‘Her brother finally agreed to have her buried beside their parents’: Director of Eternal Memory in Gyumri

Aravot, Armenia

The 42-year-old woman, Marine, who was murdered by her 28-year-old boyfriend at her home in the Textile Workers neighborhood in Gyumri was buried by the local and regional authorities.

Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Lena Nazaryan and Nikol Pashinyan’s press speaker Mane Gevorgyan were also present.

Despite the fact that the woman had many relatives, no one came to her funeral. Even more, her relatives objected to having her buried at that particular cemetery. They did not agree to have her buried near the family graves.

The acting director of the Eternal Memory CJSC, Artyom Davtyan, told Aravot Daily that Marine’s brother lives in Russia. The brother’s classmate was able to get into contact with him and got his permission to bury his sister next to their parents at the Shirak cemetery.

“The brother was upset and embarrassed, but his classmate convinced him, saying that this is his sister, his family member, and the grave has already been set aside. The brother gave his permission and said to bury her next to their parents. But I did not have any contact with her late husband’s family. According to my sources, her late husband’s sister called the regional government and asked them not to bury the woman next to her brother. If no one agreed, the municipality had found a place, which is where they would have buried her,” Artyom Davtyan said.

The funeral took place with a priest presiding. Those present said that the woman was a victim of indifference. Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Lena Nazaryan noted that the woman was not only the victim of an abuser, but she also was the victim of people’s indifference. If her neighbors, relatives, and daughter’s teachers spoke out about the violence, perhaps this would have been prevented.

MEGHRI, MARCH 10, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says Armenia doesn’t have a Constitutional Court in accordance with the Constitution.

“Unlike the previous one when the member of the Constitutional Court was in office for life, now the term of office of the CC judges is 12 years. Unlike the previous one, the CC President is not elected by Parliament, but by the Court itself from its judges. The term of office of the CC President is set at 6 years, compared to the previous term of office for life. This model was formed in the Constitution of Armenia, and this Constitution at this moment is in force by 100%. We have a Constitutional Court described in the Constitution, but we don’t have a Constitutional Court in accordance with what is described there”, Pashinyan said in Meghri town during the campaign for YES vote in the upcoming referendum on Constitutional amendments.

Head of the ruling My Step faction of the parliament Lilit Makunts said holding this referendum has several reasons, and the future of each citizen will be determined with this referendum. “According to the new constitution procedure currently there are 2 CC judges, the remaining 7 judges are holding office for life. Taking into account this fact, the My Step faction launched a constitutional referendum to improve this situation from legal perspective. There are also suspicions that these 7 judges are not independent and are under the influence of certain persons and groups. This is the matter of the future of each citizen of Armenia because all of us are somehow dealing with courts”, she said.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today started the campaign for YES vote in the upcoming referendum which is scheduled on April 5. The PM started his campaign from Syunik province. He is accompanied by his spouse Anna Hakobyan, Minister of education Arayik Harutyunyan, Minister of territorial administration Suren Papikyan and My Step faction head Lilit Makunts. The April 5 referendum proposes to suspend the powers of the President and 6 judges of the Constitutional Court.

 14:28,

YEREVAN, MARCH 10, ARMENPRESS. During today’s campaign for the YES vote in the upcoming referendum on Constitutional amendments, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan introduced the residents of Kajaran town on the reason of suspending the powers of 7 members of the Constitutional Court through the referendum.

“The problem linked with Hrayr Tovmasyan [President of the Constitional Court] is clear. The problem linked with the other members of the Constitutional Court is that recently the Parliament petitioned to file disciplinary proceedings against CC President Hrayr Tovmasyan. The Constitutional Court examined that issue and stated that despite that it is allowed to file such a disciplinary proceeding by the Constitution and laws, but, in my interpretation, petition is possible when we ourselves form a disciplinary proceeding and record the violation. This means that the Constitutional Court refuses to fulfill its functions and deprives the next branches of power of fulfilling such functions”, the PM said.

Pashinyan said only one subject can give an assessment to these actions of the Constitutional Court, and that is the people of Armenia.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today started the campaign for YES vote in the upcoming referendum which is scheduled on April 5. The PM started his campaign from Syunik province.
