The sixth EU-Armenia Subcommittee on energy, transport, environment, climate action and civil protection took place on 11-12 March and discussed EU-Armenia cooperation in the context of the EU “Green Deal”, which aims for Europe to become a carbon-neutral continent by 2050, the EU Delegation to Armenia told Armenpress.

The Subcommittee also took stock of Armenia’s progress in approximation to EU standards under the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement in the fields covered by the Subcommittee, including areas where further work is scheduled with EU support in the form of technical and financial assistance. Because of the current coronavirus pandemic, the meeting took place by video link between Yerevan and Brussels.

The Armenian delegation was led by Mr Hakob Vardanyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure; the EU side was led by Mr Richard Tibbels, Head of Division of the European External Action Service. For the first time, the subcommittee meeting was followed by more in-depth EU-Armenia expert consultations as agreed by the EU-Armenia Partnership Committee in November 2019. These first consultations concerned the fields of air and water quality.

Armenia appoints new Ambassador to Brazil

YEREVAN, MARCH 13, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian signed a decree on relieving Ashot Galoyan from the position of Armenia’s Ambassador to Brazil and Columbia, the Presidential Office told Armenpress.

According to the President’s another decree, Arman Hakobyan was appointed Ambassador to Brazil and Columbia (residence in Brasilia).

The President signed the respective decrees based on the prime minister’s proposal.

Azerbaijani military opens cross-border heavy machine gun fire at Armenia troops

YEREVAN, MARCH 13, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijani troops opened heavy machine gun fire across the Armenia border (Ijevan area) in the direction of Armenian combat positions around 12:00-12:30, March 13, Defense Ministry spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan told ARMENPRESS.

“There are no damages or victims as a result of the shooting,” she said, adding that the Azerbaijani ceasefire violation stopped after Armenia’s response shots.

She said that Azerbaijani media reports on Armenia having opened fire in the direction of Abbasbeyli village are false. “Armenian Armed Forces remain committed to the adopted tactics and do not fire in the direction of settlements”.

Artsakh’s President chairs consultation on actions to fight novel coronavirus

STEPANAKERT, MARCH 13, ARMENPRESS. Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan convened today an enlarged consultation to discuss the activities being carried out by the Interdepartmental Commission to combat the new coronavirus, the Presidential Office told Armenpress.

The President drew the attention of the attendees to the importance of consistent conduct of preventive measures and permanent control over the epidemic situation in the republic.

The Head of the State also emphasized the need for regularly informing the population on the current situation and infection by the relevant state bodies.

Artsakh Republic Minister of State Grigory Martirosyan, Security Council Secretary Arshavir Gharamyan and other officials participated in the consultation.

Five suspected cases of coronavirus pending test results in Vanadzor

YEREVAN, MARCH 13, ARMENPRESS. Five people in the town of Vanadzor have been taken to the local infectious diseases hospital over coronavirus fears after showing “some symptoms”, Healthcare ministry spokesperson Alina Nikoghosyan told ARMENPRESS.

“Samples have been taken for testing”, she said.

“People from different parts of Armenia might get quarantined because we already have confirmed cases. We are aware of each and every one, but there is no sense in disclosing it,” she said.

As of March 13, there are 8 cases of the novel coronavirus in Armenia.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Yerevan’s infectious diseases hospital designated coronavirus-only, both suspected and confirmed

YEREVAN, MARCH 13, ARMENPRESS. Yerevan’s Nork Infectious Diseases hospital has been re-organized and designated as a hospital for receiving only novel coronavirus cases – both suspected and confirmed, the healthcare ministry announced in a statement.

“Patients with all other infectious diseases have been transported to other hospitals”, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also called on the general public not to obstruct the hospital’s work, not to film outside the facility by respecting the privacy and medical confidentially of patients.

 

As of March 13, there are 8 cases of the novel coronavirus in Armenia.

Charter flight to carry Armenians from Italy to Armenia on March 15

YEREVAN, MARCH 13, ARMENPRESS.  The Armenian Atlantis European Airways will conduct a charter flight from Rome to Yerevan on March 15 at 18:30 by Rome time for the Armenian citizens in Italy wishing to return, ARMENPRESS reports the Embassy of Armenia in Italy informed.

“During the flight the passengers will be provided with masks and other health security measures will be implemented. Our citizens who will return by that flight will be quarantined for 14 days”, reads the statement issued by the Embassy.
