America will not stand by as Azerbaijan continues its belligerency against the Armenian people – Adam Schiff

Public Radio of Armenia
Armenia – July 18 2022

Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) has emphasized the importance of recent U.S. House passage of Amendment #121 to the FY2023 National Defense Authorization Act (H.R.7900), reports the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

The measure calls for a report by the State Department and Defense Department that would detail the use of U.S. parts in Turkish drones used by Azerbaijan against Armenia and Artsakh; Azerbaijan’s use of white phosphorous, cluster bombs and other prohibited munitions deployed against Artsakh; Turkey’s and Azerbaijan’s recruitment of foreign terrorist fighters during the 2020 Artsakh war.

“Over the course of 44 days starting in September 2020, Azerbaijan perpetrated a horrific war and humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, killing thousands of Armenians and forcing thousands more to flee their ancestral homelands. And to this day, Azerbaijan continues to illegally detain Armenian soldiers who have been subject to torture. Azerbaijan also threatens thousands of innocent civilians who live in fear of another attack and invasion. It is of the utmost urgency that we understand the full extent to which Azerbaijan has violated international law so that we can hold the Aliyev regime to account, and send a strong message that America will not stand by as Azerbaijan continues its belligerency against the Armenian people,” said Congressman Schiff.

Joining Representatives Cardenas, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), and Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) as Congressional cosponsors of the bipartisan amendment include Representatives Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Judy Chu (D-CA), David Cicilline (D-RI), Anna Eshoo (D-CA), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), James Langevin (D-RI), Brenda Lawrence (D-MI), Andy Levin (D-MI), Ted Lieu (D-CA), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Linda Sanchez (D-CA), Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Jackie Speier (D-CA), Dina Titus (D-NV), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and David Valadao (R-CA).

Surprising meetings. Why is there no mention of Bakoyan’s physical violence and financial exploitation?

News.am
Armenia – July 18 2022

"Hayeli.am" referred to the news that Armenian Yezidi politician Rustam Bakoyan allegedly physically abused and financially exploited his Armenian ex-girlfriend. His ex-girlfriend accused Mr. Bakoyan of physically abusing her several times and robbing her of a large sum of money.

The site writes: "On July 6th, 2022 a meeting of the chairman of the board of the Central Council of Yezidis Germany, Mrs. Zemfira Dilovani, and Mr. Bakoyan took place in the Armenian embassy in Berlin. On the Facebook page of the Central Council of Yezidis in Germany, the meeting between Mrs. Dilovani and Mr. Bakoyan is being hailed and looked upon with great satisfaction, but no critical word nor sentence were the accusations that Mr. Bakoyan is accused of addressed.

Mrs. Dilovani, who publicly complained a while ago in an online conversation with Dr. Irfan Ortac on air at the Alevi TV station Yol TV that she as a female chairperson of the board of ZED (Central Council of Yezidis in Germany) is often not taken seriously or noticed by male Yezidis, seems to have no problem meeting with a politician who is accused of physical and psychological violence against women, despite her own alleged experiences as a woman in a leading position. However, not only Mrs. Dilovani seems to have no problem with the alleged actions of Bakoyan.

For example, Sahir Alias, nephew of the current and controversial spiritual leader Baba Sheikh Ali Alias and online activist posted a photo with Mr. Bakoyan on his Instagram profile on July 10, 2022, with the following caption:

"It was nice to meet you Mr. @rustambakoyan, I hope we can find a good solution for the Yezidis worldwide. Fighting for human rights/fighting for the Yezidi rights."

Apparently, it seems to be no problem for Mr. Sahir Alyas to meet with Mr. Bakoyan despite the massive accusations, even less so does he seem to be interested in the "human rights" of Mr. Bakoyan's ex-girlfriend.

We are amazed and shocked that Yezidi activists, dignitaries, and public figures have no problem meeting with Mr. Bakoyan without voicing any criticism about the allegations made against him.

This meeting is particularly surprising in light of the fact that Sahir Aliyas presented and introduced himself in public as a champion and representative of women's rights.

We hope that all parties involved will apologize publicly for this misconduct and take a clear position on the accusations made against Mr. Bakoyan."

Opposition MP reacts to former Armenian army chief’s ‘remarkable statements’ on 2020 war

Panorama
Armenia – July 18 2022

MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction has called the latest statements of Tiran Khachatryan, a former chief of the Armenian military’s General Staff, on the 2020 Artsakh war “remarkable”.

“Former Deputy Chief of the General Staff Tiran Khachatryan has made quite remarkable statements, which reveal new details about the 44-day war, confirming the existing suspicions,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday.

The lawmaker highlighted that General Khachatryan held a top position during the war, thus possessing military information which a “small number of people” had access to.

“In an interview with 168.am, the latter has confirmed that former General Staff Chief Onik Gasparyan ordered the army corps and the Artsakh Defense Army to go on the defensive, but there were some personnel who was not fully prepared for the enemy attacks, hinting at the Defense Army,” Abrahamyan said.

“Moreover, Khachatryan claims that before the war there was an order from the Chief of the General Staff to be at the defense points, but former Defense Army Commander Jalal Harutyunyan was not there when the war broke out.

“The main reason of our defeat in the war was that despite reliable data on the outbreak of hostilities (they say that the intelligence had even revealed the exact day of the war outbreak), the armed forces, particularly the Defense Army, were not fully deployed, carrying out only certain reinforcements, which in such circumstances was extremely inadequate.

“Moreover, the intelligence reportedly made it clear that the main target of the offensive would be Artsakh, thus the Armenian army corps not only took appropriate measures to put troops on high alert, but also had time to redeploy the ammunition bases, which was not the case with the Defense Army, the bases of which were hit by Azerbaijani forces immediately after the start of the war,” the MP said.

Vardan Voskanyan: Armenia is a natural impregnable stronghold

Panorama
Armenia – July 18 2022

Armenia is a natural impregnable stronghold, expert on Iran Vardan Voskanyan says, adding ceding even a small part of it to the enemy is a “shame”.

"I have always wondered how the barbarians managed to conquer our mountains. The main apparently logical reasons were our disorganization and disunity,” he wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

“Armenia is a natural impregnable stronghold, and ceding even an inch of it to barbarians is not only unacceptable, but also shameful,” Voskanyan said.
