The Bus Of Shame: Azerbaijan advertises on Thessaloniki bus its occupation of Shushi

Nov 24 2021
by ATHENS BUREAU

Azerbaijan is using every means at their disposal to normalise and promote their occupation of the Armenian city of Shushi, which they call Shusha (Şuşa).

Thessaloniki was not spared from this propaganda effort, with a bus in Greece’s second city promoting Azerbaijan’s occupation of Shushi.

Such a challenge did not escape the attention of the Armenian community in Greece, who asked authorities to remove the advertisements, something which was done without hesitation.

Although the advertisement has been removed, it does bring into question why it was ever allowed to be displayed.

The Azeri military captured the historic Armenian city of Shushi from local forces on November 8, 2020 during last year’s Nagorno-Karabakh War.

Although a historically Armenian city, Shushi had a mixed Armenian-Azeri population until the Shushi pogrom of 1920 when Azerbaijani forces destroyed the Armenian half of the city and killed or expulsed its Armenian population of around 20,000 people.

Due to the strategic advantage of the city, which directly overlooks the Nagorno-Karabakh capital of Stepanakert, the capture of Shushi became a decisive moment in the war, especially as Armenia surrendered and Azerbaijan declared victory a few days later.

Pashinyan fails to clearly state whether Armenia applied to Russia and CSTO in writing in regard to Nov. 16 attack

During his online press conference, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan didn’t give a clear answer to Armdaily.am’s question whether Armenia has applied to Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) through a written procedure in order for the country and the CSTO to fulfill the obligations laid down in the relevant treaty and whether Russia and the CSTO are fulfilling those obligations before Armenia.

“I don’t know if the news has been released, but Armenia has applied to the Russian Federation and the CSTO in regard to the situation created on May 12 of this year. The event that took place on November 16 is part of the events of May 12 — the Azerbaijani Armed Forces invaded the territory of Armenia, and we continue the discussions, and Armenia will consistently protect its rights in all instances.

Armenia won’t accept the policy of coercion. Armenia is a sovereign state. During the session of the Security Council, I expressed the will of our government and people to protect the sovereignty, independence and statehood of Armenia, and yes, also democracy. I believe we need to provide solutions. However, Armenia won’t act under coercion. We will use all the international formats and leverages to protect our rights,” Pashinyan said.

PM: Armenia decides road through which communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan will be ensured

Armenia is not only ready, but is also interested in the unblocking of communications in the region since this is an opportunity for unblocking for Armenia. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated during today’s online press conference.

“The next issue is the issue of routes, which contains quite a lot of subtleties. If this takes place within the scope of sovereignty, and Armenia says it is ready to ensure a road between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan, excuse me, but Armenia decides the road through which communication will be ensured. Azerbaijan won’t be the one deciding how to enter and how to exit. However, Armenia is interested in the restoration of railway and automobile communications,” he said.

According to Pashinyan, in this case, this is about the Turkey-Azerbaijan communication, not Nakhchivan. “Basically, this is a large international road. This is a new international road, and the passage through Armenia needs to be in Armenia’s interest. I don’t understand certain analyses on why Armenia needs to refuse to give a road. Today, all countries are fighting to make sure roads, railways, natural gas pipelines and oil pipelines pass through their territories so that cargo is transferred through those territories as soon as possible. Armenia says it is interested in the opening of a railway, and not only the Nakhchivan-Meghri-Horadiz railway, but also the Kars-Gyumri railway from which Armenia will also benefit since it will have railway communication with Europe, Russia and Iran,” the premier emphasized.

Armenian PM: 40-45 square kilometer territories of Armenia under Azerbaijani control after Azerbaijan’s May 12 attack

Yes, after November 10, 2020, those territories, more than 40-45 square kilometers of territories, to be exact, are under Azerbaijan’s control, and this is the Azerbaijani invasion of the territory of Armenia on May 12 of this year which the international community has condemned rather unequivocally. This is what Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan declared during today’s online press conference, touching upon Informacian Komite informational and non-governmental organization’s question whether sovereign territories of Armenia have been under Azerbaijan’s control after November 10, 2020, and if yes, how the balance has changed.

“That’s exactly what Armenia is saying. The aggression needs to be stopped, we need to present this issue at all international instances and pursue and demand that the international community exerts pressure on Azerbaijan so that the aggression is stopped,” Pashinyan stated.

“Overall, we talked about security, as well as the topics that the Prime Minister discussed yesterday. We held a discussion, made recommendations, which were accepted. It was a normal conversation. The premier made his proposals, talked about the corridor and told us to forget about it and added that the government will not grant a corridor. We talked about our cooperation, and the premier said we will work together, regardless of what political party we are affiliated to,” he said.

The rally organized by the “Liberation Movement” initiating group kicked off today at 6:30 p.m. at Republic Square in Yerevan.

The members of the movement have presented three demands, including the following:

1. To prevent the anti-Armenian plan for delimitation and demarcation, and to disclose the documents submitted for signing;

2. To disallow the provision of a corridor to the enemy;

3. To demand that the Armenian authorities fully arm the frontline and protect the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.

Co-founder of the movement, leader of the “5165 National-Conservative Movement” political party Karin Tonoyan declared that they will fight for victory within the country and beyond its borders and said she is certain that they will definitely achieve victory.

“We are asked why we don’t go to the military posts, and I say I am personally ready to go to the military posts and kill at least one Turk, this will be my revenge for my son’s death,” Tonoyan said and called on Armenian historians, writers, artists and the parents of soldiers to join the movement and their struggle.

“We have a lot to say, but we don’t want to make people tired. Different people need to join the movement and give speeches,” Tonoyan stated.

Under the leadership of the initiating group, the participants of the rally are currently marching through the major streets of Yerevan, calling on citizens to join the movement and stressing that the movement is apolitical and stands above political parties.

Analyst: Iran’s accession to EEU will create serious counterbalance to Turkey and strengthen Armenia’s positions

News.am, Armenia
Nov 24 2021

Iran’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union will create a serious counterbalance to Turkey. This is what President of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia Gagik Makaryan said during a conversation with Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Since Iran is currently under sanctions, Turkey is reselling Iranian goods in its name. Most of the goods sold in Turkey are manufactured in Iran. Turkey doesn’t have the potential that it tries to show. Acceding to the Eurasian Economic Union will allow Iran to sell its products. Also, the United States is easing sanctions against Iran, and this will further strengthen Armenia’s positions. Iran’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union will help increase trade with Iran from $400,000,000 to $1,000,000,000, and there are a lot of talks about this,” he emphasized.

Makaryan noted that this will help increase Armenia’s transit potential since Iranian goods may be sent to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union through Armenian territory.

“In this case, Iran will be interested in establishing production in Armenia in order to facilitate the entry of its goods into the markets of third countries,” he added.

Armenia has acquired a Pegasus spy program, which carries out illegal wiretapping. At least two people have already been warned by Apple that they are being listened to.

Security expert Ruben Muradyan said on his Facebook page that a spy program operates on two people’s cell phones in Armenia.

“Apple started sending warning emails to Pegasus victims. There are at least 2 persons in Armenia, who received it tonight,” he noted.

Earlier, we reported that Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan had purchased a $ 7 million Pegasus system. In other countries, this system is used in foreign intelligence to eavesdrop on those who threaten the security of the country.

Pegasus is spyware developed by the Israeli company NSO Group.

The Pegasus program has been used for cyber-attacks on opposition activists and journalists around the world. A few months ago, we also published the stories of several news organizations about the Pegasus spy program.
