Artsakh’s coronavirus active cases drop to 3 with latest recovery

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. Artsakh’s coronavirus recoveries have reached 5 as a patient recovered from the disease after nearly 20 days of hospitalization, the Artsakh Information Center said.

“The patient is the citizen of Armenia who had entered Artsakh on April 7 and was tested positive for the coronavirus on April 8. The patient was taken to Armenia for hospitalization,” it said.

As of April 27, the total cumulative number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Artsakh is 8.

5 of them have recovered. The number of active cases is 3.

So far, Artsakh has no fatalities from the coronavirus.

Pashinyan chairs session of governmental commission on preventing COVID-19 spread in Armenia

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. The session of the governmental commission coordinating the works to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in Armenia was held today in the government chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the PM’s Office told Armenpress.

Deputy Prime Minister, the State of Emergency Commandant, Tigran Avinyan introduced the ongoing actions within the frames of the policy to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as well as the future steps.

In particular, the session touched upon the issues relating to the organization of works in economic, social, educational, cultural and other spheres of public life.

The participants of the session exchanged views on the manageability of the problem, the possibilities to mitigate restrictions on free movement and economic activitiy, control mechanisms, etc.

The Commandant will soon make respective decisions based on the results of today’s session.

Opposition LHK party recommends government to pay more coronavirus relief to citizens

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. The Bright Armenia (LHK) opposition party is recommending the government to provide more coronavirus relief to citizens.

“The international community, different leading countries have taken this path. We are suggesting to set aside 100 billion drams for May and provide 100,000-dram in assistance to 500,000 families from this sum, as well as pay additional pensions to 470,000 pensioners,” LHK party leader Edmon Marukyan said in a statement on social media.

Marukyan said this assistance should not be provided to public sector or public service employees.

So far, the government has already initiated 14 different relief packages.

Armenian President congratulates King Willem-Alexander on birthday and National Day of Netherlands

Russia overtakes China in coronavirus cases

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. Russia has confirmed 6,198 new coronavirus cases over the past day, bringing the total number in the country to 87,147 in all regions, TASS news agency reports citing the anti-coronavirus crisis center.

Russia overtook China for the number of confirmed coronavirus cases, where 84,500 cases have been recorded to date.

Some 43.4% of new patients (2,693) did not show any symptoms.

In late December 2019, Chinese authorities notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, central China. WHO declared the outbreak of the novel coronavirus a global pandemic and named the virus COVID-19. 

According to the data of the World Health Organization, coronavirus cases have been confirmed in more than 210 countries and territories.




Armenia’s economic activity index grew by 4% in three months

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s economic activity index grew by 4% in January-March 2020 compared to January-March 2019, according to the data released by the National Statistical Committee.

In particular, the industrial production volume rose by 8.7%, that of the gross agricultural output – by 4.5%. Construction volume declined by 9.4% compared to January-March 2019. The trade turnover also registered a growth, 0.2%, and the volume of services increased by 5.5%. Consumer price index and the industrial production price index decreased by 0.1%. Electricity production grew by 14.8%.

Average nominal monthly salary increased by 9.2%, comprising 190,136 drams.

Foreign trade turnover declined by nearly 4%. But the export grew by 0.2%, the import decreased by 6.2%.

Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) Armenia’s government on March 16 declared a state of emergency which was effective until April 14. But the state of emergency was extended until May 14 to further tackle the disease.

Armenia schools to carry on remote learning for rest of 2020 academic year

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. Schools will remain closed and classes will continue being organized remotely during May, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan said on social media.

“The 2020 academic year will end with remote learning,” he said.

Schools and universities in Armenia deployed remote learning when the coronavirus outbreak began in early March.

Armenia schools skip exams for some grades

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. 4th and 9th graders in elementary schools in Armenia will not have to pass examinations at the end of the academic year amid the coronavirus pandemic, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan said on social media.

He said that the students’ grades and records will be summed up electronically and considered examination grades. The same principle will also be used for 10th and 11th graders in high schools.

The minister earlier said that schools and universities will continue remote learning until the end of the 2020 academic year.

Armenia NO2 pollution drops drastically amid lockdown

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. A drastic drop of nitrogen dioxide air pollution has been recorded in Armenia from April 1 to 16 compared to March 1 to 15 amid the coronavirus lockdown, the Environmental Monitoring and Information Center reported.

While the decrease in Yerevan is only 4%, the drop was 48% in Tsakhkadzor and 42% in Alaverdi. The biggest decrease in nitrogen dioxide pollution was recorded in Vanadzor with 49%.

The pollution dropped 12% in Kajaran, 36% in Hrazdan and 32% in Alaverdi.

Azerbaijan’s banking system collapses

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijan’s Central Bank has enforced direct administration in four banks of the country by appointing Temporary Administrators for Atabank, AGBank, NBC Bank and Amrah Bank.

The temporary administrators are entrusted with all authorities of management, the Azerbaijani cenbank said.
