Artsakh FM visits South Ossetia for inauguration of President Gagloyev

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. (Press Release, Artsakh MFA) On May 23-25, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh David Babayan paid a working visit to the Republic of South Ossetia to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the Republic, Alan Gagloyev.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Foreign Minister of Artsakh read out the congratulatory address of the President of the Republic of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunian.

During the visit, Minister Babayan was received by newly elected President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloyev. The Minister had also a meeting with Acting Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoyev. A wide range of issues related to the Artsakh-South Ossetia relations and regional processes were discussed at the meetings. The sides noted the importance of consistent development and deepening of relations, expansion of cooperation between different state and public structures.

Within the framework of the visit, David Babayan delivered a lecture at the South Ossetian State University He briefed on the origin of the Azerbaijani-Karabagh conflict and the current realities, as well as touched upon the centuries-old Armenian-Ossetian ties. At the end of the lecture, the Foreign Minister answered the questions of the University’s lecturers and students.

During the visit, the Foreign Minister also met with representatives of the Armenian community of the Republic of South Ossetia. Minister Babayan noted the importance of strengthening the Homeland-Diaspora ties, as well as highly appreciated the special attitude of the South Ossetian authorities towards the Armenian community of the country, proudly stressing that the local Armenians manage not only to maintain their national identity and connection with the historical homeland, but also to be exemplary and patriotic citizens of South Ossetia.

Chief of Staff of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Artsakh Semyon Afiyan accompanied the Minister during the visit.

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. The first ever Armenian satellite was launched into the Earth’s orbit, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced at the Cabinet meeting.

“On May 25, 2022, at 22:35 Yerevan time, Armenia’s first space satellite was launched into the Earth’s orbit on a SpaceX rocket from Cape Canaveral in the United States,” Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan added that the satellite was launched into space as a result of cooperation between the Armenian state Geocosmos company and the Spanish Satlantis.

“We can’t overestimate the significance of this, with this Armenia is embarking into the era of space activities and we hope that our rich traditions in this area will be restored. I am speaking about the space scientific-production area which existed in Armenia for many years. In this context I’d like to stress that one of our priorities is the localization of space technologies in Armenia, as well as organizing the production of space equipment,” Pashinyan said.

The Armenian satellite, which was launched into the orbit from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States, on board the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, is an Earth Observation Satellite.

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. Armenia will have a satellite control center and downlink facility by 2023, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the Cabinet meeting.

He said that it is planned that the downlink facility will render data receiving and transmission services for other satellite operators.

Moroever, the images made by the Armenian satellite will be used for various purposes, such as border surveillance. “The images made by the satellite will be used in Armenia for border control, prevention and management of emergency situations, preservation of the environment, including monitoring of climate change, urban development, road construction, geology and other areas,” Pashinyan said.

The first ever Armenian satellite was launched into the Earth’s orbit.

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a meeting with United States Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy.

During the meeting the Prime Minister underscored the intensification of the Armenia-United States cooperation and strategic dialogue and attached importance to the clear position of the United States as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing country in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement issue, which contributes to regional stability, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

PM Pashinyan said that the Armenian Government is guided by the agenda of establishing peace and highly values the continuous support to this process by international partners, including the United States.

Ambassador Tracy thanked the Prime Minister for the appreciation and reiterated the readiness of the United States to continue supporting the democratic reforms in Armenia, the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and establishing regional stability. In this context Ambassador Tracy mentioned the recent call between the Armenian PM and the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and praised the Armenian Ambassador to United States Lilit Makunts’ efforts for intensifying the bilateral relations.

The sides also exchanged views over the Armenia-United States relations agenda.

Azerbaijan releases Armenian soldier taken captive on April 23

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijan released the Armenian conscript who had crossed into Azerbaijani territory on April 23 and was subsequently taken captive.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense said Private Eduard Martirosov was handed over to the Armenian authorities on May 26.

“In accordance to the agreements reached during the May 22 trilateral meeting in Brussels, and in mediation of Major General Andrey Volkol, the Commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Artsakh, the conscripted serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces, Private Eduard Martirosov, who had crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on April 23 this year, was handed over to the Armenian side on May 26,” the Armenian Ministry of Defense said.

President of Montenegro arrives in Armenia on official visit

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović arrived in Armenia on an official visit, Armenpress correspondent reports.

The plane of the President has just landed at Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport.

The delegation led by the President of Montenegro will visit the Armenian Genocide Memorial.

The official welcoming ceremony for Milo Đukanović at the Armenian presidential residence will be followed by his meeting with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan. Thereafter, an extended-format meeting will take place attended by the delegations of the two countries. The two Presidents will then hold a joint press conference.

Milo Đukanović will meet with Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan.

The President of Montenegro will also visit the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Yerevan.
