Tareq Alnassar, OPEC Fund Assistant Director-General, Private Sector and Trade Finance Operations, talks about OPEC Fund’s partnership with Ameriabank, projects implemented by the fund,private sector support and the SME development strategy of the Armenian government.

“Ameriabank is a pioneer bank. It’s a market leader. And of course this comes with the huge responsibility. So, they set the standard, they set the stage for other banks to come later on. I think last year they issued the green bond. This is a precedent, I think this is really a landmark for the country and for the financial sector”. – said Mr. Alnassar in an interview.

United States welcomes resumption of direct dialogue between governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. The United States welcomes the resumption of direct dialogue between the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in his remarks at the OSCE Ministerial Council in Stockholm on December 2.

“In the Caucasus, we do welcome the resumption of direct dialogue between the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan, and we urge them to make progress on humanitarian issues including detainees, demining, missing persons, with investigations of alleged human rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law with the perpetrators held accountable. And I hope there, we can all work together including with Russia to continue to make progress”, Secretary Blinken said. “We urge all parties to resolve other outstanding issues like border delimitation and demarcation, the restoration of economic and transport links, and to continue to engage with the Minsk Group co-chairs for a lasting peaceful end to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict”.

On December 2, 2021, the Signing Ceremony of the Grant Contracts for “The Project for Enhancing Waste Management Capacity and Promoting Recycling in Armavir City” in the amount ofUSD 82,603and “The Project for Improving Sanitary Conditions at Public School in Mets Parni village” in the amount of USD 68,059 within the framework of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects was held at the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia.

The Grant Contract for “The Project for Enhancing Waste Management Capacity and Promoting Recycling in Armavir City” was signed between Mr. FUKUSHIMA Masanori, Ambassador of Japan to Armenia and Dr. Mkhitar Avetisyan, President of “Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Development of Communities (ISSD)” NGO. The Grant Contract for “The Project for Improving Sanitary Conditions at Public School in Mets Parni village” was signed between Mr. FUKUSHIMA and Ms. Arevik Hovsepyan, President of “Country Water Partnership Scientific Ecological” NGO. The Ceremony was further attended byMr. Vache Terteryan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Khachatur Mkrtchyan, Acting Head of Armavir Community, Mr. Eduard Mesropyan, Director of “Jinj” LLC (Design Company).

“The Project for Enhancing Waste Management Capacity and Promoting Recycling in Armavir City” aims to improve solid waste management system in Armavir region and near villages by installing 220 waste sorting bins in the city of Armavir/villages and recycling the collected waste. The collected waste will be transformed into useful stationary, part of which will be provided to the first graders free of charge. As a result, more than 35,000 people will benefit from the Project.

“The Project for Improving Sanitary Conditions at Public School in Mets Parni village” aims to increase the level of healthcare, educating on the sanitary and hygienic rules and treated water reuse among schoolchildren in Mets Parni. The Project plans full restoration of three toilets at Mets Parni school and construction of a compact wastewater treatment plant, using the treated wastewater for garden irrigation. As a result, more than 240 people will benefit from the Project.

EUR exchange rate up by 0.44 drams to 553.13 drams. Russian Ruble exchange rate up by 0.01 drams to 6.61 drams. GBP exchange rate up by 1.23 drams to 650.83 drams.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Gold price down by 207.78 drams to 28101.31 drams. Silver price up by 0.30 drams to 359.03 drams. Platinum price up by 62.90 drams to 14873.24 drams.

Armenian FM meets CSTO counterparts in Stockholm

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Meeting of the CSTO foreign ministers coordinated by Armenian foreign minister Ararat Mirzoyan was held on December 2 on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Stockholm, the Armenian foreign ministry said.

During the meeting the CSTO foreign ministers discussed the agenda of the OSCE Ministerial Council.

FM Mirzoyan highlighted the strengthening of the cooperation between the CSTO states within the OSCE, based on the OSCE’s comprehensive security concept and in accordance with the CSTO allied commitments.

The Armenian FM introduced his counterparts on the latest developments connected with the regional security. He emphasized the necessity of making efforts aimed at the de-escalation of the situation in the region.

As for Armenia’s chairmanship priorities in the CSTO, the minister highlighted improving the CSTO tools, including the crisis response tools.

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a productive meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Stockholm, ARMENPRESS reports the Armenian Foreign Minister wrote on its Twitter microblog.

“A productive meeting was held with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The need for full resumption of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs was stressed during the meeting”, FM Mirzoyan said during the meeting.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan paid a working visit to Stockholm on December 1-3 to participate in the 28th OSCE Ministerial Conference. The Foreign Minister will have a number of bilateral meetings within the framework of the visit. In particular, a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov is possible.

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Stockholm on a working visit, met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on December 2.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the MFA Armenia, the interlocutors praised the current level and development dynamics of the Armenia-US political dialogue.

Ararat Mirzoyan expressed satisfaction with the US support to the democratic development in Armenia, the strengthening of the capacities of state structures, the rule of law and the fight against corruption. Antony Blinken expressed the full support of the American side for the process of democratic reforms in Armenia.

Ararat Mirzoyan praised the US resolute position on the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition. In this context, referring to President Joe Biden’s statement recognizing the Armenian Genocide last year, the Foreign Minister stressed that in this way the United States reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of human rights, values and principles of humanity.

The parties also discussed issues related to international and regional security and stability. In this context, Ararat Mirzoyan presented to the US Secretary of State the situation created as a result of the recent invasion of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and the aggression against the territorial integrity of Armenia. In this context, the interlocutors highlighted the steps aimed at de-escalating the situation.

The Nagorno Karabakh conflict was discussed in detail at the meeting. In the context of the urgent humanitarian issues caused by the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, the need to repatriate Armenian prisoners of war, hostages and other detainees was addressed.

FM Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Blinken stressed the need for a full resumption of the peace process aimed at the comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. The role of the United States as a Co-chair country was also emphasized

Armenian Defense Minister, US Ambassador discuss issues related to border situation and security

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Ministry of Defense, Ambassador Tracy congratulated Suren Papikyan on the occasion of assuming the position and wished success in further activities.

During the meeting issues related to border situation and security were discussed. The Minister of Defense presented the present situation at the border and the approaches of the Armenian side of solving the issues.
