Chairman of "Yerkrapah": There will be big changes in the near future

Arminfo, Armenia
March 5 2020

ArmInfo. The change of the Minister of Defense in Artsakh does not mean that Karen Abrahamyan was not effective in his service, just a change of personnel has taken a  place.  Chairman  of the “Yerkrapah” Union of Volunteers (YUV), MP  Sasun Mikaelyan announced on March 5 in an interview with reporters.

He noted that a good minister was replaced by a better one. Mikaelyan  noted that when Karen Abrahamyan was the NKR Minister of Defense, the  army was in very good fighting condition. According to Mikaelyan,  Jalal Harutyunyan is a very successful soldier. “And personnel  changes are inevitable, and in various areas,” the MP noted.

To the question that there has been talk recently that the YUV may be  included in the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, Mikaelyan noted that  he did not want to disclose all the details of this issue. ” Only  time will tell, but I believe that “Yerkrapah” should be a reserve of  the Ministry of Defense. At the first order, we will be at the  forefront. There will be big changes in the near future,” the MP  said.

When asked if “Yerkrapah “is being replenished with new personnel,  Mikaelyan said: “Of course, we have new personnel. We must replenish  our ranks and support the army. Persons who have completed compulsory  military service can apply for membership. Moreover, we do not want  to interfere with the army’s resources. People over 45 years old are  accepted into our ranks, today we have people who can defend their  homeland with arms in their hands.

YEREVAN, MARCH 5, ARMENPRESS. A discussion over the situation in Syria’s Idlib, namely on the Turkish military intervention, escalated into a brawl and fistfight in Turkey’s parliament.

The brawl was seemingly sparked after an opposition lawmaker from CHP party called Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a “traitor”.

The clash on Wednesday started when Engin Ozkoc of the opposition Republican People’s Party took the rostrum. During a news conference shortly before, Ozkoc called Erdogan “dishonorable, ignoble, low and treacherous,” according to AP.

During a speech to members of his party, Erdogan himself had accused the opposition earlier of being “dishonorable, ignoble, low and treacherous” for questioning Turkey’s military involvement in Syria’s northwest Idlib province.

The opposition and ruling parties began exchanging bitter words and it quickly escalated into a physical brawl.

YEREVAN, MARCH 5, ARMENPRESS. The first and by far only coronavirus patient’s wife who is quarantined for already 4 days continues testing negative for the virus, Minister of Healthcare Arsen Torosyan said at the Cabinet meeting.

He said that so far no new cases of the virus were recorded in the country and that all preventive measures continue being carried out.

“We have the one confirmed case, who is hospitalized at the Nork Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yerevan, and 31 citizens who are quarantined in special isolation conditions in Tsakhkadzor. All of them are feeling well, no one has any symptoms, including the confirmed patient. Yesterday we tested his wife, who tested negative for the disease. That is, this virus – being a contagious disease –  we see on our own practice that it isn’t highly contagious,” Torosyan said.

The patient is a 29-year-old man who traveled to Iran with his wife. His wife had tested negative once again during the first day of quarantine.

Torosyan said 161 suspected cases have been tested so far, and all results came back negative. He said the country can carry on with its normal life as the situation is under control.

PM Nikol Pashinyan asked about the quarantined citizens who are kept at the Golden Palace previously defunct hotel in the resort town of Tsakhkadzor. Pashinyan asked whether the citizens are provided with everything they need. Torosyan said the quarantined citizens have everything they need, including internet access and books to read. They will be kept in quarantine until March 14.

Torosyan said that the COVID19 infections and death rate in China is dropping. “However the situation is worsening in other countries, in South Korea, Iran, Italy, and a few hundred more cases have been confirmed in France and Germany. In Georgia and Russia the situation is better and it is expected that if European countries are able to carry out accurate measures we will see decrease in these countries two or three weeks after the peak,” he said.
