Armenia`s ex-FM calls on Armenia`s FM, Security Council Sec to resign

ARMINFO
Armenia – Aug 9 2022

ArmInfo. Armenian Premier Nikol Pashinyan's family considers political and material values to be much more important than national interests, Raffi Hovhannisian,  Chairman of the Heritge party and former FM, told reporters on  Tuesday.

Just a few days ago, the secretary of Armenia's Security Council and  Armenia's foreign minister stated that Armenia's authorities rejected  Azerbaijan's demand for evacuation of the Berdzor and Aghavno  residents.  That was official Yerevan's position. However, a few days  later, one person decided against that, Mr Hovhannisian said,  recalling that earlier, without the Constitutional Court's decision  or ratification by Armenia's Parliament, the same person surrendered  Sanasar and the Goris-Kapan highway, part of Armenia's sovereign  territory, to the enemy, under a verbal agreement. The territories in  question are not mentioned in the Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian  statement.

"Given the situation, the secretary of the Security Council and  Armenia's foreign minister must resign – if, of course, they have  self-respect," Mr Hovhannisian said.

Armenia has no supreme commander-in-chief any longer, and the  mechanisms of ensuring Artsakh's security by official Yerevan are not  actually working. Armenia is not any longer the rear of Artsakh, and  all the actions by Armenia's authorities suggest they consent to  Nagorno-Karabakh remaining part of Azerbaijan. And from now on Baku  will be in control of energy and gas supply to Artsakh, and the  country itself will be blockaded.

"We have seen that the lower status for Artsakh actually means, and  we ourselves are involved in the process. At one time, due to  tremendous efforts, we could open 'a lifeline' between Armenia and  Artsakh.  and now, 30 years later, we are closing it," Mr  Hovhannisian said.

The Artsakh authorities called on the Berdzor and Aghavno residents  to leave their homes before August 25. In response, the Berdzor  residents blocked the road to the Lachin corridor, demanding security  guarantees in their home town. Armenia's Minister of Territorial  Administration Gnel Sanosyan stated earlier that the construction of  an alternative highway will be completed next spring.

Forecast: Azerbaijani provocations will not stop with the surrender of Berdzor

ArmInfo. All recent actions of Azerbaijan in Artsakh are a consequence of military realities between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Hovik Aghazaryan, MP from the Civil Contract  parliamentary faction, expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.

"Baku, realizing that the Artsakh problem is still far from being  resolved, and the post-war realities are not limited only to its  statements, according to which "there is no more Karabakh problem",  moreover, "there is no Karabakh itself", today resorts to military  provocations, with the hope of achieving the results of the 44-day  war," he said.

According to the parliamentarian,  it is within the framework of this  logic Azerbaijan is in a hurry to solve the Lachin Corridor issue,  striving to quickly complete what was started on September 27, 2020,  although according to the same statement of November 9, three years  have been allocated for this. And as an argument, it presents the  bypass road built in the direction of Teghi and Kornidzor.

According to the parliamentarian, one way or another, the land  connection between Armenia and Artsakh cannot be interrupted.  Regardless of whether or not Armenia will build a bypass, alternative  road in Artsakh on time. At the same time, Aghazaryan expressed  confidence in the continuation of Azerbaijani provocations in Artsakh  and on the border with Armenia after the surrender of Berdzor.

"The reason for such a forecast is still the same – Baku is  dissatisfied with the results of the last war.  Accordingly, it will  continue to put pressure on us through shelling, regardless of the  terms of Berdzor's handover, while continuing to promise its society  to get to Sevan, Meghri, Yerevan, etc. Accordingly, regardless of  everything, we must be ready to launch a worthy counterattack at any  moment," he stressed.

Recalling that the surrender of Berdzor was originally agreed on  November 9, 2020, Aghazaryan stressed that the Armenian government  does not intend to make any other territorial concessions, primarily  on the issue of the so-called corridor through the Syunik region of  Armenia. According to him, today it is only about the possibility of  communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan in accordance with  the legislation of Armenia.

Armenian First Human Rights Defender: Armenian society is not aware of the processes around Armenia

ArmInfo. The surrender of Berdzor, Aghavno and Sus to Azerbaijan is an arbitrary decision, which is determined solely by the logic in the spirit of "the winner  decides everything." Larisa Alaverdyan, First Human Rights Defender  of Armenia expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.

"All this has nothing to do with international law and is due to the  results recorded by Azerbaijan and Turkey in the 44-day war and, of  course, the agreement of our leadership to fix those results, which  it had no right to do. All these tendencies have no legal or real  basis.Simply because even in the ill-fated document of November 9,  there is not a word about Azerbaijan's latest demands," she noted.

According to Alaverdyan, as a result of the situation that the  current government has brought the country to, Armenia is not even  considered as a sovereign subject of international law. Which, in her  opinion, significantly limits the possibilities of Armenia's  geopolitical maneuvering in the current situation, full of challenges  and threats.

In Alaverdyan's opinion, today the Armenian society is not only  deluded, but, on the whole, is practically unaware of the processes  taking place around Armenia. Meanwhile, it should have long ago  voiced its disagreement with the illegal steps of the illegitimate  leadership of Armenia leading to the de-Armenization of Artsakh and  the loss of Armenia's sovereignty. After that, it is necessary to  apply to all possible international institutions, regardless of their  orientation, to confirm the illegal nature of the processes around  the Armenian-inhabited villages of the Lachin Corridor," she  stressed.

Meanwhile, according to Alaverdyan's assessments, in contrast to  Armenia, the leaderships of Azerbaijan and Turkey have shown and are  showing an enviable consistency. And since the formation of  Azerbaijan by Turkey with the aim of finally destroying Armenia and  Armenians, Ankara has been using Azerbaijan as a tool for its  implementation. Moreover, this process did not stop even in the  Soviet period.

Justice Party welcomes initiative to create movement in defense of Artsakh

ArmInfo. "Justice" Party of Artsakh welcomes the initiative of our compatriots to create a  movement in defense of Artsakh and calls on its structures to unite  with all their potential around the established and future initiative  groups, the location and contact information of which will be  published below. This is stated in a statement issued by a political  force.

"In the conditions of the military-political situation created in  Artsakh, when in the 21st century the Azerbaijani side with the  assistance of Turkey contrary to all international, moral and  humanitarian norms increases pressure on both Armenia and Artsakh,  and in fact, before the very eyes of the international community ,  carries out another eviction of the Armenian people from their native  cradle, there can be an opportunity to resist and use the potential  of all Armenians for the benefit of the Motherland only if there is a  broad consolidation of all Armenians in the name of the defense of  Artsakh. The Armenian has repeatedly proved that he is not ready to  save his life at the cost of his Motherland. "Justice" Party of  Artsakh welcomes the initiative of our compatriots to create a  movement in defense of Artsakh and calls on its structures to unite  with all their potential around the established and future initiative  groups, the location and contact information of which will be  published below. We would like to note that this initiative was also  adopted and implemented with great enthusiasm in the Republic of  Armenia and among our compatriots in the Diaspora. We are confident  that the spirit of resistance of the Armenian people is not broken,  and we are ready and able to unite to defend the Republic of  Artsakh," the statement reads.

How an Armenian startup plans to use a new innovation to tackle the billion-dollar phishing industry

Aug 9 2022

So-called ‘Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance’, or DMARC, is a technical standard that is designed to protect the senders and recipients of email from spam, spoofing, and phishing. Before you fall asleep, it’s worth pointing out that this is a booming tech sector.

What the fast-growing DMARC protocol is doing now is what “https” did the web: making email more communication secure. There were 6 million domains using DMARC in 2021 and 10m in 2022. It’s growing, fast.

Companies in the space include Valimai (raised $84M) and RedSift (raised $64.8M), among others.

And they are tackling a big problem. According to Statista, 333 billion emails are sent every day. And email remains an enormously powerful brand communication platform. But 84% of emails are spam (July 2021). Meanwhile, a vast number of cyberattacks are carried out through simple phishing emails. And yet email remains one of the few non-proprietary method of communication online, given so much of our interactions are now effectively owned by platforms like Facebook and Google.

Back in 2016, Gerasim Hovhanisyan says he was working as an information security consultant, when he was asked to look into the aftermath of a severe email phishing attack on a multi-billion dollar company.

He looked into the latest email security technologies but decided that there were a variety of solutions, but none which packed the DMARC protocol into something relatively easy for businesses to use. So together with co-founder Avag Arakelyan, in 2018 they launched their startup to tackle this problem.

The resulting EasyDMARC is a B2B SaaS solution that claims to make email authentication simple for SMEs by securing domain and email infrastructure, protecting from phishing and increasing email deliverability. It does this by making sure there are security protocols for a business that stop hackers from sending phishing emails on their behalf, among others things.

The startup now says it has 30,000 clients from 130 countries and has analysed a staggering 9 billions emails.

Now, after a period of bootstrapping, EasyDMARC has raised a Seed round, of $2.3M in a round led by Acrobator Ventures (lead investor, Joachim Laqueur), Formula VC and an unnamed US-based public security company.

The deal marks a significant moment in the Armenian tech startup ecosystem, since both Hovhannisyan and Arakelyan are alumni employers of Picsart, the country’s main unicorn at this time.

Azerbaijani Minister says Azerbaijan and Turkey have goals to achieve

NEWS.am
Armenia – Aug 8 2022

Turkey and Azerbaijan still have many goals to achieve, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov said in his speech at the 13th Conference of Ambassadors in Ankara, Azerbaijani media reported.

"We have already reached the level of protection and promotion of interests of Azerbaijan by Turkish diplomats at various international platforms, and interests of Turkey as our state interests by Azerbaijani diplomats… Our relations have risen to the level of strategic alliance," the media quoted the head of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry as saying.

Turkish press: Ankara-Baku ties mark level of strategic alliance: FM Bayramov

Turkish-Azerbaijani "relations have risen to the level of strategic alliances. However, we have a long way to go and goals to reach," Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan's foreign minister, said at the 13th Ambassadors Conference in the Turkish capital Ankara.

Citing Türkiye's rising role as an international actor and diplomatic successes, Azerbaijan's top diplomat on Monday said Türkiye "has become one of the leading countries in the development and implementation of innovations in diplomacy, as in many other fields."

Noting that there have been rapid and serious changes in the international system over the last 30 years, Bayramov said that these developments in fact show the turmoil and dissatisfaction in the international system.

"The increasing social injustice and disregard for human values in the current international system, especially in a crisis situation, is another factor that worries each of us today. We observed the most obvious example of this during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was a serious test for our humanity," he added.

Bayramov hailed ties between the two countries and praised Türkiye's role in the international arena.

"We welcome Türkiye's transformation into a leading and central country in diplomacy, and we take your success as our own," he said.

Bayramov added that Türkiye marked its place in history as a country that stands by the truth, righteousness and justice through its political and diplomatic support to Azerbaijan when it liberated its lands from occupation.

Relations between the two former Soviet countries have been tense since 1991 when the Armenian military occupied Karabakh, a territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent regions.

New clashes erupted in September 2020 and the 44-day conflict saw Azerbaijan liberate several cities and more than 300 settlements and villages that were occupied by Armenia for almost 30 years.

Türkiye was a key backer of Azerbaijan during the 44-day Nagorno-Karabakh war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which erupted on Sept. 27, 2020, and ended with a Russian-brokered cease-fire and sizeable Azerbaijani gains on Nov. 10.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Saturday that the international community "unfortunately" kept silent when Azerbaijani territories were occupied by Armenia until the fall of 2020, when with Turkish help, Azerbaijan took back its land.

"To put an end to this injustice, the support of Türkiye was given to the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. Thanks to an epic struggle that lasted for 44 days, Karabakh regained its freedom, and the 30-year occupation came to an end," he said, referring to the fall 2020 conflict.

"With the agreements reached, a new era started in the South Caucasus. We are working hard to ensure that this historic opportunity is not wasted."

Türkiye and Armenia have since taken "important steps" toward peace in the Caucasus, and have appointed representatives to normalize ties, Erdoğan said.

"I believe that our region will be stabilized in a short time if Armenia reads the developments correctly and responds to the sincere calls of Azerbaijan and Türkiye," he added.

On last week's flare-up of violence between the Caucasus nations of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also said Türkiye "once again warns Armenia not to engage in new provocations."

When Azerbaijan in the fall of 2020 liberated territory in Karabakh that was occupied by Armenia for nearly three decades, said Çavuşoğlu, Türkiye stood for justice and supported the righteous and truthful side.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian discussed the developments in Karabakh and security issues on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border in a phone call on Monday, the Kremlin said in a statement.

The Kremlin last week called for restraint from both sides after Azerbaijan said its forces had foiled an Armenian attack near Karabakh, formerly referred to as Nagorno-Karabakh.

Azerbaijan announced that it has regained control of several strategic locations in the Karabakh region, in a new escalation after Armenia attacked and killed an Azerbaijani soldier.

Azerbaijan has repeatedly pointed to Armenia's failure to meet the provisions of the Nov. 10, 2020 agreement signed by the two nations plus Russia, drawing particular attention to how Armenian armed groups have not yet pulled out of Azerbaijani territories in Karabakh, said a ministry statement.

In January 2021, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a pact to develop economic ties and infrastructure to benefit the entire region. It also included the establishment of a trilateral working group in Karabakh.

After the conflict ended, Azerbaijan launched a massive reconstruction initiative in the liberated Karabakh region.

In July, Azerbaijan began the process of returning its people to land recaptured from Armenian forces in what Baku calls "The Great Return." The oil-rich country has vowed to repopulate the recaptured lands.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had for years promised to recapture lands lost in the 1990s and the first returns marked a symbolic moment for Azerbaijan.

On June 15, 2021, Türkiye and Azerbaijan also signed a declaration “on allied relations” aimed at deepening ties in several areas of cooperation, including security, during a visit to Shusha, a city that Azerbaijan liberated from Armenian occupational forces in the conflict. The city, known as the pearl of Karabakh, was occupied by Armenia on May 8, 1992.

The declaration focuses on defense cooperation and establishing new transportation routes, affirming the joint efforts by the two armies in the face of foreign threats, and the restructuring and modernization of their armed forces.

Ankara has made frequent calls for a six-nation platform comprising Türkiye, Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia for permanent peace, stability and cooperation in the region, saying it would be a win-win initiative for all regional actors in the Caucasus.

Türkiye believes that permanent peace is possible through mutual security-based cooperation among the states and people of the South Caucasus region.

Turkish press: New tensions explode over Karabakh, 3 soldiers killed

New tensions erupted over the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh on Aug. 3 as three soldiers were killed and Azerbaijan said it had taken control of several strategic heights in the disputed region.

Arch enemies Armenia and Azerbaijan fought two wars – in 2020 and in the 1990s – over the occupied region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

In the aftermath of the latest war, Armenia was forced to cede swathes of territory it had controlled for decades, and Russia deployed some 2,000 peacekeepers to oversee a fragile truce, but tensions persist despite a ceasefire agreement.

On Wednesday, new tensions flared as Azerbaijan said it had lost a soldier and the Karabakh army said two of its troops had been killed and more than a dozen injured.

The Azerbaijani defence ministry said Karabakh troops targeted its army positions in the district of Lachin, which is under the supervision of the Russian peacekeeping force, killing an Azerbaijani conscript.

The Azerbaijani army later said it conducted an operation dubbed "Revenge" in response and took control of several strategic heights in Karabakh.

The army of the breakaway statelet for its part accused Azerbaijan of violating a ceasefire and killing two soldiers and wounding another 14.

The escalation came after Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday.

The European Union called for an "immediate cessation of hostilities" between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces in Karabakh.

In July, Azerbaijan began the process of returning its people to land recaptured from Armenian separatists in what Baku calls "The Great Return".

The oil-rich country has vowed to repopulate the recaptured lands.

President Ilham Aliyev had for years promised to recapture lands lost in the 1990s and the first returns marked a symbolic moment for Azerbaijan.
