First Ambassador of Sierra Leone to Armenia presents credentials to President Sarkissian

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, ARMENPRESS. New Ambassador of Sierra Leone to Armenia Alie Badara Kamara (residence in Tehran, Iran) presented his credentials to President Armen Sarkissian on October 20, the President’s Office said in a statement.

President Sarkissian congratulated the Ambassador on appointment, expressing hope that he, as the first Ambassador of Sierra Leone to Armenia, will contribute to the development of the relations between the two countries.

Touching upon the prospective directions of cooperation, the sides highlighted the fields of education, science and culture. They also emphasized the importance of partnership between Armenia and Sierra Leone within international organizations.

Alie Badara Kamara assured that during his mission he will make maximum efforts to boost the cooperation between Armenia and Sierra Leone.

CoE delegation visits Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, ARMENPRESS. The Group of Rapporteurs on Democracy of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE) led by the Permanent Representative of Sweden to the CoE, Ambassador Mårten Ehnberg visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan.

Deputy director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Lusine Abrahamyan welcomed the guests and introduced them on the history of the creation of the Memorial, the Museum-Institute said in a news release.

The CoE delegation members laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, honoring the innocent victims with a moment of silence.

They also toured the Museum, got acquainted with the exhibits.

At the end of the visit Mårten Ehnberg left a note in the Honorary Guest Book.

SRC releases updated top 1000 taxpayer list

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, ARMENPRESS. The State Revenue Committee released the list of the top 1000 corporate taxpayers for the 9 months of 2021.

The 1000 major taxpayers paid a total of more than 871 billion 241 million drams to the budget (733 billion 143 million to taxation bodies and 138 billion 98 million to customs bodies).

The top corporate taxpayer is Gazprom Armenia (38 billion 266 million 412 thousand drams), followed by the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (38 billion 249 million 247 thousand drams) and the Ministry of Defense (34 billion 194 million 185 thousand drams).

Grand Tobacco is 4th with 24 billion 774 million 246 thousand drams in taxes, and the top 5 is concluded with Geopromining Gold with 16 billion 415 million 197 thousand drams.

International Masis Tabak, MTS Armenia, Teghut, CPS Oil and FLASH are included in the top 10.

UK supports OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship format on NK conflict settlement – Ambassador

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 20, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan received today Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Armenia John Gallagher, the foreign ministry said.

FM Mirzoyan expressed gratitude for the UK’s constant support to the democratic reforms, the strengthening of the rule of law and the fight against corruption in Armenia.

The minister and the Ambassador exchanged views on the Armenian-British bilateral agenda, highlighting trade, science, IT and tourism as prospective areas for cooperation.

They also discussed the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) which will be held in Glasgow, UK, this year in November, as well as the participation of the Armenian side to the summit.

Coming to issues relating to regional security and stability, the Armenian FM emphasized the importance of the lasting and comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. The Ambassador stated that the United Kingdom supports the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship format.

The Armenian FM also highlighted the necessity of an unrestricted entry for international organizations to Artsakh aimed at conducting humanitarian mission.

EUR exchange rate down by 2.88 drams to 553.94 drams. Russian Ruble exchange rate down by 0.03 drams to 6.71 drams. GBP exchange rate down by 3.04 drams to 656.26 drams.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Gold price up by 134.36 drams to 27265.26 drams. Silver price up by 7.23 drams to 363.58 drams. Platinum price up by 96.18 drams to 16041.54 drams.

Rosatom executive to visit Armenia to discuss construction of new nuclear power plant

The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures spokesperson Sona Harutyunyan told ARMENPRESS that the agenda of the visit includes the discussions on the double extension of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant’s lifecycle and the construction of a new nuclear power plant.

Armenian, Ukrainian Ombudsmen visit Genocide Memorial in Yerevan

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 19, ARMENPRESS. Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Lyudmyla Denisova and her delegation visited today the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan, accompanied by Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan.

In a statement Mr. Tatoyan’s Office said that the delegation members laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, honoring the memory of the innocent victims.

Vaccination rates significantly higher in Armed Forces than among civilians – Armenia Defense Ministry

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 19, ARMENPRESS. The vaccination rates against COVID-19 are significantly higher in the Armenian Armed Forces, than among the civilian population, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on social media.

“In response to concerns voiced by some social media users according to which a seasonal flu is widespread in the Armed Forces and, moreover, the servicemen do not get vaccinated against COVID-19, we announce that there is no reason to worry, there is no tendency of increase in number of seasonal flu or acute respiratory diseases, and the vaccinations are not only carried out, but also its rates are significantly higher than among the civilian population”, the statement says.

Russia plans to invest 1 billion dollars into Armenia’s economy

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 19, ARMENPRESS. Russia is going to invest 1 billion dollars into Armenia’s economy in the near future, Deputy minister of economic development Dmitry Volvach told reporters in Yerevan on the sidelines of the Armenian-Russian Interregional Forum.

“The trade turnover restoration rates between our countries in 2021 are not bad, 17%. This is in case when we had a 4% decline in the pandemic year. Our cooperation is developing in the field of investments, over 2.2 billion dollars jointly collected investments from Russia to Armenia. We know that there are concrete programs worth 1 billion dollars which will soon be invested into the economy of Armenia”, the Russian deputy minister of economic development said.

He added that the investments will be very important for the development of economic, social and cultural relations between Armenia and Russia.

New Ambassador of Ireland to Armenia presents copy of credentials to deputy FM

On October 18, Deputy Foreign Minister Vahe Gorgyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of Ireland to the Republic of Armenia Martina Feeney (with residence in Sofia), on the occasion of presenting the copy of her credentials, the Armenian foreign ministry said in a news release.

The Deputy Foreign Minister congratulated Martina Feeney upon assuming the responsible mission and expressed hope that the newly appointed Ambassador would further contribute to the strengthening of the Armenian-Irish relations and expanding the agenda of relations, both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

The sides reiterated mutual readiness to take steps towards intensifying the political dialogue, developing mutually beneficial cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral fields, as well as making full use of the existing potential.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister comprehensively presented the current situation around the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. In this context, the importance of a full resumption of NK peace process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs was highlighted.
