Vice Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan met today with Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Krai Alexander Uss within the framework of the 35th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of Armenia and the Federal Assembly of Russia in Krasnoyarsk, the Armenian Parliament’s press service said.

Issues related to the promotion of regional cooperation were discussed. According to Hakob Arshakyan, effective connections between different communities and regions of Armenia and Russia are of a particular importance in the context of the expansion of bilateral economic relations. According to the Vice Speaker of Parliament, this potential for the development of bilateral relations should be fully and effectively used.

Hakob Arshakyan assured that the dynamic Armenian-Russian dialogue will continue to develop for the welfare and prosperity of both countries and peoples.

The sides discussed the prospects of development between the Krasnoyarsk Krai and Armenia.

Council of Armenian Parliament puts into circulation draft decision on stripping opposition MPs of mandate

YEREVAN, JULY 11, ARMENPRESS. The Council of the National Assembly of Armenia put into circulation a draft decision which envisages applying to the Constitutional Court on stripping members of opposition “Hayastan” and “I have an Honor” factions of mandates, the Parliament’s press service said.

According to the draft decision, the list of MPs does not include lawmakers Taguhi Tovmasyan and Ishkhan Zakaryan, who were elected to the Parliament with the quota of “I have an Honor” faction.

Earlier Ishkhan Zakaryan announced leaving “I have an Honor” faction.

By the way, the list does not include also the name of Martun Grigoryan, who received a parliamentary mandate after Artur Vanetsyan resigned on June 30. Grigoryan is included in the "I have honor" faction.

Armenian PM holds telephone conversation with Turkish President

YEREVAN, JULY 11, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the PM’s Office said.

The Prime Minister congratulated the President on Kurban Bayram, and the President congratulated the Prime Minister on the upcoming Vardavar-Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.

The leaders emphasized the importance they attach to the bilateral normalization process between their respective countries which will also contribute to the strengthening of peace and stability in the region.

In this context they expressed their expectation for the early implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting between the Special Representatives of their countries on July 1.

STARMUS VI a new opportunity to develop scientific tourism in Armenia

YEREVAN, JULY 11, ARMENPRESS. STARMUS VI Festival, that is going to take place in Armenia this year on September 5-10, is a good opportunity to boost scientific tourism in the country.

From sectoral debates to various concerts, Star Party, etc. All these could bring foreign tourists to Armenia, Co-founder of the Festival Garik Israelian said, while introducing Armenian tour companies on the opportunities to be provided by the Festival.

The meeting held today was also attended President of the Tourism Committee Sisian Boghossian.

“The main task of the Festival is the communication of science so that science is delivered to the people”, Israelian said.

The scientific Festival particularly gave impressive results in Norway, by engaging a large number of people.

“Many young people and school-children in Armenia are interested in technologies and science. And this Festival is first of all for them in order to engage them. The second reason of holding the Festival in Armenia is to make the country’s image better. We want to do strategic things for the country”, he added.

Garik Israelian said the basis exist in Armenia as the country once had very good science, technologies, but the world is not aware of this. And now the goal is to bring not only scientists but also tourists to Armenia thanks to this Festival.

Israelian is sure that tourists arriving in Armenia could be interested in this scientific Festival because many famous musicians, scientists, Nobel Prize winners will visit Armenia for the Festival. A Star Party will take place in Garni. There will be telescopes after 22:00, a live music and cocktails till late night.

“Armenia is attracting tourists mainly with its monasteries, ancient sites and history. Let’s now try to attract those people who are interested in this Festival”, he said.

Many sites in Armenia, like the Observatory, Karahunj, etc, could attract tourists in this context.

The tour operators were introduced on the agenda of the Festival and the ticket prices. They called this Festival a very good opportunity for creating a new tourism product. According to them, this Festival could bring tourists to Armenia especially from Georgia and Iran, as well as from Russia, Kazakhstan and also the European countries.

Director of one of the travel companies Armen Grigoryan called this Festival a wonderful opportunity for development of scientific tourism. “This is a unique opportunity as very few countries can make some proposals of scientific tourism”, he said, adding that currently the tour-operators are preparing to work with their foreign partners on this direction and to present this new opportunity.

Doctor in medical sciences Armen Muradyan has been awarded with the Memorial Medal of the Prime Minister of Armenia for his long-term and productive activities.

Arayik Harutyunyan handed over the Medal to the YSMU Rector, congratulating him on the 50th birthday.

Foreign Minister of Rwanda visits Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan

YEREVAN, JULY 11, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda Vincent Biruta and his delegation visited today the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan on the sidelines of the two-day visit in Armenia.

The delegation was accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan, the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute said.

Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Harutyun Marutyan introduced the guests on the history of the Memorial and the three cross-stones located in the territory of the Memorial.

Vincent Biruta laid a wreath at the Memorial and the guests laid flowers at the Eternal Flame by paying a tribute to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims with a moment of silence.

The Rwandan guests also toured the Armenian Genocide Museum, got acquainted with the temporary and permanent exhibits, and then the Foreign Minister left a note in the Honorary Guest Book.

The guests also visited the seminar hall of the Museum-Institute where a training for American teachers was being held.

Addressing the training participants, the Rwandan FM, as a representative of a country that faced genocide, highlighted such programs, expressing hope that it would be possible to prevent the repetition of genocide through education.

At the end of the visit the guests toured the Memory park where Vincent Biruta watered the silver fir tree planted by former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Rwanda Louise Mushikiwabo.

YEREVAN, JULY 11, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received today Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda Vincent Biruta and his delegation, the PM’s Office said.

During the meeting PM Pashinyan highly valued the Armenia-Rwanda cooperation within the International Organization of La Francophonie, expressing hope that it will also contribute to developing the bilateral relations. Pashinyan warmly remembered his contacts with the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame during his visit in Armenia, as well as on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, reaffirming the readiness to deepen the partnership.

The Foreign Minister of Rwanda thanked the Armenian PM for the welcome and conveyed the warm greetings and wishes of the Rwandan President to Mr. Pashinyan. He assessed the discussions with the partners of the Armenian Foreign Ministry effective and stated that Rwanda is interested in the cooperation with Armenia both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

The sides exchanged ideas about the agenda of cooperation within the OIF, touched upon the prospects of developing the bilateral commercial ties. In this respect, they emphasized tourism sector as interesting.

PM Pashinyan asked to convey his greetings to the President of Rwanda.

EUR exchange rate down by 0.90 drams to 415.60 drams. Russian Ruble exchange rate down by 0.03 drams to 6.69 drams. GBP exchange rate down by 0.89 drams to 491.34 drams.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Gold price down by 112.53 drams to 22966.26 drams. Silver price down by 2.79 drams to 253.68 drams. Platinum price stood at 16414.1 drams.

YEREVAN, JULY 11, ARMENPRESS. Chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, a session of the Police Reforms Coordinating Council was held, ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The tasks to be done in the next 6 months in the sidelines of the police reform strategy were presented, including the process of introducing the Patrol Service in Shirak and Lori Provinces.

It was reported that in the second half of the year, it is planned to ensure the continuity of the introduction of the operational center for the management of the Patrol Service. Next, Patrol Service units will be formed in Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Tavush and Aragatsotn Provinces, and then throughout the country. The training processes of the future Patrol Service personnel in the above mentioned 4 Provinces will start in August. In total, 1,880 people applied for getting a job at the Patrol Service, of which only 718 are police officers. 1,332 people have received the right to participate in the examination process, of which 606 will join the service.

Next, the technical equipment of the Patrol Service, the reorganization of the Police forces, and the creation of the National Guard were discussed. The officials in charge assured that all the activities are carried out in accordance with the timeline.

Issues related to the activity of regional police departments and the new model of territorial divisions were also discussed.

Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized the effective implementation of all the measures envisaged by the Police reforms and emphasized the need to carry out consistent work in the direction of expanding the involvement of women in the Patrol Service. In this regard, the Head of the Government gave specific instructions.
