YEREVAN, JUNE 6, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan urged the citizens of Armenia to follow the anti-pandemic rules during a Facebook Live today for diminishing the chances of being infected. He noted that there are thousands infected people in the country who show no symptoms, and not taking preventive measures, they can infect many others.

”The more we have infected people, the more is the number of patients in serious and critical health condition. The number of deaths also rises. The capacities of our healthcare system has been expanded and continues to expand, but if serious cases become more and more, there will be no places in hospitals. In this case we will have to return to total lockdown and life will stop with all economic and social consequences”, ARMENPRESS reports Pashinyan as saying.

PM Pashinyan noted that even the total lockdown is not a solution to the problem, since after opening the virus will start spreading again.

Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that the best scenario is being able to keep the situation under control in a way that all the patients in serious and critical situation are able to receive medical treatment.

COVID19 Relief: Knights of Vartan and
Ayo Program of FAR Teamed Up

Yerevan – The Knights and Daughters of Vartan share the concern of
helping to combat the COVID19 pandemic and with Past Grand Commander Nigoghos
Atinizian and Mrs. Roset Atinizian’s matching fund of $5,000 joined Ayo program
of FAR and raised far over $10,000 for food and everyday necessities for people
in the Tavush border region of Armenia.

COVID-19
is spreading, and all cautions are needed to prevent it. For this purpose, the
lock down in Armenia has left scores of people with either limited income or no
income at all. They needed our help more than ever. Knights of Vartan Past
Grand Commander Nigoghos Atinizian initiated a matching fund. He and his wife, Roset
donated $5,000 to be matched by funds raised by the Knights and Daughters of
Vartan and friends.

“People in Tavush region are hardworking and I
have met many of them during my frequent visits to Armenia. We know the
pandemic is temporary and one day we will overcome it. But there are families
who need our urgent support now and we would like to stand by their side during
this needed time” said Past Grand Commander Nigoghos Atinizian.

Just
one week after announcing the matching fund drive to the Knights and Daughters
of Vartan community across the United States, over $10,000 was raised for COVID-19
relief in the Tavush region.

The Tavush
region has the longest geographical border with Azerbaijan. The region is a strategic
location and for decades the Knights and Daughters of Vartan and its members have
been involved in numerous charitable projects to help support its people. Among
those efforts is the COVID-19 Relief project with Ayo. It is essential given
the current pandemic that now spreads in Armenia and in the world.

During
the last several weeks, and using the money raised during the matching
fundraising drive, the Ayo program staff has distributed 400 packages to some 400
families in the Tavush region. The packages include basic necessities as well
as food. We know that along with receiving their package of food, these
families also receive emotional support. They realize that they are not alone
and that during these difficult times, their brothers and sisters across the border
and around the world have them in their thoughts.

There
are several other projects that the Knights and Daughters of Vartan have
undertaken as members continue to show their support for their brothers and
sisters in Armenia.

“We
are so thankful to Past Grand Commander Nigoghos and Roset Atinizian for their
generous donation and to the members of the Knights of Vartan who rose to the
occasion to help our homeland.  As members of the Knights of Vartan we are
committed to helping our homeland along with our communities in the diaspora”
expressed Grand Commander Steven Adams.

Tsarukian Demands Armenian Government’s Resignation
June 6, 2020
Armenia -- Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukian attends a parliament
session, Yerevan, March 24, 2020.
Gagik Tsarukian, the leader of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK),
has demanded that the Armenian government step down, accusing it of mishandling
the coronavirus crisis and its socioeconomic consequences.
Pashinian swiftly hit back hard at Tsarukian after he criticized the government
in unusually strong terms at a meeting with senior BHK members held on Friday.
“I said last year that with this composition and structure [of the government]
it’s impossible to live up to the [people’s] expectations and that if they want
to live up to them they must replace 97 percent of [government members,]” said
Tsarukian. “Seeing all these failings now, I can say for certain that not 97
percent but 100 percent of them must be replaced because all spheres have been
mismanaged.”
“We are losing the country,” he declared in a speech aired by a TV channel
controlled by him. “Every day, every hour passes to the detriment of our country
and our people.”
Tsarukian, whose party has the second largest group in the Armenian parliament,
accused Pashinian of failing to deliver on his pledges to carry out an “economic
revolution” that would significantly improve living standards. The BHK leader
claimed that Pashinian’s cabinet consists of mostly inexperienced and
incompetent people.
He also slammed the government for failing to contain the rapid spread of
coronavirus in the country. “In all other countries the pandemic has subsided,
whereas in Armenia [the daily number of new coronavirus cases] reaches 400, 500,
600 and 700 day by day,” he said. “This is the result of fruitless and
inefficient work for which people must he held answerable.”
Tsarukian went on to call on “healthy” political groups and individuals
“concerned about country’s future” to join forces and discuss with him “ways out
of the existing situation.” He did not name any potential allies, saying only
that he will not cooperate with politicians “unacceptable to the people.”
Pashinian was quick to react to Tsarukian’s speech through his spokeswoman, Mane
Gevorgian.
Armenia - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian (C) arrives for a business forum
organized by Gagik Tsarukian (L), October 26, 2018.
“I think that Mr. Tsarukian is simply concerned about the course of a number of
criminal cases relating to money laundering, vote buying, tax evasion and
corruption,” Gevorgian wrote on Facebook. “If Mr. Tsarukian thinks that his
political statements will derail the investigations then it’s a wrong
calculation because in Armenia everyone is equal before the law.”
The official suggested that Tsarukian, who is one of the country’s richest men,
is also worried about the recent entry into force of a law allowing authorities
to confiscate private properties and other assets deemed to have been acquired
illegally.
Tsarukian’s spokeswoman, Iveta Tonoyan, responded by saying that the authorities
are thus threatening to prosecute the leader of the largest parliamentary
opposition force on “fabricated grounds.”
“Gagik Tsarukian stands by every point of his speech and calls on the
authorities to put an end to the political blackmail,” said Tonoyan.
The top manager of dozens of companies belonging to Tsarukian, Sedrak
Arustamian, was arrested in late April on bribery and money laundering charges
denied by him. Arustamian was earlier indicted in two other criminal
investigations.
The BHK had joined Pashinian’s first cabinet formed in May 2018 in the wake of
the “Velvet Revolution.” Pashinian fired his ministers affiliated with BHK in
October 2018, accusing Tsarukian’s party of secretly collaborating with the
country’s former leadership.
The BHK finished second in the December 2018 parliamentary elections and won 26
seats in Armenia’s 132-member parliament.

Ex-envoy: Armenian ex-SRC chair realized it is necessary to quickly escape from the sinking ship

Armenian ex-SRC chair Davit Ananyan has realized it is necessary to quickly escape from the sinking ship, said Armenian ex-Ambassador to the Vatican Mikael Minasyan referring to Ananyan’s resignation.

According to him, “it will not save him from his share of responsibility, but at least we can say for sure that Mr. Ananyan has not gone mad.”

Minasyan also noted that Chief of General Staff of Armenian Armed Forces Artak Davtyan has denied something “I had never suspected, that the Osa-AKM is a good weapon and that the Armenian Armed Forces needed it.”

“The fact that these weapons were produced in the 80’s or 70’s does not mean anything,” he added.

Mikael Minasyan has earlier claimed that Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan is involved in the international arms trade. According to Minasyan, Pashinyan is ready to do everything for money and power.

As the ex-envoy noted: “For this, he tried to negotiate with our two largest enemies.” “Nikol Pashinyan does not respect the Armenian people, does not respect human life, the victims of March 1 have always been and will be political for him,” Minasyan added.

As reported earlier, Armenian State Revenue Committee’s head Davit Ananyan has submitted his resignation. He took to his Facebook to share the news to “dispel the news in the press.”
