PM Pashinyan chairs meeting on draft state medium-term expenditure program

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and was attended by members of the Cabinet and members of the Parliament, the PM’s Office said, adding that they will later release a statement about the details of the discussion.

Yerevan City Hall allocates funds for development of construction plan of new subway station

YEREVAN, MAY 24, ARMENPRESS. Yerevan City Hall will allocate 554 million drams from the city budget for the development of the construction plan of the new subway station in Ajapnyak district.

The decision was approved at the City Council session.

First Vice Mayor of Yerevan Levon Hovhannisyan said this allocation concerns the first stage of funding of the construction planning work.

750 million drams from the 850 million drams of the recovered damages that the Parking City Service company had inflicted will be allocated for the planning works.

Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan had said that building the new station will cost 50 million dollars.

Parliament debates introducing One-Window services at border crossing points

YEREVAN, MAY 24, ARMENPRESS. Parliament debated the government-authored bill on introducing the “One Window” principle in border crossing points.

If adopted, border control at the border crossing points will be implemented only by 2 government agencies instead of the currently active 4 – the National Security Service Border Guards and the Customs Bodies.

The functions carried out by the previously active agencies will be assumed by the NSS and the Customs Bodies accordingly.

The government says the bill is aimed at simplifying and facilitating the processes for businesses.

Businessmen will approach a single window at the border crossing point.

YEREVAN, MAY 24, ARMENPRESS. Ukraine’s Yelmir Nabiiev won over Armenia’s Janik Sahakyan in the Bantamweight division preliminaries at the EUBC Men’s European Boxing Championships in Yerevan.

In the Session 2 B preliminaries, Armenia’s Narek Zakharyan will fight against Slovakia’s Michal Takacs in the Light Middleweight division.

At 18:00, Armenia’s light heavyweight Hambardzum Hakobyan will compete against Dmitri Cosciug of Moldova in the Session 3 A preliminaries.

YEREVAN, MAY 24, ARMENPRESS. In 2022 from May 23rd to May 30th, Huawei Armenia hosts its 2nd season of Seeds for the Future Program.

In collaboration with Yerevan State University and Yerevan National Polytechnics University in selection process, 20 outstanding students were selected. The speech for the opening ceremony on May 20th was held by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of The Peoples Republic of China in Armenia Mr. Fan Yong, as well as Mr. Narek Teryan, the Deputy Minister of Economy of RA, Mrs. Eliz Gevorgyan, Head of European Union and International Organizations Division, Ministry of High-Tech Industry of RA and the General Manager of Huawei Technologies Armenia, Mr. Chen Liang.

Mr. Fan Yong greeted the students addressed his speech to them:

“I am very glad to be present at the online opening ceremony of the “Seeds for the Future” hosted by Huawei Armenia. China and Armenia are both ancient and civilized countries and the friendship between these countries lasts for already 2000 years and up to know. On April the 6th the both of our countries have celebrated the 30th anniversary of the of the diplomatic relationship.”

Mr. Fan mentioned that in spite of the Covid 19, during the past 2 years the trade volume has grown positively and he is very confident that with the joint efforts the both countries will continuously deepen the construction of one built one road collaborative and bring this potential onto more reality, into the brighter future.

“The world is changing rapidly and the digital development is very important for nowadays. President of Armenia, Mr. Khachatryan, while visiting the Chinses embassy to celebrate the 30th anniversary, mentioned that Armenia attaches great importance to the development of ICT industries and wants to learn from China and strengthen the cooperation with China and take the talents in advantages of Armenia in ICT industry”.

Mr. Fan noted that as the most advanced and powerful industry in China and the world, Huawei proposes the 2nd time the Seeds for the Future program in Armenia to help the young students with the advantages in high-tech industries for their future development.

“I want to thank Huawei for organizing this event as well as special thanks to the Ministry of Economy and Ministry High-Tech Industry for the support to the young students”, concluded by Mr. Fan Yong.

Mr. Narek Teryan welcomed the students and thanked Huawei Technologies Armenia for hosting the Seeds for the Future program for the 2nd season in 2022.

“I believe the program will bring a great opportunity for the talented Armenian students to strengthen their knowledge and skills in 5G, Clouds and IT fields. On one hand, this experience will emphasize the importance of friendly relations between Armenia and China and on the other hand it will support Armenian digital development as the program is a great platform for communication and information exchange with the cutting-edge technologies.”

Mr. Teryan wished good luck to all the students participating in the program and wished to see their outcoming in the coming future.

A welcome and motivation speech was held by the Head of European Union and International Organizations Division, Ministry of High-Tech Industry of RA, Ms. Eliz Gevorgyan.

She welcomed the participants of the program and thanked the organizers of the event for giving the Armenian students an opportunity to participate in such a useful training.

“This program has great potential to enhance participants’ theoretical knowledge of high technology capability and improve their leadership skills. It is also a unique bridge for intercultural communication between Armenia and China.

It is very important to ensure the continuity of technological education of young people, given that education is the key to the development of innovative ideas and the implementation of revolutionary initiatives.”

In conclusion, Ms. Gevorgyan thanked once again and wished good luck to all the participants in the upcoming 8 days’ online training

Ambassador discusses prospects of operating direct flights to Armenia with Japan Airlines representatives

The meeting focused on the prospects of operation of direct flights from Japan to Armenia after the pandemic, over which the Armenian Ambassador presented the attractiveness of this direction, also in the context of the possibilities of operating transit flights via Armenia to Europe and other regions.

Parliament Speaker receives Multiple Arm Wrestling World and European Champion Ashot Adamyan

YEREVAN, MAY 24, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Alen Simonyan received today the Multiple World and European Arm Wrestling Champion, Master of Sports of International Class Ashot Adamyan by his request, the Parliament’s press service said.

Congratulating Ashot Adamyan for not giving up anybody the champion title for many years, Alen Simonyan was interested in the athlete’s last European Arm Wrestling Championship held in Bucharest on May 14, when the episode of standing of the Azerbaijani athlete, who was the third, on his feet, trying to appear tall and cast shadow the winner of the European Championship Ashot Adamyan.

The Master of Sports informed the Speaker that at that moment he did not notice that athlete’s behavior being obsessed with our hymn and victory. As Ashot has presented, during the competition the Turkish and the Azerbaijani competitors tried to put psychological pressure on him, but they did not succeed deviating him, as the Champion noticed jokingly that he simply did not understand the competitors’ language. The athlete also noted that during his sport career he competed in 60-kg category, and it was for the first time when he competed in 65-kg weight. To Simonyan’s remark whether this is final weight, the young athlete answered that everything is ahead, adding with smile that he did not want to gain weight.

Alen Simonyan was interested in the perspectives of the sport, once again congratulating Ashot Adamyan for registering significant success and handed him a souvenir.

Armenia and Holy See exchange messages on 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan and Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See’s Secretariat of State, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher exchanged messages today on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and the Holy See, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In his message Ararat Mirzoyan, highlighting the relations as based on mutual trust, respect, effective dialogue, the same Christian value system and ancient historic ties, expressed readiness to continue the joint efforts for the fulfillment of the international and regional agenda of stable peace and sustainable development, as well as the peaceful coexistence. He also expressed gratitude for proclaiming St. Gregory of Narek the Doctor of the Universal Church, as well as for the Pope’s principled position on the Armenian Genocide.

In his turn Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher said the recent opening of the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See in Yerevan is an important evidence of the development of the relations between the Holy See and Armenia in different areas with friendly and sincere spirit.

Remembering the bilateral high-ranking visits, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher added that the Holy See plans to further strengthen the cooperation with Armenia, particularly for promoting the moral values, justice and peace.

Former IBF, WBA, WBC flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan praises high level organization of EUBC Yerevan amateur championship

YEREVAN, MAY 24, ARMENPRESS. Retired boxer Vakhtang “Vic” Darchinyan praised the high-level organization of the EUBC Men’s Amateur European Boxing Championships in Yerevan.

Darchinyan, who held multiple professional boxing world championships in two weight classes , including the IBF flyweight title from 2004 to 2007; and the WBA (Undisputed, later Unified), WBC, IBF, and lineal super-flyweight titles, is in Yerevan and is watching the championship.

“This European boxing championship is very well organized. You’d be convinced if you’ve seen the opening ceremony,” Darchinyan told reporters. “Representatives of many European countries are here today, and everyone sees the high-level organization.”
