Sports: Armenia vs Germany prediction, preview, team news and more | 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

    Nov 12 2021

Armenia are set to play Germany at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium on Sunday for a FIFA World Cup qualifying game.

Armenia come into this game on the back of a 5-0 loss to Blagoja Milevski’s North Macedonia in their most recent game. A hat-trick from Levante midfielder Enis Bardhi and goals from AaB striker Aleksandar Trajkovski and Spartak Trnava forward Milan Ristovski sealed the deal for North Macedonia.

Germany, on the other hand, beat ten-man Liechtenstein 9-0. Own goals from Eschen/Mauren defenders Daniel Kaufmann and Maximilian Goppel, braces from Bayern Munich forwards Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller and goals from Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus and Wolfsburg winger Ridle Baku secured the win for Hansi Flick’s Germany.

In four head-to-head encounters between the two sides, Germany have won all four games.

The two countries last faced each other earlier this year, with Germany beating Armenia 6-0. A brace from Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry and goals from experienced Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus, Chelsea striker Timo Werner, Borussia Monchengladbach star Jonas Hofmann and Red Bull Salzburg sensation Karim Adeyemi ensured victory for Germany.

Armenia manager Joaquin Caparros has named a strong squad. Anorthosis defender Hovhannes Hambardzumyan, Hoffenheim forward Sargis Adamyan and Boca Juniors attacker Norberto Briasco have all been included. However, the star of the team is former Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who currently plays for Serie A side Roma.

    Germany

Meanwhile, the German national team have dealt with some problems. Bayern Munich stars Niklas Sule, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry are all currently isolating after Sule tested positive for COVID-19. Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz and Freiburg centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck are both out injured.

Despite this, manager Hansi Flick has a strong squad to work with. Bayern Munich superstars like Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane have been named, alongside the Chelsea duo of Antonio Rudiger and Kai Havertz.

    Injured: Florian Wirtz, Nico Schlotterbeck

Doubtful: Niklas Sule, Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Karim Adeyemi

    Suspended: None

Armenia Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): David Yurchenko, Varazdat Haroyan, Hovhannes Hambardzumyan, Andre Calisir, Kamo Hovhannisyan, Vahan Bichakhchyan, Erik Vardanyan, Tigran Barseghyan, Aleksandr Karapetyan, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Norberto Briasco

Germany Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer, Ridle Baku, Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rudiger, David Raum, Florian Neuhaus, Ilkay Gundogan, Julian Brandt, Marco Reus, Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller

Armenia will rely heavily on the magic of Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The 32-year old is a highly creative forward who can create havoc when he is in full flow. The likes of Norberto Briasco and Tigran Barseghyan could cause problems too.

Germany, on the other hand, have begun the Hansi Flick era well. The likes of Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane have played some good football under his management, and the German national team seems to be recovering after some poor recent years.

Germany will be the favourites to win the game.

"No Nagorno-Karabakh exists" – Top Armenian, Azeri officials caught in dispute

    PanArmenian, Armenia
    Nov 12 2021

PanARMENIAN.Net – A controversy ensued between Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov during an online meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government on Friday, November 12.

In the final minutes of the meeting, Asadaov asked for an opportunity to respond to Grigoryan’s speech, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Asadov repeated the traditional theses of Baku, calling the Armenian servicemen still being held in Azerbaijan “saboteurs”. Asadov also said “there is no Nagorno-Karabakh,” but only “the Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan.”

Grigoryan then asked for the floor and noted that Armenia, unlike Azerbaijan, has fully complied with and is fulfilling the provisions of the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021.

He called on Azerbaijan to abandon its aggressive rhetoric, reiterating that the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is possible exclusively by peaceful means.

Armenian envoy: Peace an option if Baku ends atmosphere of impunity

    PanArmenian, Armenia
    Nov 12 2021

PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenia’s ambassador to the Netherlands Tigran Balayan believes that true reconciliation and peaceful coexistence between Armenians and Azerbaijanis will only be possible with the elimination of Armenophobia and the atmosphere of impunity in Azeri President Ilham Aliyev’s regime.

In an article published on Nederlands Dagblad newspaper to mark the first anniversary of the end of Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh, Babayan said that no no independent investigation into Azerbaijan’s war crimes has been carried out to date.

“Unfortunately, the European Union in general and the Netherlands in particular didn’t act sufficiently to prevent this tragedy and address its consequences including sanctioning those responsible for the atrocities until they are held accountable,” Babayan wrote.

“After the Trilateral statement on ceasefire, the corrupt and authoritarian Aliyev regime of Azerbaijan, inspired by the impunity and double standard approach, refuses to fulfill its commitments by periodically violating the ceasefire regime and shelling civilian settlements, invading Armenia, continuously erasing centuries-old Armenian heritage on the territories it currently occupies, dehumanizing Armenians through racist statements, rejecting to repatriate about many dozens Armenian PoWs. Amidst all these challenges Armenia held another free and transparent elections in June, and the Government declared the establishment of regional peace and cooperation as Armenia’s strategic goal.”

The ambassador said the Armenian side fully realizes that the path is very difficult and long, and the prerequisite is the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, “which will lead to a new era in the region and beyond.”

“We believe that the use of force and its consequences cannot be interpreted as a way to reconciliation. On the contrary, this is a very dangerous manner of thinking,” he said.

Memories of Armenia: Mother Armenia Statue

    Queen’s Gazette, NY
    Nov 11 2021

I saw this incredible statue of Mother Armenia in a pilgrimage to Armenia, including the unrecognized Armenian Republic of Nagorno- Karabakh (Artsakh) with the Church of the Holy Martyrs in Bayside, before the global pandemic.

The Mother Armenia monument is a monumental statue in Victory Park overlooking the capital city of Yerevan. Its construction started in 1950 alongside a statue of Joseph Stalin. After the death of the latter, his statue was removed and replaced in 1967 by the Mother Armenia monument. The sculptor is Ara Harutyunyan, architect Rafael lsraelyan.

The Mother Armenia statue symbolizes peace through strength. It can remind viewers of some of the prominent female figures in Armenian history, who took up arms to help their husbands in their clashes with Turkish troops and Kurdish irregulars. It also recalls the important status and value attributed to the older female members of an Armenian family

The Grave of the Unknown Soldier, next to the monument, symbolizes the eternal memory in which those who died in the war are held.

It is one year after the devastating defeat of the Armenian people in The 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Families losing their ancestral homes a human tragedy. Radio anchor/journalist of HellasFM said “one year ago I attended a Memorial service for the Heroes of Artsakh at the Holy Martyrs Apostolic Church in Bayside, NY. A generation of civilians, of young men and children were killed by Turkish drones.” Western allies of Turkey were involved in drone attacks.3  The statue of Mother Armenia gives hope to the future.

Armenian and Azerbaijani experts comment on events around Georgia’s ex-president Saakashvili

    Nov 12 2021

      JAMnews – Tbilisi

What do Azerbaijan and Armenia think about the events of the last month in Georgia, over 40 days of hunger strike of the arrested ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili and protests held by thousands of his supporters?

None of the official structures of Georgi’s neighboring countries have ever made any comments about the ongoing events. JAMnews invited political analysts in Armenia and Azerbaijan to comment on the situation.

“The lack of reaction from the Azerbaijani authorities to what is happening in Georgia should be viewed from the prism of the country’s foreign policy. With the exception of Armenia, with which Azerbaijan has special relations, the country’s authorities have never commented on events in neighboring and friendly countries.

Azerbaijan also lacks the practice of establishing relations with the opposition in neighboring countries. Azerbaijani authorities prefer to work with governments.

As for the situation in Georgia itself, it raises serious concerns. For many years this neighboring country has been a stronghold of democracy in the region. This concerns the period of Mikheil Saakashvili’s presidency and the period when he peacefully transferred power to the newly elected authorities.

But what is happening now in this country takes it far from democracy. Clashes with the opposition, falsification of election results, especially in the second round of the recent municipal elections – all this is not consistent with the democratic image of this country.

The attitude of the authorities to the politician, who was the president of this country, is completely unacceptable. They are trying to humiliate him by all available means, they fraudulently transferred him to another prison – all conditions are created to risk his life, despite the fact that the ex-president went on a hunger strike.

It’s no secret that Aliyev and Saakashvili had personal, friendly relations and it is quite possible that consultations are being conducted through closed channels.

But I, like the Georgian opposition, expect more decisive actions from the United States and the European Union. These Western powers have a much greater influence on politics in Georgia than neighboring countries. Yes, the West has already expressed its concern about what is happening, but a more categorical opinion and intervention would be appropriate”.

    • MEP Von Cramon: Georgia’s ruling party has never been further away from EU membership

“I believe that the situation in Georgia is an internal affair of Georgia, official Yerevan has no reason to interfere and express any position. The stability in Georgia is always an important factor for Armenia, which the country regularly states.

For a long time now, Georgia has a very difficult internal political situation. We can only hope that the development of events in Georgia will not reach any destabilizing scenario, because this circumstance is extremely important for Armenia”.

“What is happening in Georgia is logical, it is a continuation of the internal political processes in Georgia in recent years.

It is unnecessary to talk about the reaction on the part of Armenia, since these are the internal affairs of Georgia. If you remember, a few days ago Nika Gvaramia turned to Navalny and Pashinyan, saying that Georgia was waiting for a response to the Saakashvili case. I think it right to remind Nika Gvaramia that there are two court decisions related to Saakashvili, and there are trials in several cases.

In addition, Saakashvili returned to Georgia illegally, I do not think that one can expect that anyone would have any questions about his arrest.

Let me remind you that Europe and the United States did not officially obstruct or did not try to prevent the arrest of Saakashvili. However, today there are concerns about his safety and health.

The Armenian-Georgian relations have been quite dynamic in recent years and are yielding quite positive results. I don’t think it is necessary for Armenian authorities to interfere and complicate the Armenian-Georgian relations”.
