Cyprus establishes state agency aimed at preserving Armenian cultural heritage

A motion for the establishment of a Sub-Ministry of Culture was recently passed unanimously by the parliament of Cyprus. Vartkes Mahdessian, an Armenian member of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, informed about this on Facebook.

“The establishment of the new department concerns the promotion and preservation of the cultural heritage of the communities and the religious groups of Maronites, Armenians and Latins.

On behalf of the Armenian Community, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to my parliamentary colleagues for their ongoing support and solidarity,” Mahdessian added.

Rally participants carry large Karabakh flag in central Yerevan

Protesters, who organized a rally in Freedom Square on Tuesday, headed to France Square, which connects the three main avenues of the capital.

They were carrying a large flag of the Nagorno-Karabakh, stating that they would block the traffic on the aforementioned section. The protesters plan to stand there for an hour.

Artur Davtyan and Vahagn Davtyan win World Cup

Armenia’s leading gymnasts Artur Davtyan and Vahagn Davtyan won the World Cup.

The International Gymnastics Federation announced the results of the World Cup.

Artur Davtyan took the first place in the men’s vault with 90 points. He was 10 points ahead of Ukraine’s Nazar Chepurnyi, who came in second.

Vahagn Davtyan took first place in rings exercise with 85 points. The Turkish athlete Ibrahim Colak took the second place with 80 points, the third was Armenian athlete Artur Avetisyan with 53 points.

Armenian military denies Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s accusations on opening fire

YEREVAN, APRIL 4, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian military denies the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s accusations on opening fire in the evening of April 3.

“The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s statement claiming that the Armenian Armed Forces shelled the Azerbaijani positions in the north-eastern border zone of the Republic of Armenia in the evening of April 3 is false,” the Armenian Defense Ministry said.

The Armenian side did not open fire, it stressed.

The Defense Ministry added that the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is relatively stable and is under the full control of the Armenian Armed Forces.

YEREVAN, APRIL 4, ARMENPRESS. It’s already the 10th day the surrounding of the Armenian village of Parukh in Artsakh is illegally occupied by Azerbaijan, journalist Jean-Christophe Buisson, who is the deputy director of the French La Figaro Magazine, said on Twitter.

“Hundreds of villagers, including children, still live far from home. But the Azerbaijani army is not withdrawing its forces. Moreover, it strengthens its positions”, the journalist said.

Member of the Senate of France, vice-chair of the France-Armenia friendship group Valérie Boyer shared the post of journalist Jean-Christophe Buisson on Twitter and reminded that during the 2020 large-scale aggression Azerbaijan, with the support of Turkey, massacred the Armenians of Artsakh through Turkish bombs, white phosphorus and drones.

“The genocidal spirit has awakened in them. And the world is silently watching without doing anything. Encroachments continue in an atmosphere of indifference”, Valérie Boyer said.

First President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan meets with Russian Ambassador

YEREVAN, APRIL 4, ARMENPRESS. First President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan held a meeting with the Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin.

Ter-Petrosyan’s spokesperson Arman Musinyan said in a statement that the meeting took place at the first president’s home and “on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Russia”.

“The conversation proceeded around the prospects of development of the Armenian-Russian relations,” Musinyan added.

Armenian FM, UK parliamentarians discuss situation in Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone

YEREVAN, APRIL 4, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received today the delegation led by Head of the Great Britain-Armenia Friendship Group of UK Parliament Tim Loughton, the foreign ministry said in a news release.

The meeting sides highlighted the further deepening and strengthening of the relations between Armenia and the United Kingdom, emphasizing here the role of the parliamentary diplomacy.

The meeting touched upon the process of ongoing reforms in Armenia. In this context the British parliamentarians highly appreciated the democratic progress made by Armenia. Ararat Mirzoyan reaffirmed the commitment of the Armenian government to continue the process of strengthening democracy, rule of law, protecting human rights and fighting against corruption, and in this context valued the support of the United Kingdom.

The sides also discussed the current situation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone and the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. Minister Mirzoyan presented in details the actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces on infiltrating into the village of Parukh in Nagorno Karabakh, targeting the civilian population and infrastructure, creating a humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, as well as the issues connected with the preservation of Armenian cultural and religious heritage in the territories that have come under the control of Azerbaijan.

The Armenian FM highlighted the efforts of the British parliamentarians aimed at condemning the human rights violations made by Azerbaijani troops during the 2020 war, the recent aggressive actions of Azerbaijan in the border with Armenia and in Nagorno Karabakh, as well as supporting the protection of rights of the people of Nagorno Karabakh.

The meeting sides touched upon the negotiations around a comprehensive peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Armenian FM highlighted the importance of starting negotiations within the frames of the OSCE Minsk Group, aimed at the final comprehensive settlement, including the clarification of the status of Nagorno Karabakh.

At the request of the guests, FM Mirzoyan also presented the Armenia-Turkey normalization process.

YEREVAN, APRIL 4, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received the delegation led by Tim Loughton, the head of the Great Britain -Armenia Friendship Group of the UK Parliament, ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister attached importance to the visit of the delegation to Armenia, expressing hope that it will give a new impetus to the further development of the Armenian-British relations, including in the inter-parliamentary sphere. Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Armenian government is interested in expanding cooperation with Great Britain in political, economic, cultural and other directions.

Tim Loughton expressed confidence that the cooperation at the parliamentary level will continue to further strengthen, and they will make every effort to contribute to the deepening of bilateral political and economic ties. He stressed the importance of the democratic reforms in our country and expressed confidence that their effective implementation will contribute to the further progress of Armenia.

The situation in the South Caucasus, in particular, around Nagorno Karabakh was touched upon.

Prime Minister Pashinyan presented his observations on the processes taking place around Nagorno Karabakh, stressed the importance of an adequate response of the international community to the un-constructive actions carried out by Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister touched upon the humanitarian issues arising from the Azerbaijani actions in Artsakh, the steps taken to destroy the Armenian cultural heritage in the territories that have passed under the control of the Azerbaijani armed forces, the opportunities for demarcation and delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, unblocking of the regional infrastructure, as well as the Armenian-Turkish dialogue.
