Armenia submits to ECHR new interstate complete complaint against Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. On July 27, 2022, Armenia submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) a new interstate complete complaint against Azerbaijan, the Office of the Representative of Armenia on International Legal Issues said in a statement.

The complaint particularly relates to the violation of rights of civilians of Artsakh as a result of the Azerbaijani aggression launched in the direction of Artsakh’s Khramort and Parukh villages this year, the real threats made by Azerbaijan towards the residents of border villages of Artsakh, as well as the cases of use of force by the Azerbaijani armed forces against the civilians of Artsakh in 2021-2022, as a result of which the person’s right to life has been violated.

Mirzoyan, Lavrov discuss implementation process of trilateral agreements

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan held a telephone conversation today with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

During the phone talk the implementation process of the 2020 November 9, 2021 January 11 and November 26 high-level trilateral agreements were discussed. The commitment to implement them comprehensively and effectively, particularly those relating to the unblocking of transportation and economic ties in South Caucasus, the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation and the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku, was reaffirmed.

In the context of bilateral relations, the sides paid special focus on the current situation of the Russian-Armenian ties and their further intensification prospects, including in the context of the implementation of the agreements reached during the Armenian Prime Minister’s recent official visit to Russia (April 19-20) and during the CSTO summit on May 16.

The FMs praised the high level of the mutual partnership between Yerevan and Moscow within the frames of common Eurasian integration structures.

The upcoming bilateral action plans were also discussed.

European Union approves disbursement of 14.2 million euro in grants to Armenia

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. The European Union has approved disbursements of 14.2 million EUR in grants for two budget support programmes – Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Armenia and The Covid-19 Resilience Contract for Armenia, the EU Delegation to Armenia said in a press release.

This decision follows a positive assessment on progress in the selected sector reform areas, macroeconomic stability, public financial management and state budget transparency.

‘These disbursements are a result of successful collaboration between the European Union and the Government of Armenia, and reflect the Government’s commitment to a recovery from the pandemic, and to the implementation of the CEPA agreement.’ stated H.E. Andrea Wiktorin, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia.

‘The Government of Armenia highly appreciates the fruitful partnership with the European Union in improving the economic resilience of Armenia and implementing key reforms to strengthen democracy and rule of law in the country, as stipulated in the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement,’ mentioned Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.

The new disbursements of 14.2 million EUR will support Armenia in the implementation of the justice reform and the mitigation of the socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the disbursements, the European Union will continue supporting Armenia's commitment to the reforms in line with European Union-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).




Kotayk Governor, Iranian Ambassador discuss cooperation opportunities in a number of areas

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. Governor of Kotayk province Aharon Sahakyan received Ambassador of Iran to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri and his delegation.

Commenting on the meeting, the Kotayk Governor said on social media: “I fully share the belief of Mr. Ambassador that our province has huge potential and opportunities, and we should strengthen and make closer the mutual contacts and cooperation as much as possible, by turning these opportunities into real actions. Discussions were held on a number of directions. We have outlined the directions and areas which will serve as a link for establishment of relations between the province and the different province of Iran”.

The sides particularly highlighted the fields of tourism, agriculture, education, culture, sport, etc.

The possibility of organizing exhibitions in Kotayk province and any province of Iran was considered.

The necessity of conducting exchange of experience was emphasized.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during which both sides attached importance to the release and repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

Mirzoyan and Lavrov addressed the course of implementation of the agreements reached by the 2020 November 9, 2021 January 11 and November 26 trilateral statements.

The FMs exchanged views on the humanitarian issues caused by the 44-day war.

Mirzoyan and Lavrov also discussed the current security situation in the region.

The sides addressed other issues of regional and international agenda of mutual interest.




Deposits of non-residents grow over 70% in Armenia

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. The volume of deposits of non-residents in Armenia grew 70,4%, Central Bank Macroeconomics Department Chief Armen Nurbekyan told ARMENPRESS at a press conference.

“The deposits of non-resident physical persons grew 70,4% from February to June 30,” he said.

Most of the growth is associated with demand deposits. Quantitatively the accounts of non-residents are growing, but not in the same pace as before.




Armenia Central Bank continues forecasting 8.5% inflation for 2022

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. The Central Bank of Armenia continues forecasting 8.5% inflation for 2022, as for the economic growth forecast, the CBA considers possible that the figure will be revised upward, CBA Deputy Governor Nerses Yeritsyan said at a press conference today.

“As of this moment, our previous forecast for inflation for the end of the year is maintained – 8.5%”, the CBA Deputy Governor said.

The Central Bank is making forecasts 4 times within a year. It will make a new forecast in September based on the developments. “The essence of our policy is to be able to bring inflation back to its target in a predictable period”, he said.

According to calculations, if the dram appreciation didn’t happen, inflation would have been higher by 1% instead of the 10.3% inflation registered in June.

As for the forecast for 2022 economic growth, the CBA Deputy Governor said: “Today there are actual indicators based on which we have a certain assessment and a decision over interest rates. Of course, there are some estimates for the year. It’s obvious there will be an upward adjustment if there are no other surprises from the outside world”.

Initially, the Central Bank forecasted 5.3% economic growth for 2022, but in March it revised it and lowered to 1.6%. In June the CBA again revised its forecast, rising it to 4.9%.




Pashinyan, Putin discuss implementation of trilateral agreements

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin reported.

PM Pashinyan and President Putin discussed “individual practical aspects of implementation of the 2020 November 9, 2021 January 11 and November 26 trilateral agreements between the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on Nagorno Karabakh.”

An agreement was reached to continue contacts on various levels.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. On August 2 the President of the Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan convened an extended session of the Security Council with the participation of the political forces of the National Assembly.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the Arstakh President’s Office, the situation created yesterday on the contact line was discussed. Minister of Defense Kamo Vardanyan made a report. According to the Minister, tensions continue in a number of sections of the contact line, and the Defense Army is in control of the situation without any casualties or positional losses.

The next issue on the agenda was about the corridor connecting the Republic of Artsakh with the Republic of Armenia. The Azerbaijani side, through the peacekeeping troops stationed in Artsakh, presented a demand to organize traffic through the new route in the near future.

The steps to be taken in the current situation were discussed at the Security Council session, including the provision of safe traffic through Russian peacekeeping troops.





Ministry of Emergency Situations receives alarm about installation of explosive devices in a number of key facilities

On August 2, at 6:59 p.m., the National Crisis Management Center received information that explosive devices have been installed in Yerevan City Hall, all metro stations, "Zvartnots" International Airport, 19 Baghramyan St., as well as in all important military and civilian facilities.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Ministry of the Emergency Situations of Armenia, rescue service units have departed for all the mentioned addresses.
