YEREVAN, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. The extraordinary session, which was convened on July 8, resumed today in the Armenian Parliament.

During yesterday’s session the lawmakers have debated and adopted several bills and legislative packages at the first and second hearings.

At today’s session the MPs will continue debating a number of bills at the second hearing.

COVID-19: Armenia reports 526 new cases, 573 recoveries in one day

YEREVAN, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. 526 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been registered in Armenia in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 30,346, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention said today.

573 more patients have recovered. The total number of recoveries has reached 18,000.

14 people have died in one day, raising the death toll to 535.

The number of active cases stands at 11,641.

The number of people who had a coronavirus but died from other disease has reached 170 (6 new such cases).

So far, 129,166 people have passed COVID-19 testing.

680.3 billion drams in tax revenues in 1st quarter of 2020: State Revenue Committee presents data

YEREVAN, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. 680.3 billion AMD in tax revenues have been ensured by the State Revenue Committee of Armenia in the 1st quarter of 2020, the SRC said in a statement.

“Revenues collected by the tax authority comprised 622.2 billion drams, whereas those collected by the customs authority comprised 123.4 billion drams. In the same period 65.3 billion drams were returned to the economic entities for the income tax aimed at servicing the VAT and mortgage loan interest rates.

In the 1st quarter of 2019, 712.8 billion drams in tax revenues have been ensured by the State Revenue Committee. The revenues collected by the tax authority comprised 602.8 billion drams, whereas those collected by the customs authority comprised 160.4 billion drams. In the aforementioned period 50.4 billion drams were returned to the economic entities for the income tax aimed at servicing the VAT and mortgage loan interest rates.

In the 1st quarter of 2010, compared to the same period of 2019, the decline in tax revenues comprised 17.6 billion drams or 2.3%”, the statement says.

Russian reconciliation center warns of chemical provocation being staged in Syria

YEREVAN, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. Militants have made at least 15 explosive devices containing unknown substance for a provocation in Syrian inhabited localities, Alexander Shcherbitsky, chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria, said on July 8, reports TASS.

“According to the intelligence, militants have manufactured minimum 15 improvised bombs stuffed with unknown toxic substance in a special laboratory located in the town of Sarmada”, Shcherbitsky said.

According to tip-offs from the local population, he added, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group (banned in Russia) “is planning a provocation in the settlement of Sfuhon, Fatira and Flaifel, Idlib province, with the aim to blame the government forces for the use of chemical weapons”.

YEREVAN, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. During today’s Cabinet meeting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan touched about the recent statement of the World Health Organization according to which the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) can be spread by tiny particles suspended in the air.

“Yesterday the World Health Organization announced that it acknowledges that the virus can be spread through the air, this is what we have announced last week based on new scientific data, and in this respect wearing face mask is very important, including in outdoor places”, the PM said, adding that the number of coronavirus cases worldwide has surpassed 100,000 in one day, the total cases passed 12 million.

“The countries, which announced that they overcame the coronavirus, unfortunately, are again returning to the most active stage of the pandemic”, the Armenian PM said, adding that the COVID-19 in Armenia also continues spreading. According to the data of the past one day, the number of new cases in Armenia is 526, the death toll has risen to 535.

“I want to state once again that our anti-coronavirus strategy remains the same, that is to get used to living with the rules which will allow to reach the number of new cases to zero”, Pashinyan said.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Armenia has reached 30,346, of which 18,000 have already recovered.

Government gives privilege to investment program on building solar power station in Armavir province

YEREVAN, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian government approved the application by SUNENERGY LLC, enabling the company to use the privilege of exempting imported technological equipment, their components and raw materials from the customs duty within the frames of the investment program.

The products imported by the company will be used for constructing a solar power station in Armavir province.

Nearly 1 billion 77 billion drams will be invested for the project.

It is expected to create 5 permanent and 50 temporary jobs with 110,000 AMD average salary on the sidelines of the project.

The annual electricity production volume will comprise nearly 126 million drams.

The cost of the products to be imported comprises 115.3 million drams. The privilege on exempting from the customs duty is 8 million drams.

Parliament adopts bill on making education free for family members of fallen servicemen

YEREVAN, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Parliament adopted the bill on making an amendment to the Law on Military Service and Status of a Serviceman.

The bill has been drafted by the ruling My Step faction MP Sofia Hovsepyan.

The bill proposes to make an amendment to the Article 67 according to which the family members of fallen soldiers, in particular parents and wives, can study at Armenia’s state accredited universities at the expense of the state budget.

Currently 12 members of the families of fallen soldiers study at Armenia’s universities.

86 MPs unanimously voted in favor of the bill.

Georgia’s confirmed coronavirus cases reach 968

YEREVAN, JULY 9, ARMENPRESS. Georgia confirmed 5 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past one day, bringing the total number of cases to 968, the authorities said, RIA Novosti reports.

844 people have already recovered.

The death toll is 15.

4,425 people are quarantined.

The facility is capable of manufacturing 50,000 assault rifles a year, the country’s prime minister says

The Armenian government revealed on July 7 that the country’s small arms production plant began operating under license to manufacture Kalashnikov AK-103 assault rifles.

During a tour of the Neutron GAM plant, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the new plant could produce up to 50,000 rifles a year. Pashinyan was accompanied by the country’s defense minister.

Janes notes that Neutron’s ammunition production lines are also being transferred from the company’s current facility in the capital Yerevan to the neighboring province of Kotayk. Following refurbishment, the facility will be able to produce 7.62×39 mm, 7.62 × 54 mm, 12.7 mm, and 9×18 mm and 9×19 mm ammunition. The modernization of equipment for the 7.62×39 mm, 7.62×54 mm, and 12.7 mm production lines is being performed through a $24 million contract with Russia’s Spetsmashingeneering.
