YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus around the world, the Armenian Embassy in Kazakhstyan urges Armenian nationals to be in constant contact with the Embassy.

“Taking into account the current situation caused by the spread of the new coronavirus in the world, the Embassy of Armenia in Kazakhstan proposes to be in constant contact with the Embassy, as well as urges the citizens of Armenia, who are in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on temporary or permanent residence, to send their contact information (first name, last name, residence place, phone number) to the Embassy’s e-mail [email protected]. There is also a hotline (+7 778 229 18 81)”, the Embassy said in a statement on Facebook.

At the same time, the Embassy also asks to follow the calls and advises of the Armenian healthcare ministry or the Kazakh and Kyrgyz authorities.

Armenia’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan is also serving concurrently as Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, with the residence in Nur-Sultan.

COVID19: Passengers on board Rome-Yerevan March 10 flight show no symptoms

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. All passengers who arrived to Yerevan on board a Ryanair flight from Rome, Italy on March 10 showed no signs of infectious diseases upon screening, healthcare authorities announced.  The Healthcare and Labor Inspection Agency said their personnel carried out disinfection and screening.

The agency said all arrivals to Armenia are filling in address cards which are forwarded to district clinics for further monitoring of their health condition.

Earlier the healthcare ministry issued a travel warning amid the novel coronavirus outbreak against Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, China, Iran and South Korea.  Armenian nationals arriving from these countries are advised to avoid contacts and self-quarantine for 14 days.  The Ministry of Healthcare said heightened monitoring and screening is being carried out at the Yerevan airport.

OSCE Mission conducts ceasefire monitoring at Artsakh-Azerbaijan line of contact

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. On March 11, in accordance with the arrangement reached with the authorities of the Republic of Artsakh, the OSCE Mission conducted a planned monitoring of the ceasefire regime on the border of Artsakh and Azerbaijan, in the south-east of Akna, the foreign ministry of Artsakh told Armenpress.

From the positions of the Defense Army of the Republic of Artsakh, the monitoring was conducted by Field Assistants to the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office (CiO) Mihail Olaru (Moldova) and Ognjen Jovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

From the opposite side of the border, the monitoring was conducted by Field Assistant to the Personal Representative of the OSCE CiO Ghenadie Petrica (Moldova) and staff member of the Office of the CiO Personal Representative Martin Schuster (Germany).

The monitoring passed in accordance with the agreed schedule.

From the Artsakh side, the monitoring mission was accompanied by representatives of the Republic of Artsakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense.

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. On the sidelines of the official visit to Serbia Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan and his delegation met today with President Aleksandar Vučić, the Armenian Parliament told Armenpress.

The Serbian President welcomed the Armenian Speaker of Parliament and his delegation to Belgrade and expressed confidence that this visit will give a new impetus to the Armenian-Serbian relations.

Speaker Mirzoyan thanked for the welcome and stated that the recent high-level visits between the two countries must contribute to revealing and exercising the potential existing between the sides, adding that the two peoples have deep historical and cultural ties. Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the fact of abolishing the visa regime between the two countries and stated that it will boost mutual tourism visits.

The Speaker also highlighted the role of the parliaments in the bilateral relations both at the level of friendship groups, committees and international parliamentary formats.

The sides exchanged also information about the ongoing situation in both regions.

As for the Artsakh conflict, Speaker Mirzoyan said the right to self-determination is the only guarantee for the physical security of the Armenian population living there. He reaffirmed that the Armenian side sees the solution of the conflict only through peaceful negotiations under the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship format and calls on its partners to support this format and the adopted principles.

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian had a working meeting today with Head of the Food Safety Inspectorate Georgi Avetisyan, the Presidential Office told Armenpress.

At the meeting the officials discussed the operation of the Food Safety Inspectorate, as well as issues relating to the process of ensuring food safety in Armenia. Mr. Avetisyan introduced the activity fields of the structure led by him.

Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus around the globe, the Armenian President highlighted enhancing the control on food safety and sanitary-hygienic conditions of restaurants, cafes, etc.

The President considered vital the idea of making Armenia a regional hub in the field of food safety and holding discussions with the respective international organizations and leaders of several countries on this path.

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan received today the delegation led by Anna-Carin Öst, the Representative of the UNHCR Representation in Armenia, the ministry told Armenpress.

At the meeting broad range of issues of mutual interest, relating to the protection of human rights, judicial reforms, correctional and probation field strategies, as well as the actions plans were discussed.

The Armenian justice minister and the Representative of the UNHCR Representation agreed to further develop the cooperation for the benefit of solving several issues and protecting the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.

Second focus group meeting of Armenian and Georgian leaders and experts held in Dilijan

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. In the frameworks of the EU funded “Armenian-Georgian Platform for Policy Development” project the Yerevan and Tbilisi Schools of Political Studies organize a series of focus group meetings on fight against corruption, anti-discrimination and tourism for economic growth.

The second Armenian-Georgian focus group meeting on Anti-discrimination took place on 8-9 February 2020 in Dilijan, Armenia. During the two-day event 20 representatives from Yerevan and Tbilisi Schools of Political Studies carried out discussions on equality, human rights and non-discrimination issues in Armenia and in Georgia. The group of young leaders looked into the existing gaps and challenges, as well as underlined the importance of the education and large public awareness raising activities in order to establish culture of tolerance and diversity and to percept equality as a core element for human rights.

Qualified Armenian and Georgian experts presented the situation, legal regulations and policies to overcome the challenges for effective and full protection from the discrimination for all groups. Debates and discussions included topics like discrimination grounds, domestic legislation and international standards, disability, political belonging or social status, religion or belief, equal rights in education, employment and career.

The results of the focus group discussions will be reflected in policy recommendations with concrete actions prepared by experts of the Yerevan and Tbilisi Schools of Political Studies, to support the authorities to combat discrimination and advance equality as a fundamental human right and a basic principle of social justice. The policy recommendation will be presented at the conference to be held in Armenia in June 2020.

“Armenian-Georgian Platform for Policy Development” project is funded by the European Union Delegation to Armenia under the Rapid Response Mechanism of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Facility. The project is implemented by the Yerevan School of Political Studies in cooperation with the Tbilisi School of Political Studies. Both Schools belong to the Network of the European Association of the Schools of Political Studies.

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian had a working meeting today with Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan, the Presidential Office told Armenpress.

The President and the minister discussed the agenda of Armenia’s constitutional amendments, judicial reforms, anti-corruption fight, human rights, the international cooperation in these fields, as well as a number of other issues.

The justice minister introduced the activity of the professional commission for constitutional amendments to the President.

President Sarkissian highlighted the constitutional reforms and stated that the Constitution is a legal document living and developing under the challenges of the time. He said any change, improvement in the Constitution should be based on the principle of the rule of law by contributing to the peaceful and normal development of the state.

Armen Sarkissian also introduced his visions and approaches on the constitutional amendments. He highlighted the participation of broad public in the development process of the main law of the country as much as possible. The President said his administration is ready to cooperate both with the ministry and the professional commission with its proposals and capacities.

Both sides highlighted the importance of such meetings.

EUR exchange rate down by 1.01 drams to 546.11 drams. Russian Ruble exchange rate up by 0.05 drams to 6.75 drams. GBP exchange rate down by 3.41 drams to 625.86 drams.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Gold price down by 210.35 drams to 25712.65 drams. Silver price up by 3.38 drams to 265.09 drams. Platinum price up by 10.76 drams to 13495.37 drams.
