YEREVAN, JUNE 23, ARMENPRESS. The Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia approved a motion for disciplinary action against its suspended chairman Ruben Vardazaryan.

Acting President of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Jhangiryan released the decision at today’s meeting.

“President of the Supreme Judicial Council, judge of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, Ruben Vardazaryan’s powers are terminated on grounds of a serious disciplinary action”, Gagik Jhangiryan said, adding that the decision takes effect immediately after its publication and is not subject to appeal.

YEREVAN, JUNE 23, ARMENPRESS. Chairman of the Competition Protection Commission of Armenia Gegham Gevorgyan says that the prices of some food products have declined in the market.

After the Cabinet meeting today he told reporters that the price of the New Zealand butter has declined from 4692 drams to 4400 drams, and the price of Anchor butter has decreased from 5038 drams to 4691 drams.

“The Competition Protection Commission does not deal with regulation of prices. I don’t rule out that there may be areas and businesses that will make abuses”, he said.

Commenting on the prices of fuel and diesel fuel, he said that Iran is not selling diesel fuel and fuel in foreign markets recently, and most of the diesel fuel and petrol is imported to Armenia from the Russian Federation.

“Not only the dollar exchange rate affects the prices of the diesel fuel. The stock market price of the diesel fuel has significantly increased all over the world”, Gevorgyan said.

YEREVAN, JUNE 23, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received new Head of the Mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Armenia Iva Petrova, the PM’s Office said.

PM Pashinyan congratulated Mrs. Petrova on assuming office and expressed hope that she will contribute with her knowledge and experience to raising the efficiency of the cooperation between the Armenian government and the IMF. Nikol Pashinyan said the previous joint three-year project has been implemented successfully, expressing confidence that new projects will be developed in the future.

Then, the PM touched upon the macroeconomic situation in Armenia, adding that quite high economic indicators are being recorded this year, and the state budget revenues have a progressive growth. He also talked about the fight against corruption, the reduction in cash payments, the introduction of income declaration system and other reforms, stating that the government is receiving truth on this path as the previous reforms have given positive results.

The IMF Mission Head highlighted the intensive cooperation with the government of Armenia, stating that the IMF will continue contributing to economic stability and development in Armenia with new programs. She called the ongoing economic indicators in Armenia impressive and highlighted the necessity to ensure the continuation of the reforms.

The sides also discussed issues on implementing investments projects in road construction, education, infrastructure, water resource management, water reservoir construction, customs regulations and other public sectors.

World Health Network declares monkeypox a pandemic

YEREVAN, JUNE 23, ARMENPRESS. The World Health Network (WHN) has declared monkeypox a pandemic.

The WHN made a statement which says:

“In view of the growth of monkeypox in 58 countries through local community transmission around the world, with 3,417 confirmed Monkeypox cases reported across 58 countries, and the rate of growth of cases increasing week by week across multiple continents,

the severe pain, scaring, blindness, and death, which has been observed in cases of Monkeypox historically,

the greater severity of Monkeypox in children, who have thus far been spared during the current outbreak but are likely to be infected increasingly as community transmission expands,

the danger of transmission to wildlife, including rodents such as mice, rats, squirrels, and domesticated pets, which would become a reservoir that will expand across the world leading to ongoing risk of human infection and the need to modify daily life due to this ongoing risk to avoid exposure in many contexts,

The World Health Network (WHN) declares the monkeypox outbreak a Public Health Emergency of Global Concern, by which it indicates that this outbreak is not limited to a single country or region and should be addressed by immediate actions taken wherever community transmission is taking place in order to ensure that the least effort is needed and the smallest impact is suffered due to this outbreak”.

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) is going to convene an emergency meeting to assess the global risk of the outbreak of the disease.




High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs introduces Greek-Armenian community on challenges facing homeland

YEREVAN, JUNE 23, ARMENPRESS. High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia Zareh Sinanyan met with the Armenian community structures, Armenian clergymen and Greek-Armenians on June 22 at the Embassy of Armenia in Greece, the Embassy said.

At the beginning of the meeting Armenian Ambassador to Greece Tigran Mkrtchyan presented the purpose of the visit of Zareh Sinanyan to Greece.

In his remarks Zareh Sinanyan introduced the activity of his Office. He highlighted the further development of the Armenia-Diaspora and Diaspora-Armenia relations, presented the strategy, the policy and ongoing programs being carried out by his Office, such as iGorts, Diaspora Youth Ambassador programs.

He also touched upon the programs of promoting repatriation, establishing business ties with Armenia, implementing and attracting investments.

Answering to the questions of the meeting participants, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs also touched upon the internal and external challenges facing Armenia, as well as the regional developments.

PM Pashinyan, the German Ambassador discuss the agenda of the Armenian-German partnership

YEREVAN, JUNE 23, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia Victor Richter, ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of relations with Germany, which is Armenia’s largest trade and economic partner among the EU countries, and expressed confidence that the high level political dialogue will further promote mutually beneficial cooperation.

Ambassador Richter noted that Germany is interested in developing cooperation with Armenia and reaffirms its support for Armenia’s democratic reforms.

The interlocutors discussed the prospects for deepening Armenian-German ties. Expressing satisfaction with the programs implemented within the framework of the bilateral agenda, Nikol Pashinyan considered intensive agriculture a promising direction. The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany welcomed the Prime Minister’s proposal and mentioned also the joint programs in the fields of SME, energy, water management, e-governance, finance and other spheres. The sides attaches importance to the activities of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Reconstruction Credit Institute (KfW) in Armenia.

During the meeting the sides also touched upon regional developments and work on unblocking the communication routes. PM Pashinyan and Ambassador Richter exchanged views on the situation in Nagorno Karabakh.

The Prime Minister presented Armenia’s positions on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the peace agenda announced by the Armenian Government. Nikol Pashinyan stressed that the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh’s status remains unresolved, it should be settled within the framework of the internationally recognized format, under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. The Prime Minister touched upon the issues of the return of Armenian prisoners of war, hostages and other detainees still being held in Azerbaijan, the protection and preservation of the Armenian historical and cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh.

YEREVAN, JUNE 23, ARMENPRESS. Human Rights Defender of Armenia Kristine Grigoryan delivered a video message during the discussion with the UN Special Rapporteur on extra-judicial, summary or arbitrary executions within the framework of the 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council, emphasizing that during and after the Nagorno Karabakh war the international response to the torture of the Armenian civilian population by Azerbaijani Armed Forces, even to the extremely brutal acts spread on the Internet, has been, to put it mildly, disproportionate and insufficient.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Human Rights Defender, in her statement the Defender highly appreciated the work of the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions stressing the need for further strengthening the mandate and allocating more resources.

The Defender reflected on the response to torture, extrajudicial and summary executions of Armenian civilian captives and PoW during and after the 2020 hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh, which has been inadequate, and insufficient to say the least creating preconditions for extrajudicial and arbitrary executions in other ongoing conflicts. Summing-up the Speech, as a guarantee of effective implementation of the mandate the Defender stressed the imperative of visiting the regions and territories more by Special Rapporteur emphasizing the need for better understanding on the ground. Highlighting the role of national human rights institutions as a valuable partner to the Special Rapporteur, Defender Grigoryan expressed her willingness for partnership.

Concluding her speech, the Human Rights Defender stressed the imperative of the Special Rapporteur to pay more visits to the region, emphasizing the need to get acquainted with the situation on the ground as a guarantee of effective implementation of the mandate.
