YEREVAN, APRIL 7, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan and the U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary for Global Markets Arun Venkataraman co-chaired the meeting of the Working Group of Economy and Energy as part of the Armenia-U.S. Strategic Dialogue in Yerevan, the foreign ministry said in a press release.

Government officials from the Armenian foreign ministry, territorial administration and infrastructures ministry, high-tech industry ministry, as well as American government officials from the Department of Trade and the State Department participated in the meeting.

In his remarks, Deputy FM Hovhannisyan praised the Armenia-U.S. partnership anchored on common democratic values, human rights and the rule of law. Furthering the Armenian-American partnership aimed at promoting common welfare and ensuring stability and peace in the region was highlighted.

The opportunities for deepening cooperation in trade, investments, energy and high technologies, improvement of the business environment and implementation of joint programs were discussed. The sides outlined the priorities of upcoming work and planned actions.

YEREVAN, APRIL 7, ARMENPRESS. U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary for Global Markets Arun Venkataraman has arrived in Armenia, the US Embassy reported.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan will hold a meeting with Assistant Secretary Venkataraman, according to the embassy.

“During his April 6-8 visit, Assistant Secretary Venkataraman will meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and give opening remarks at the U.S.-Armenia Strategic Dialogue, during which he will underscore the United States’ interest in deepening commercial ties and promoting commercial partnerships between both countries, particularly in the energy sector,” the US embassy said in a statement.

ICRC facilitates transfer of 12 patients from blockaded Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia

YEREVAN, APRIL 7, ARMENPRESS. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) facilitated the transfer of 12 seriously ill patients from blockaded Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia for treatment, the Nagorno Karabakh Ministry of Healthcare reported Friday.

“Due to the blocking by Azerbaijan of the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia, 12 patients from the Republican Medical Center the Republic of Artsakh with serious diseases of the oncology and cardiovascular system have been transported today, to specialized medical institutions of the Republic of Armenia with the mediation and escort of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

9 patients, who had been transferred to Armenia for medical treatment, returned to Artsakh together with an accompanying persons.

Scheduled surgeries continue to be suspended in the medical centers of the Republic of Artsakh.

7 children remain in the neonatal and intensive care units of the Arevik medical centre.
9 patients remain in the intensive care unit of the Republican Medical Centre, 3 of them in critical condition.

A total of 276 patients have been transported so far from Artsakh to Armenia with the mediation and support of the International Committee of the Red Cross,” the ministry said in a statement.

Security Council Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary discuss prospects of cooperation

YEREVAN, APRIL 7, ARMENPRESS. Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan on April 7 held a meeting with the delegation led by U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary for Global Markets Arun Venkataraman.

The sides discussed the prospects and opportunities of cooperation in Armenian-American investments, improvement of business environment and the areas of high technologies and energy, and also touched upon the implementation of joint programs by outlining the further directions of cooperation, Grigoryan's office said in a press release.

The importance of further strengthening the Armenian-American economic cooperation was highlighted.

PM Pashinyan holds phone call with Putin

YEREVAN, APRIL 7, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Nagorno Karabakh resulting from the illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan.

In the context of overcoming the crisis in Nagorno Karabakh, PM Pashinyan attached importance to the implementation of consistent steps by the Russian peacekeeping mission, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.

Issues related to the implementation of the 9 November 2020, 11 January and 26 November 2021 and 31 October 2022 Armenia-Russia-Azerbaijan trilateral statements – including the unblocking of regional transport connections – were also discussed.

Pashinyan and Putin also exchanged views on the Armenian-Russian relations and other developments, the PMO reported.

Glovo presented its journey to launch a successful startup

YEREVAN, APRIL 7, ARMENPRESS. On March 29, the Commercial and Economic Department of the Embassy of Spain organized an informational event for Armenian startups. GlovoApp was presented as a successful example of launching a startup in Spain.

The event aimed at showcasing the success of Spanish startup companies and encourage international investment in Spain. The speakers shared their experiences and knowledge in promoting the growth of the startup ecosystem.

The event started with presenting the "Rising Up in Spain" project. Pablo Martinez, Economic and Commercial Officer of the Embassy of Spain, shared the best opportunities for Armenian startups to join the program and implement their ideas. 
GlovoApp is a perfect example of a successful startup rapidly grown into an international company. Now Glovo is present in 25 countries, including Armenia, where the company has significantly impacted the local economy. Glovo creates innovative solutions connecting customers and businesses, while enabling the sustainable development of communities and ecosystems.
Oleh Horoschak, director of GlovoApp in Armenia, presented the company's success story in his speech. He talked about the challenges that GlovoApp faced and shared Glovo's experience of solving them. Oleh Horoschak also emphasized the importance of understanding the local market and adapting to the local culture. "We started working in Armenia with 20 couriers. Today the number of couriers is more than 300. We have more than 800 partners; we are present in 3 cities. But it's not only about that. We are extremely proud of the work we do: we are making people's lives faster, we are creating pretty good work opportunities for our couriers, and we ensure good cooperation with our partners". We plan to continue Glovo's expansion and bring its services to more countries," Oleh Horoshchak summarized his speech.

Among the main speakers were also Ms. Sati Boyajyan, Director of IE for Central and Eastern Europe, and Luz Ruiz, Regional Fellow of IESE for the CIS countries. They spoke about the support programs offered for startups.
The meeting was an excellent opportunity for Glovo to showcase its success and share its experience with other entrepreneurs and investors. Glovo's participation in the event also highlighted the importance of international collaboration and investment in the startup ecosystem.

PM Pashinyan welcomed the U.S. delegation’s visit and emphasized the importance of expanding the active dialogue around the Armenia-U.S. Strategic Dialogue agenda and implementation of joint programs, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.

The Armenian Prime Minister said that the bilateral relations are dynamically developing and called for implementing steps for consistently deepening economic partnership.

U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary for Global Markets Arun Venkataraman said that the meeting of the Armenia-U.S. Strategic Dialogue in Yerevan was productive and emphasized the United States’ interest to deepen commercial ties with Armenia and promote partnership in various areas, including in energy.

YEREVAN, APRIL 7, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Chief of Staff of the US Army Europe and Africa Operations Directorate Brigadier General Patrick Ellis visited Armenia April 5-7, the U.S. Embassy said in a statement.

“During his working visit to Armenia April 5-7, Brigadier General Patrick Ellis met with Ministry of Defense officials to discuss efforts to strengthen U.S.-Armenian defense cooperation. Brigadier General Ellis also visited the 12th Peacekeeping Brigade’s training facility in Zar and the Armenian military academy,” the embassy said.

SRC chief meets U.S. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation

YEREVAN, APRIL 8, ARMENPRESS. The Chairman of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia Rustam Badasyan held a meeting with Ann K. Ganzer, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation at the United States Department of State. 

The heads of the US Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS) and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs also attended the meeting.

Badasyan welcomed the delegation and presented the main directions of tax and customs cooperation with US partners, the State Revenue Committee said in a press release.

In the context of the comprehensive reforms of the system, Badasyan presented the key provisions outlined with other international partners in the tax and customs areas.

Rustam Badasyan presented the agreements he reached during his December 2022 visit to the United States, as well as the course of implementation.

The need for deploying modern equipment for customs control and drug detection in the SRC customs checkpoints as part of the EXBS program was emphasized. A number of issues aimed at modernizing the risks system in the customs area were also discussed.

Badasyan’s deputy Tsovinar Soghomonyan presented the results of the training courses of customs officers in context of the customs reforms.

Ann K. Ganzer highly appreciated the productive working relations between the sides and the joint efforts for strengthening the Armenian-American bilateral relations.

Armenpress: Government plans to achieve 6% foreign direct investment-GDP ratio in 2026

YEREVAN, APRIL 8, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian government’s goal is to reach 6% of the foreign direct investments – GDP ratio in 2026, the Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said Saturday.

“In 2022, foreign direct investments in the Armenian economy totaled 998,1 million dollars, comprising 5,12% of the GDP. In 2021 this figure stood at 366,4 million dollars or around 2,5% of the GDP. The government’s goal is to bring the foreign direct investments – GDP ratio up to 6% in 2026,” Kerobyan said on social media.
