Russia starts testing vaccine against novel coronavirus

YEREVAN, MARCH 20, ARMENPRESS. Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing has launched tests of a vaccine against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Federal Service said in its website.

The statement says the prototypes of vaccines have been developed in a short period of time.

Experts have managed to create vaccines based on broadly used recombinant viral vectors of flu.

New vaccines are usually tested on sensitive laboratory animals.

In late December 2019, Chinese authorities notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, central China. WHO declared the outbreak of the novel coronavirus a global pandemic and named the virus COVID-19.

Armenian military launches disinfecting, screening measures to stay coronavirus-free

YEREVAN, MARCH 20, ARMENPRESS. Measures are being carried out in the military aimed at preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus into the Armed Forces, the Defense Ministry said.

Disinfection measures are carried out in all military bases.

Troops are being screened and checked by medics before being deployed to combat duty. The soldiers are also provided with disinfecting means.

Military equipment and weaponry are also being disinfected.

So far no cases of the virus were detected in the military.

Artem Afian appointed advisor to Ukraine’s PM

YEREVAN, MARCH 20, ARMENPRESS. Artem Afian, managing partner at Juscutum Attorneys Association, has been appointed advisor to Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on digital economy affairs, AnalitikaUA.net reported.

“I have been appointed advisor to the prime minister having certain knowledge in that field. I am not becoming an official with this job, but I know that I am going to write regulatory acts on separate matters. I have knowledge and know how it is done in other countries and I am ready to apply it in Ukraine”, Artem Afian said.

Artem Afian is serving as managing partner at Juscutum Attorneys Association since 2008. He is engaged in introducing innovations in legal services.

Panic-causing disinformation spread on social media from Azerbaijani IP addresses

YEREVAN, MARCH 20, ARMENPRESS. Cybercrime police say they’ve revealed that Azerbaijani hackers have gained unauthorized access to the social media accounts of some Armenians and have spread disinformation about the coronavirus situation with the purpose of causing panic.

Police said the real holders of these accounts were unaware that their accounts were used to spread the disinformation.

The cybercrime division of the police said they have discovered that the accounts were accessed from Azerbaijani IP addresses.

Police said they have launched proceedings based on the reports of the social media users. 

By laws of the state of emergency which is active until April 14th, social media users and the news media cannot publish articles about the coronavirus situation without citing official information.

Over 321 million AMD donated to anti-coronavirus efforts

YEREVAN, MARCH 20, ARMENPRESS.  The Ministry of Finance informs that a total of 321 million and 167 thousand drams has been donated to the Armenian government for its anti-coronavirus efforts, ARMENPRESS reports the government said.

The treasury account (900005001947) was opened on March 17th for citizens and organizations willing to make donations.

The government said a total of 1355 payments were made since.

Armenian pilots carry out training flights with SU-30SM aircrafts

4041 lonely elderly people in Armenia to be provided with foodstuff for a month

YEREVAN, MARCH 20, ARMENPRESS. With the support of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, 4041 lonely elderly people will be provided with foodstuff for one month.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Government of Armenia, “Mission Armenia’’ and ‘’German Red Cross’’ started the implementation of the program on March 20.

“Mission Armenia’’ Charity NGO will provide foodstuff to 1934 elderly people in Yerevan and 1892 elderly people in the regions, while “German Red Cross” will provide foodstuff for a month to 215 elderly people.
