Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey in 1915 were held in London April
21-24. April 21 a commemoration soiree in Ealing was attended by
Mayor Michael Elliot, member of the House of Commons Steven Pound,
representatives of the Armenian community, Poles, Albanians and
other nations residing in the district. RA Ambassador to the UK Vahe
Gabrielyan was also present at the event.
April 22 some 500 representatives of the Armenian community marched
along the London streets. They were carrying posters condemning
Turkey’s Genocide denial policy. The action participants laid wreaths
to the monument of those killed in World Wars and also conveyed a
message to UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

JAVAKHETI ARMENIANS PROTEST RUSSIAN BASES WITHDRAWAL

Armenian-inhabited Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia, the way for
an armed communication vehicle belonging to the 62nd Russian base and
demand its return to the base. “This signifies the start of withdrawal
of the military base from Javakhetia, since the communication
vehicle will secure the withdrawal of heavy defense technology,”
a source that preferred to remain anonymous said. According to it,
the Armenian population is against the withdrawal of the Russian
military, since a great number of questions have not been settled
yet, specifically the problem of security of Armenians and creation
of work places for them. It should be noted that many families lived
at the expense of the economic infrastructure formed thanks to the
presence of the Russian military in the region.
The Javakheti Armenians demand the Russian and Georgian authorities to
explain why the local inhabitants were not engaged in the negotiation
process on the withdrawal of the Russian military base. “The Georgian
leadership have kept everything in secret so far. They do not say who
will replace the Russian military and this arouses the indignation
of the Javakheti residents,” the source said, reported IA Regnum.

11 THOUSAND TURKS IN GERMANY STAND FOR ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RECOGNITION

“Union Against Genocide”, Turkish journalist Ali Ektem collected 11
thousand signatures of German Turks standing for the Armenian Genocide
recognition. The signatures were submitted to the parliaments of
Germany and other European states.
According to Ali Ektem, the main goal of his organization is the
recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey
and the Turkish society. He said the signatures were first of all
submitted to the Turkish parliament but no response has come so far.
“Hostility cannot last eternally. Turkey should resign itself to
the fact and acknowledge the Armenian Genocide. I am convinced that
the peoples residing in Turkey will also condemn and acknowledge
the reality,” Ali Ektem underscored. In his opinion, international
organizations have much to do in this view. “They should act as
mediators in the dialogue between the Turkish and Armenian nations
to liquidate the consequences of the Genocide,” Ektem considers.

LITHUANIAN PRESIDENT: KARABAKH CONFLICT MILITARY SETTLEMENT INADMISSIBLE

free and the right of territorial identity. This is a fundamental
principle,” Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, who is in Yerevan
on a formal call, stated at a meeting with the students and teaching
staff of the Yerevan State University. When commenting on the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict settlement process the Lithuanian President remarked,
“What belongs to you should be yours.” At that he said military
resolution of the conflict is inadmissible. A dialogue is essential
for the conflict settlement. I call on you to speak to each other. Via
mutual understanding and dialogue only it’s possible to find the ways
for a problem solution,” Mr. Adamkus said.
He also noted that with acquiring independence Lithuania set the
principle of correct relations as the priority principle of foreign
policy towards other states, including Russia. “Certainly we can
disagree on some issues but for the sake of the young generation
and our future we should find the way to overcome the discrepancies
available,” Valdas Adamkus stated. In his words, the Lithuanian
foreign policy will not undergo any changes and will base on mutual
trust and respect.
“Armenia should join the European community, become a full member of
this family and undertake corresponding commitments. We work together
and our goals coincide,” Mr. Adamkus said. When asked how Lithuania can
assist Armenia on the path to the European integration the president
said, “We practice such cooperation already.
Our specialists meet with Armenian counterparts and they exchange
experience. The political will for carrying out reforms in all the
sectors is essential here and the Armenian leadership possesses
this will.
We are open and ready for cooperation. We made some faults on the way
to the EU and do not want you to repeat the same mistakes,” reported

RUBEN SAFRASTYAN: THOSE WHO FALFISY HISTORY BOTHER EACH OTHER

Armenian Genocide denial seriously, head of the department of Turkey
at the RA Academy of Sciences, Doctor Ruben Safrastyan stated in
an interview with PanARMENIAN.Net. “As usual, those who falsify the
historical facts, more trouble each other then help and in this case
the fact of falsification become more obvious. Besides, one should
not forget how roughly the Azerbaijani propaganda machine works”
he remarked.
At that he said Azerbaijan would prefer to have Turkey only as the
mediator in the Karabakh problem settlement, since this state would
not spare effort to weaken the “Armenian factor” in the region.
“Fortunately, Turkey’s participation is impossible. I should also add
that assurance in “fraternal friendship” is exaggerated, since each
party has its owns interests. Simply their opinions coincide on the
“Armenian factor” in the region” he underscored.

the wrong way Armenians chose in 1915 hoping for great powers, head of
the department of Turkey at the RA Academy of Sciences, Doctor Ruben
Safrastyan stated in an interview with PanARMENIAN.Net. In his words,
the Genocide of 1915 was not the result of hopes for great powers
but was the result of thoroughly planned activities of the Ottoman
government for the annihilation of the Armenian population on their
historical homeland.
“Second, in the current situation Kurds have no alternative, since it’s
clear that the Turkish state is not ready to satisfy their demands”
he said.

CEASEFIRE VIOLATION BY AZERIS: THREE ARMENIAN SOLDIERS WOUNDED

the ceasefire. As result, an Armenian soldier Harut Manucharyan, aged
19 and called up in 2005 was wounded. Presently his health state is
satisfactory. April 25 at about 8.40 soldiers Narek Hovannisyan and
Gor Abrahamyan (both 1986 year of birth) were wounded. Their health
state is also rated as satisfactory. As RA Defense Minister’s Spokesman
Seyran Shahsuvaryan told PanARMENIAN.Net, the Armenian party did not
commence fire in response in both cases.
The reports of the Azeri media on the ceasefire violation by the
Armenian side as usual do not correspond to reality.

PRESIDENT OF IAF MAX MOUSLY ARRIVES IN YEREVAN

On May 11 a demonstration of a special trainer how to use automobile
safety belts will be held in Yerevan.
As the director of the National Council of road security Poghos
Shahinyan said the introduction of the trainer will sign the beginning
of the action aimed at increasing the social consciousness in the
necessity to fasten the belts of safety. As P. Shahinyan assures
the belt is the safest way to exceed the level of injury during
car accidents. P. Shahinyan also informed that the president of
International Automobile Federation (IAF) Max Mousli is arriving
in Yerevan on May 11. He is scheduled to meet the Governmental
representatives.
In his turn the President Armenian Automobile Federation Mkrtich
Pilotyan mentioned that the Council, that includes 5 public
organizations, intends to cooperate with state structures. At present
negotiations are held with the chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee
of Defence, National Security and Home Affairs Mher Shahgeldyan.
As the participants of the press conference think only cooperation
is not enough, the social consciousness should also be increased.
To note, according to the information of RA Police 1313 car accidents
took place in the republic in 2005 as a result of which 310 people
died and 1773 were injured. As compared with 2004 the number of cases
increased by 148 or 12.7%, the number of the injured – by 281 people,
and the number of dead – by 51 people.

The Public Organization “Defence of Consumers’ Rights” has conducted
just another monitoring. As it has been informed in the above mentioned
PO the examination has been carried out in an independent Expert Centre
(“Mava Group”). The Public Organization introduced 10 samples to the
centre 9 of which were Turkish and 1 was Iranian production.
“The labeling of all of the samples meet the requirements of the
normative documents, contain the information necessary for the consumer
yet all this is in a foreign language which is not available to the
consumers and contradicts the resolution passed by the RA Government
according to which each of the imported products has to be labeled
in Armenian,” the PO President Abgar Yeghoyan mentions. And as it
had been promised, today the organization produced the following
information about a number of products examined. Thus: “Chocolate
candy “Gofrech” Solen, Turkey – according to bacteriological indexes
doesn’t meet the requirements of the normative document.
Chocolate paste “Gikonella” SARAY, Turkey – according to
bacteriological indexes doesn’t meet the requirements of normative
document, the content of moldy fungi is higher than usual, the smell
and the taste are not typical.
Chocolate paste “Lusella” ERGUN, Turkey – according to bacteriological
indexes doesn’t meet the requirements of the normative document,
intestinal bacillus found out, the content of moldy and yeast fungi
is higher than usual.

ARMENIAN CINEMATOGRAPHERS ANNOYED

President of Cinematographers’ Union in Armenia Rouben Gevorgyants
informed Panorama.am that Armenian cinematographers are annoyed at
the fact of attack on their colleague in Moscow. As he said after the
mean attack on Michael Dovlatyan in Moscow his state can be estimated
as satisfactory. R. Gevorgyants mentioned that the information has
been provided to him by Dovlatyan himself over the telephone. “I know
that those who attacked him were drunk young people who hit him with
a bottle from his back.
Fortunately Dovlatyan seized the bottle a little thus weakening
the hit,” he said. In the meantime the artist condemns the violence
against the Armenian cinematographer in Moscow in these days when
days of Armenia are being held in Russia.
To remind, on April 23 the secretary of Armenian Cinematographers’
Union Michel Dovlatyan was attacked and hurt with a bottle at the
head in Moscow.
