YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. Slovakia appreciates Armenia’s efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability in the region, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok said at the joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan.

He expressed hope that new processes are launching in the region, after more than 30 years of insecurity, which would eventually lead to reconciliation.

“The meeting touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. We were attaching great importance to refraining from any action having a potential for escalation. We also highlight the complete implementation of the commitments assumed by the November 9 statement. Every conflict leads to sufferings of ordinary people. If there is a will, determination to achieve peace, every conflict is possible to solve. As an EU member state we continue supporting the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. We welcome the actions aimed at strengthening trust, such as the return of the Armenian prisoners of war, who are held in Azerbaijan. The return of Armenian POWs and civilians held there must continue, and also conditions must be provided for conducting demining in order to prevent additional losses”, the Slovak FM said.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Parliament will hold a closed-format session to discuss the current situation on the Goris-Kapan highway in the Syunik province.

Secretary of the Armenia faction Artsvik Minasyan told reporters at a briefing that a respective agreement has been reached in the Parliament.

“Yesterday we have submitted a letter on behalf of the Armenia faction proposing to attend the session at the level of top officials. It’s very important for us to get complete information”, he said.

He said that the discussion may involve elements of state secret, therefore, they are ready for a closed discussion.

“The important task is to be able to solve the current challenges facing the country. Works need to be done at all directions. The simplest example is that today the sovereignty of Armenia has been violated. In fact, we have lost the sovereignty in that territory, the territorial integrity is violated, and there must be a criminal case over that. We expect that the Prosecutor General will answer to all questions”, Artsvik Minasyan said.

He noted that they must be informed from the Foreign Ministry whether necessary actions are being taken with the Iranian side or what processes are taking place in international platforms.

“As a result of the discussion with the leadership of the Parliament a decision was made to hold a closed-format discussion”, he said, adding that an agreement has been reached to hold that meeting as soon as possible. “It will take place either today or tomorrow”, he added.

The police of Azerbaijan are checking the documents of drivers and cargo of trucks with Iranian license plates in the area of Eyvazli settlement under Azerbaijani control, near the Vorotan community on Goris-Kapan inter-state road.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. 0.4% inflation has been registered in Armenia in August 2021, against the 0.1% decline in August 2020, President of the Central Bank Martin Galstyan said at a press conference.

“In these circumstances the 12-month inflation continued increasing and comprised 8.8% by the end of the month, and the normal inflation in August has also been maintained within the 8% range”, the CBA President said.

He noted that in the third quarter of 2021 the economic activity and gross demand in main partner countries of Armenia continues growing rapidly than expected, despite certain slow rates of the use of COVID-19 vaccines and new outbreaks of the virus in different countries.

“In such situation the inflation is being maintained conditioned by several factors of the supply and demand”, he said, adding that inflationary impact is expected from the external sector on Armenia’s external economy.
