Opposition ‘With Honor’ legislature faction MP: No one knows if Armenia petitioned to Russia for military assistance

The representatives of the political majority in the National Assembly had no reason to raise anti-Russian hysteria, as Armenia has not petitioned to the Russian Federation, in writing, for military assistance. Hayk Mamijanyan, secretary of the opposition “With Honor” Faction in the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, noted this Friday during the traditional press briefings at the NA.

“I would understand that hysteria if a corresponding written appeal was made to the Russian Federation, which would be left without their attention in the future. However, in the absence of a [respective] document and in the case of non-compliance with the relevant procedures, the logic of aggressive statements is incomprehensible to me personally,” Mamijanyan explained.

At the same time, the opposition MP noted that the Armenian analysts, other fellow opposition lawmakers, and the parliamentarians of the ruling party also do not know whether or not an official petition was made to Russia.

“Russia plays a key role in establishing peace in the region. Besides, the strengthening of our army is impossible without the assistance by our strategic partner,” Hayk Mamijanyan stressed.

Arabologist: Photo of map of Turkic world shown by Erdogan and Bahceli is simply a gift for Armenian diplomacy

Nov 19 2021

The photo of a map of the Turkic World shown by leaders of the Turkey’s ruling coalition Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Devlet Bahceli is simply a gift for Armenian diplomacy to shape solidarity abroad in order to disrupt the Turkish-Azerbaijani “Zangezur corridor” project. This is what Arabologist Armen Petrosyan wrote on his Facebook page today.

“This map, which is considered the peak of objectification of the pan-Turkism ideology, clearly outlines all the countries and directions with respect to which #Ankara has led a targeted policy for years, and in the future, it will lead this policy more actively in order to implement the “Great #Turan” or “Turkic axis” program in the current conditions. The map features territories from the Balkan peninsula, #Russia, #Iran, #China, #Mongolia, parts of #Syria, #Iraq, and includes Turkic-speaking countries (#Azerbaijan, #Kazakhstan, #Kyrgyzstan, #Uzbekistan). And, most importantly, the key to this plan is in Syunik Province of Armenia — the alleged “Zangezur corridor”, which is called for ensuring unobstructed connection between all the sections of the plan.

The only thing Armenian diplomats, Armenians lobbying abroad and their partners need is to have in their smartphones the photo attached to the Facebook post and the map of Armenia and, during their work-related conversations and in their public speeches, clarify, with substantiated, that Armenia, weakened after the war, is incapable of suspending the prospective Turkic plan that may pose a threat to all the countries indicated on the map at the same time or in sequence in the visible future, based on the examples of seizure of #Artsakh and the possible seizure of the “Zangezur corridor”.”

Armenian Embassy in Russia: Armenia citizens – mother and child – evacuated from Afghanistan

It turns out that the two citizens of Armenia evacuated from Afghanistan are representatives of a mixed family, that is, mother and child, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Embassy of Armenia in the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Friday reported that the planes transporting citizens of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia and Afghanistan evacuated from Kabul, landed at the airport in Chkalovsk, which is near Moscow. The evacuation was organized by Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, by the assignment of President Vladimir Putin.

“This is a mixed family that resides in Russia. The mother and child are citizens of Armenia. The spouse is a citizen of Afghanistan. The mother and child had left for Afghanistan, and later, they stayed there due to the dire situation. Now they have been evacuated,” the Embassy of Armenia reported.

NEWS.am’s special report: Drive from Kapan to Tchakatashen is 150 km instead of previous 8 km

Nov 19 2021

Citizens of Armenia need to travel 150 km instead of the previous 8 km to travel from Kapan to Tchakaten, meaning they need to travel from Kapan to Meghri and then to Tchakaten. After the Azerbaijanis set up a customs point on the Kapan-Tchakaten road, six villages are no longer directly connected to Kapan.

The alternative road, which is talked about, is impassable, and no driver takes that road. Armenian News-NEWS.am’s correspondent tried to find a driver who would go to Tchakaten via that road, but in vain.

Armenian News-NEWS.am’s crew took the trip from Kapan to Meghri, but there was no transport from Meghri to Tchakaten, and the minimum price for a taxi is AMD 20,000.

The first village on the road from Meghri to Tchakaten is Tsav, which is also no longer directly linked to Kapan. “We’re waiting for the road to open soon, and we’re not panicking since panic will make us want to be evacuated. We’re psychologically and physically ready for this,” a resident of Tsav said. Another resident noted that if they [the authorities] knew that this road was going to be shut down, they should have launched construction of the alternative road earlier.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. The Ministry of Defense is denying media reports which claimed that during the November 14 Azerbaijani attempts to advance into Armenia from the eastern border the Armenian military had taken 6 Azerbaijani troops captive but then secretly returned them.

“This has absolutely nothing to do with reality,” the Ministry of Defense told ARMENPRESS when asked to comment. “It is more than obvious that in such a situation the Armenian side would at least conduct an adequate exchange of captives.”

 15:30,

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. Many issues in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict context remain unresolved, but there can be no military solution, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Mission to the OSCE Courtney Austrian said at the session of the OSCE Permanent Council.

She welcomed Ambassador Andrew Schofer, Ambassador Igor Khovaev, and Ambassador Brice Roquefeuil, Co-Chairs of the Minsk Group, together with the Chairpersonship’s Personal Representative, Ambassador Kasprzyk, to the Permanent Council, stating the United States attaches great importance to their continued work.

“We are committed to helping the sides find comprehensive solutions to all remaining issues related to or resulting from the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. We thank all of you, including the head of the High-Level Planning Group, for your astute reports and updates”, Courtney Austrian said. “Since your last appearance at the Permanent Council in November 2020, the situation on the ground had stabilized but remained fragile. This week underscored that fragility. We regret that Armenian and Azerbaijani troops clashed along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and that this violence resulted in casualties. These recent events give fresh urgency to the need for a comprehensive settlement. We call on both Armenia and Azerbaijan to uphold their ceasefire commitments and take immediate steps to deescalate tensions, as well as to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and provocative actions and or statements”.

She encouraged the sides to build on the progress made during the joint meetings of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan held under the auspices of the Co-Chairs in New York and Paris, by continuing to engage in direct dialogue aimed at contributing to security, stability, and prosperity in the region. “We also urge the sides to investigate all allegations of human rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law”, she added.

Courtney Austrian welcomed Ambassador Kasprzyk’s and his team’s efforts to promote transparency and confidence among the sides.

“Many issues in the conflict context remain unresolved, but there can be no military solution. The United States is committed to working with the sides to find a lasting and peaceful resolution based on the principles, recognized by all participating States, of non-use or threat of force, territorial integrity, and equal rights and self-determination of peoples, as embraced in the Helsinki Final Act”, she said.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan had a meeting today with Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov, Pashinyan’s Office told Armenpress.

Akylbek Japarov arrived in Armenia for participation to the session of the Eurasian Inter-governmental Council on November 18-19.

“Welcome in Armenia. I would like to personally congratulate you on your appointment as the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan. I hope and I am confident that with joint efforts we will manage to continue developing the relations between our countries.

Of course, we participate in the activities of common organizations, that is the Eurasian Economic Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, our countries are members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

And of course, our bilateral relations are very important for us, and we highly appreciate them. I hope we will manage to develop also these relations and especially boost the commercial ties. Once again congratulations and welcome in Armenia”, Pashinyan told the Kyrgyz PM.

In turn the Kyrgyz PM thanked Pashinyan for the welcome and said: “The level of commercial relations between our countries was not so perfect in the past two years under the conditions of the pandemic, but the rates of the past 6-9 months show that we are starting to boost them. However, the overall volume of the trade turnover, so to speak, is small.

I would like to discuss with you the trade-economic cooperation and issues relating to our partnership in the organizations you mentioned, both in the economy and the CSTO in order to be able to assist one another both in difficult and good times”.

The officials, then, continued discussing the agenda of the Armenian-Kyrgyz relations and the cooperation development prospects.
