POLICE `CLEAN’ YOUTH CENTER IN AKHALKALAK OF SCOUTS
At around 7 pm on November 8, 10-13 policemen of
Akhalkalak’s regional police armed with firearms and
bludgeons burst into “Kechi” building and forced out
the teenage members of Javakhk’s scout movement
demanding the keys and documents of the building.
Javakhk-Info reports that the scouts went out of the
building and locked the doors but did not hand the
keys to the police.
The building that formerly belonged to the 62d Russian
military base was handed to Georgian military police
despite the population’s protest. But soon after the
military police was ousted, and it was transformed
into a youth center. The scout movement of Javakhk is
officially registered in the republic and has been
functioning for 5 years now but their requests for an
office were not replied to and they held their
trainings at the youth center.
It must be noted that the scout movement of Javakhk is
an organization affiliated to the “United Javakhk”
sports and culture youth union.
Will the only school of Samtskhe-Javakhk’s Adigeni
region close?
The only Armenian school functioning in Abastuman
settlement of Adigeni region of Samtskhe-Javakhk,
Georgia, to close down. Due to financial shortage the
school is unable to keep afloat all grades from 1 to
4. The Armenian school of the region has more than 40
pupils, but the headmaster of the school, Teymuraz
Minadze, has forbidden all pupils from 1 to 4 grades
to attend the school, A-Info agency reports. According
to the agency, there are schools in Samtskhe-Javakhk
regions with even fewer pupils but no issue of closing
them down was raised.

TURKS CARRY OUT ANTI-ARMENIAN ACTIONS IN MILAN
On November 5, after the recent events in France,
another anti-Armenian manifestation was held at a
theatre in Milan where an exhibition on the Armenian
Genocide was displayed. Jean Eskian from Paris
informed that a young Turk Nouri Bastug rushed into
the exhibition hall and uttering curses in Turkish,
began smashing the exhibited pictures and the books on
the Armenian Genocide. The Turk received Italian
citizenship only a year ago. The police acted swiftly
and the Turk was soon arrested. Pietro Kouchikian,
organizer of the exhibition, stated that he doesn’t
know whether the Turk acted on his own or was a member
of a group.

`THE SOUTH CAUCASUS THROUGH YOUNG PEOPLE’S EYES’
In late October regional exhibition “The South
Caucasus Through Young People’s Eyes” with the
participation of Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan was
held in Georgia.
A selection stage was held on September 29 at the
“Moscow” cinema and 15 best pieces of young artist
from Gegharkuniq, Ararat, Shirak, Armavir and Kotayk
regions as well as Yerevan were chosen to be displayed
at the exhibition.
Through their pieces the participants expressed their
ideas of friendship, the present and the future. By
the end of the exhibition in Tbilisi all works were
published in a booklet.

EDITORS OF FIVE AZERI NEWSPAPERS GO ON HUNGER STRIKE
On November 8, editors of five Baku based opposition
newspapers went on a hunger strike in support to
“Azatlig” newspaper. The Azeri mass media inform that
the hunger strike is directed against the state
property management commission that applied to the
court for depriving “Azatlig” newspaper (the
periodical of Popular Front Party) of the office it
used to occupy.
According to the statement of the editors, the
decision to deprive the newspaper of its office is of
no economic but political importance. It’s worth
mentioning that at present, not only “Azatlig,” but
also a number of the newspapers and ANS TV have
problems with the Azeri authorities.

HAYPOST FREED OF PROFIT TAX
In the course of yesterday’ government sitting, RA
Government adopted the decision to hand the
plenipotentiaries of managing the shares of HayPost
company to the state property management committee.
Earlier, RA Transport and Communication Ministry
carried out the management of HayPost shares. The
decision was directed to secure the effective
functioning of the company.
According to another government decision, HayPost was
freed of paying profit tax since January 1st, 2006.

ARMENIAN AND TURKISH BUSINESSMEN TO MEET IN ISTANBUL
On November 27, the first congress of the Union of
Black Sea and Caspian Confederation of Enterprises
(UBSCCE) led by Turkish businessmen will take place in
Istanbul. According to Turkish Daily News, as members
of the Confederation, the Armenian Union of
Manufacturers and Businessmen was also invited.

ARMENIAN-ARAB RELATIONS LESS IMPORTANT?
Editor of Zartonk Asks
In an article titled “Time to Sober Up”
editor-in-chief of Lebanon-based Zartonk newspaper,
Paruyr Aghbashian, voices concern over groundless
excuses of Armenian authorities to provide a site for
a monument symbolizing Armenian-Arab friendship. The
author reminds that Syria’s Armenian community
suggested erecting such a monument a few years ago.
Then, the authorities provided a site and financial
means. But soon after the site was changed and until
today no new site was provided.
On October 27, a memorial dedicated to the Armenian
Genocide and Holocaust was unveiled on the crossroad
of Terian-Miskovian streets, writes the editor and
reminds of the presence of big, important and
influential Armenian communities. He poses a question:
why the issue is not solved so far, why are the
authorities continually finding excuses? “Isn’t this a
national offence in the end, a matter of dignity? The
Armenian people is proud of preserving decent and
honest Armenian-Arab relations but the monument issue
still remains shelved,” Paruyr Aghbashian rounds off
saying that time to sober up has not passed yet.

FEAST OF GREAT MUSIC HELD ALMOST UNNOTICED
On November 3, a significant concert of modern classic
music was held in Yerevan. The concert was dedicated
to the 85th anniversary of Armenian composer Eduard
Mirzoyan. The concert was interesting for two reasons:
firstly, for its conductor Murad Annamamedov, head of
the Philharmonic Orchestra of Yaroslavl, secondly, two
pieces by Eduard Mirzoyan and his great student Avet
Terterian were performed. Annamamedov performed the
famous Symphony by Mirzoyan and one of the unknown
pieces by Terterian.
Murad Annamamedov is one of those musicians who are
devoted to the Armenian art and carry out its
propaganda abroad. In the beginning of the concert, he
heartily greeted our people and country. At the end of
the concert, in response to “bravos” addressed to him,
Annamamedov suddenly turned to the audience and said:
“Let’s preserve this treasure. They represent the
Armenian culture in the world,” pointing out our
Philharmonic Orchestra.
At the same time, unfortunately, the premiere of Avet
Terterian’s piece was not properly welcomed. The
concert hall was half empty. Moreover, none of the TV
channels or the newspapers highlighted the event or
made an interview with Murad Annamamedov. Something is
strange in Armenia. We all are guilty that the
large-scale audience didn’t pull in for such an
events.
After the concert, when congratulating the conductor,
another Armenian classical musician Aleksander
Harutyunian approached Annamamedov to congratulate and
thank him for brilliant performance of the pieces.
When Annamamedov learnt who was congratulating him, he
knelt before of Harutyunian.

NEW AMBASSADOR TO CZECH REPUBLIC

RA Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to
Czech Republic Ashot Hovakimyan handed his credentials
to President Vaclav Klaus.
During the meeting of the President and the Ambassador
the sides highly appreciated the friendship between
the two countries and their people. Nevertheless, they
stated that there is still much to do in order to
stimulate cooperation in political, economic and
cultural fields.
The sides also referred to the cooperation within the
framework of the Individual partnership action plan of
the EU New neighborhood program.
At the end of the meeting President Klaus sent best
regards to his Armenian colleague and wished the newly
appointed Ambassador good luck in the fulfillment of
his diplomatic mission.

TIME WILL COME, AND DALLAQYAN WILL MAKE UP HIS MIND

`When the most important moment comes, I will decide
how to participate in the 2007 Parliamentary
elections’, today in `Pastark’ club NA deputy Viktor
Dallaqyan neither confirmed nor refuted the
information about his participation in the elections
as member of `Prosperous Armenia’. Instead, he
referred to the possible developments of the inner
political situation in Armenia.
According to him, the 2007 Parliamentary elections,
the confrontations inside the authorities, the
Karabakh conflict, the end of the office of Robert
Kocharyan, as well as other issues can affect the
inner political situation in Armenia. In Contrast to
2003, this time the Presidential elections will follow
the Parliamentary ones. `Those political powers which
will be dominating after the Parliamentary elections
will influence the Presidential elections’, Mr.
Dallaqyan mentioned.
Although the deputy thinks that during the past 15
years Armenia suffered from the problem of fabricated
elections, this time there is a chance to organize
free and fair elections in 2007. According to him, we
must put an end to the slogan of Nicaraguan despot
Samosa, `You won during the elections, I won while
calculating the votes’.
In the organization of free and fair elections Mr.
Dallaqyan found the order of formation of the
electoral committees important. `The electoral
committees must consist of equal numbers of
representatives of the authorities and the
opposition’.
As for the 2008 budget which according to the Prime
Minister is just wonderful, Viktor Dallaqyan thinks it
is another `survival budget’.
Dallaqyan drew parallels between the budgets of
Armenia and Azerbaijan and drew a sad conclusion, `The
settlement of the Karabakh conflict has been taken to
the economic field. The country which has stronger
economy will be dominating while settling the
conflict’.
In order to show the gap between the economic
development of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Viktor
Dallaqyan enumerated, `In 2003-2007 the budget of
Azerbaijan rose 8 times, whereas that of Armenia –
four times. During the last nine months the economic
growth of Azerbaijan was 34%, whereas that of Armenia-
12.5%. Besides, the state budget of Azerbaijan allots
1 billion USD to the defense of the country, whereas
that of Armenia – only 263 million USD’.
