Possibility of Armenia’s joining European Migration Network with observer status discussed in Yerevan

The staff of the Migration Service of Armenia led by head Armen Ghazaryan received today the delegation of the European Migration Network (EMN) to discuss the possibility of Armenia’s joining the Network with a status of an observer, the Migration Service said in a news release.

The purpose of the European Migration Network, which was defined by the decision of the Board in 2008, is to satisfy the information needs of migration and asylum institutions and the authorities of the member states and provide impartial, reliable, fresh information aimed at supporting the policy-makers in the European Union. The Network also serves as a source of reliable information for the broad public.

The Head of the Migration Service Armen Ghazaryan expressed readiness to share the Armenian migration experience, the information about the processes and also get information about the activity, structure and experience of the Network.

“This meeting is important both for us in order to understand the advantages of joining the European Migration Network, the features of the observer status, and also for you in order to get acquainted with the Armenian experience and to be informed about our migration and asylum system”, Mr. Ghazaryan said.

EMN representative Adolfo Sommarribas also expressed readiness to establish a direct and transparent cooperation.

“Our experience shows that the closer the contacts between the partners are, the more effective the cooperation will be. Therefore, we are ready to discuss all issues and share our experience in order to create stable working ties”, Adolfo Sommarribas said.

Amid rising COVID-19 rates, Armenian health authorities again recommend remote learning in universities

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 25, ARMENPRESS. The Ministry of Healthcare has recommended the education ministry to extend the autumn break in schools over rising rates of COVID-19 infections, the Healthcare Ministry spokesperson Hripsime Khachatryan told ARMENPRESS.

“We’ve recommended universities to switch to remote education and to extend the school break for a week,” Khachatryan said.

1184 new cases of COVID-19 and 42 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Thanks to IDream – “I dream” program, all participants gain practical and theoretical vital knowledge in banking. During the program, students also get acquainted with the nuances and challenges of the sale of various products and customer service.

According to Mariana Edilyan, the Director of Human Capital Management of , the IDream program is an excellent opportunity for bachelor’s degree students to enter the banking sector and take the first practical steps in their profession. “At this stage of IDream, 7 out of 11 participants have joined us”, said Edilyan.

According to the Chairman of the Board of the Bank Mher Abrahamyan, the Bank regularly implements quality student programs. “They are especially useful for students without work experience, as well as for beginners who want to gain additional practical skills”, Abrahamyan said.

35 out of 45 students who participated in the educational programs of the Bank have already started working at .

The Bank has announced the next, fifth stage of the student educational program. From October 25, the next group of students will start their two-month journey with , at the end of which the best of them will become members of ‘s orange team.

The bank is controlled by the CBA.

Armenian, Cypriot Speakers of Parliament reaffirm readiness to strengthen cooperation

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 25, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Alen Simonyan and President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Annita Demetriou reaffirmed the bonds and cooperation between Cyprus and Armenia during a meeting in Nicosia on October 25, CyprusMail reports.

Simonyan said he was pleased with the collaboration between the two countries in international forums, stressing the importance of collaborating on an inter-parliamentary level.

“The Armenian side will do everything in its power to further deepen inter-parliamentary collaboration between our two countries, to benefit them and their peoples,” he said.

He added that during the meeting, he and Demetriou discussed issues relating to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the Cyprus problem.

Simonyan thanked the Cypriot parliament for unanimously condemning Azerbaijan’s violation of the ceasefire in Nagorno Karabakh. He also reiterated Armenia’s total support for a peaceful solution to the Cyprus problem.

“As Cyprus and Armenia are both victims of Turkey’s intransigence, it is vital that they establish stronger bonds on an inter-parliamentary, international and European level”, Demetriou said.

She also said that talks between Armenia, Cyprus and Greece will begin as soon as Simonyan’s official visit to Cyprus is over.

“Through a common strategy, we can face any challenge, big or small,” she said, “but also strengthen our voices on European and international matters so that we can put forth our common principles”.

Iranian ambassador to Armenia condemns Azerbaijan for charging tolls on cargo shipments

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 25, ARMENPRESS. The Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri condemns Azerbaijan for imposing tolls on Iranian cargo trucks passing through Azerbaijani-controlled roads in south of Armenia.

The ambassador told Tasnim News in an interview that regrettably the Iranian cargo drivers passing through Goris-Kapan road were forced to pay the tolls.

The Iranian ambassador said that according to the Russia-Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement the “situation in the transit route in southern Armenia was supposed to remain unchanged until the completion of a new route.”

He explained that the transit route has been used during the past three decades. “The Iranian trucks pay toll on arrival in Armenia, and they are not expected to pay toll a hundred kilometers ahead as well. We expected that they (Azerbaijan Republic) would stop it (road charging) until the preparation of the additional road and that no problem would arise.”

YEREVAN, 25 OCTOBER, ARMENPRESS. In the framework of official visit to Cyprus the delegation headed by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan on October 25 met with the Minister of Defense of Cyprus Charalambos Petrides.

“During the meeting the sides noted the existence of mutual understanding and support between the two countries, particularly the effective cooperation in international structures on advancing the genocide prevention agenda was especially appreciated. The unanimously adopted resolution condemning the Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh on October 9 was also mentioned.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan highly appreciated the effective cooperation between the two countries in bilateral and multilateral formats. He attached great importance to the soon launch of the Cyprus-Armenia-Greece parliamentary cooperation format, especially in the situation created after the 44-day war. “We live in a time when we need to teach our children to orientate in the digital world like in the world of real objects around us. In this regard, we greatly support this mutually initiated initiative, we believe it will be a successful example, especially given the fact that our university partners are widely involved in the scientific and educational practice of the country’s leading media’’, the director of ARMENPRESS said.

Ananayan emphasized that irrespective of the coperation memorandum, the ARMENPRESS and the YSU have a history of cooperation dating back decades ago, and the new memorandum will make that cooperation more complete, maybe give new impetus to that cooperation.

Acting YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan also attaches great importance to the development of professional journalism. He thinks that the cooperation with ARMENPRESS will be useful in that respect.

The Acting Rector hopes that as a result of the signing of the memorandum of cooperation, the cooperation between ARMENPRESS and the Faculty of Journalism will deepen and will contribute to the prepairing of more qualified staff at the faculty.
