YEREVAN, JULY 16, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s National Security Service informs that measures are being taken to return Armenian citizen Narek Sardaryan from the Azerbaijani captivity, the NSS said in a statement.

Farmer Narek Sardayan was working in the fields and caring for his livestock. He went to retrieve his farm animals but lost orientation, getting lost and accidentally crossing into the territory of Nakhijevan where he was captured.

He has a family and minor children.

“There is no panic in the communities. Today we asked the people to remain in shelters if possible. The situation is stable and under control. Thanks to the professional work of our Army we feel calmer in our villages and towns”, he said at a briefing.

YEREVAN, JULY 16, ARMENPRESS. Today early in the morning the Azerbaijani side resumed shelling at the bordering villages of Armenia’s Tavush province. Aygepar, Nerkin Karmiraghbyur, Chinari, Movses, Tavush villages and Berd town were under the target, Governor of Tavush province Hayk Chobanyan said at a briefing.

“During that period more than 10 civilian homes, as well as some infrastructures have been damaged. I specifically want to mention the shelling of a kindergarten in Aygepar, as well as a water pipeline in Tavush-Nerkin Karmiraghbyur part has been damaged, but its restoration works are underway”, he said.

The Governor said at the moment there is a relative calm in the bordering villages.

All groups of civil protection of Armenia’s Tavush province have been mobilized in the early morning of July 16 and are taking intensive works at all directions to ensure the security of the residents, Governor of Tavush province Hayk Chobanyan said at a briefing at the Crisis Information Center in Ijevan town.

“We have announced an internal mobilization, in particular in terms of shelter. Our citizens have mainly been shelters and basements. Fortunately, we do not have casualties among the civilian population”, the Governor said.

Azerbaijan may have lost over 2 dozen troops during its offensive

YEREVAN, JULY 16, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijan may have lost one-two dozen troops during the military operations launched by its armed forces on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border overnight July 16, Head of the Crisis Information Center Artsrun Hovhannisyan said at a briefing today in Ijevan town.

“We cannot say for sure how many losses the adversary has. The observed losses can approach even one-two dozens, but I cannot say for sure. I would not like to insist on something which later would be difficult to prove. We will wait for the confirmation of the adversary, and then we will understand the approximate number”, he said.

As for the losses of the Armenian side, Hovhannisyan said no casualties have been registered in the Armenian Armed Forces.

Overnight July 16, at around 03:40, the units of the Armenian Armed Forces have noticed movement of the Azerbaijani side. Switching to all-round defense, the Armenian Armed Forces prevented the sabotage infiltration attempt of the Azerbaijani side. After a hot battle the adversary was pushed back suffering losses.

Armenian President congratulates Polish counterpart on re-election

President Sarkissian expressed confidence that during his tenure the cooperation between Armenia and Poland, which is based on trust and friendship, will continue developing and strengthening for the benefit of the two peoples.

The respective decision has been signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Elmar Mammadyarov was serving as Azerbaijani foreign minister since 2004.

During the July 15 Cabinet meeting Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev complained over the work of the foreign ministry and minister Mammadyarov. Aliyev said he could not find Mammadyarov amid the events taking place on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and the latter told the prime minister that he is working from home.

YEREVAN, JULY 16, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on appointing Jeyhun Bayramov as new foreign minister, the Azerbaijani media report.

Bayramov was serving as education minister of Azerbaijan since 2013.

President Sarkissian thanked the Ambassador for his personal contribution to the strengthening of the Armenian-Belarussian ties and the productive work, wishing further success to the diplomat. Armen Sarkissian said the Armenian-Belarussian relations have a great development potential in all spheres and expressed confidence that they will continue expanding and strengthening.

One of Armenian servicemen wounded from Azerbaijani shooting still in critical condition

YEREVAN, JULY 16, ARMENPRESS. The number of Armenian servicemen wounded in the military operations launched by Azerbaijan on the border with Armenia has not changed, Head of the Crisis Information Center Artsrun Hovhannisyan said at a briefing in Ijevan town.

“One of the wounded servicemen is still in critical condition”, he said.

10 servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces were wounded from the Azerbaijani military operations launched in the north-eastern section of the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border. 5 servicemen are in moderate condition. The remaining 4 will soon return to the military service.
