Iran plans to increase export volumes to Armenia up to $1 bln

YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. Iran’s export to Armenia has increased by 37% compared to the same period of the previous year, Ambassador of Iran to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri said, IRNA reports. 

During the meeting with the trade delegation of Zanjan province, the Ambassador called Armenia a secure and reliable communication bridge for establishing trade relations with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union (EU).

He said that Armenia’s privileged tariff for export of 6000, 7000 goods to the EAEU states will enable Iranian businessmen to be present in these markets. 

Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri informed that several important projects are on the inter-state agenda of Iran and Armenia. “As of now, the export volume from Iran to Armenia has reached 560 million dollars, and we plan to increase it up to 1 billion dollars”, the Ambassador added.




Armenian PM sends congratulatory letter to Kazakhstan’s President

YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan sent a congratulatory letter to President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the PM’s Office said. 

The letter reads:

“Dear Mr. President, 

Accept my sincere congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

This significant period in the centuries-old history of the friendship between the peoples of our countries has become a starting point for building qualitatively new inter-state relations, in the frames of which all conditions and mechanisms have been created aimed at ensuring the promotion of the bilateral partnership both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

I am convinced that the active dialogue at the highest level, the ongoing joint consistent activities within parliaments and intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, the intensification of cultural and humanitarian contacts will, undoubtedly, open new horizons for exercising the potential of the Armenian-Kazakh relations. This is in the interests of strengthening the friendship between our peoples, in the mutual interest of establishing regional stability and security.

A respective statement will be released over the results of the upcoming meeting of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and President of the European Council Charles Michel scheduled in Brussels on August 31, the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia told Armenpress, commenting on the statement of Hikmet Hajiyev, the assistant to the Azerbaijani president, who said that the issue of creating a group that will prepare the text of the peace agreement is expected to be agreed upon during the upcoming Brussels meeting.

“A respective statement about the results of the meeting will be released which will provide comprehensive information about the topics that were discussed”, Pashinyan’s Office said.

Japan pledges $30 billion in aid to Africa

YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. Japan pledged $30 billion in aid for development in Africa on Saturday, saying it wants to work more closely with the continent, Reuters reports.

Addressing a Japan-Africa summit in Tunisia, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Tokyo would work to ensure grain shipments to Africa amid a global shortage.

Kishida said the $30 billion would be delivered over three years.

The Japanese PM participated in the summit online because of testing positive for COVID-19.

French, US ambassadors ignore Azerbaijani government’s invitation to visit Shushi

YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. The Ambassadors of France and the United States to Azerbaijan have ignored the invitation of the Azerbaijani government to visit Shushi, Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the president of Azerbaijan, said, the Azerbaijani media report.

“Today the Ambassadors of France and the United States are not in Shushi. They have demonstratively ignored the invitation of the Azerbaijani government”, he said.

Earlier the Azerbaijani and Turkish media reported that members of around 70 embassies accredited in Azerbaijan and Turkey visited Varanda and Shushi which have come under the Azerbaijani control as a result of the 2020 Artsakh War.

Vayots Dzor Governor, Chinese Ambassador discuss possibility of creating center for teaching Chinese in province

YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. Governor of Vayots Dzor Ararat Grigoryan received on August 26 Ambassador of China to Armenia Fan Yong, the Office of the Governor said. 

During the meeting Governor Grigoryan said that Vayots Dzor province has always highly appreciated the inter-state relations that have good traditions of mutual partnership between the two friendly peoples, trying to contribute to strengthening this friendship within the frames of decentralized cooperation. 

In his remarks the Chinese Ambassador said that all basis of cooperation have been created thanks to the productive diplomatic relations of 30 years, and with joint efforts it will be possible to achieve the implementation of the goals set before the sides.

The priority directions of the province’s economy, the current economic situation and development trends with the focus on winemaking and tourism sectors were presented at the meeting. The sides also considered the possibility of creating a center of teaching Chinese in the province.

The guests visited Areni wine factory to get acquainted with the rich history of winemaking. They also visited the Bird Cave where they were introduced on the world’s ancient winemaking complex.

The Chinese delegation also visited Noravank monastery. 

At the end of the meeting both sides expressed confidence that they will manage to further strengthen the friendly ties between Armenia and China for the welfare of the two nations.
