13 Lebanese-Armenians killed in Beirut blast – embassy

YEREVAN, AUGUST 7, ARMENPRESS. The number of Lebanese-Armenians killed in the Beirut explosion has reached 13, the Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan said citing the embassy.

As reported earlier, among them is Nazar Najarian, the General Secretary of the Kataeb Party. Jessica Beckjian, a nurse at the Saint George Hospital University Medical Center, a hospital near the site of the exposion, was also killed.

YEREVAN, 7 AUGUST, ARMENPRESS. The Central Bank of Armenia informs “Armenpress” that today, 7 august, USD exchange rate down by 0.18 drams to 485.00 drams. EUR exchange rate down by 2.20 drams to 573.17 drams. Russian Ruble exchange rate down by 0.04 drams to 6.58 drams. GBP exchange rate down by 4.31 drams to 634.96 drams.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Gold price вup by 284.42 drams to 32233.3 drams. Silver price вup by 14.50 drams to 434.81 drams. Platinum price вup by 165.94 drams to 15218.88 drams.

Armenian Genocide film The Promise now available on Netflix

The Armenian Genocide film The Promise is now available to tens of millions of households via Netflix.

To get the film trending, it’s necessary to view, giving the film a well-deserved thumbs-up and recommend that friends watch this epic drama set against the backdrop of the Armenian Genocide.

Set during the waning days of the Ottoman Turkish Empire, “The Promise” tells the story of a love triangle sparked between an Armenian medical student, Michael (Oscar Issac), Anna (Charlotte Le Bon), and renowned American photojournalist Chris Myers (Christian Bale).

The First World War and the Armenian Genocide of the 1915-1923 form the historical backdrop of an epic story of love, loyalty and survival.

It was philanthropist and billionaire Kirk Kerkorian, who envisioned the movie and got producer Eric Esrailian involved. They spent two years researching the Genocide and governments’ efforts, including by the United States to suppress a movie being made about the event, before forming a production company to make the movie.

Kerkorian didn’t live to see the filming, but he did see the creation of the story.

As The Promise premieres on Netflix, pop star Cher (Cherylin Sarkissian) recommends the film to her 3.8 million followers on Twitter.

“The Promise Premieres TODAY 8/8 on Netflix. Finally a film opens a window to the story of the Armenian Genocide as well as the Armenian Culture: love of family, Music, Faith,” Cher said in a twitter post.

From Armenia’s heart to Beirut: First plane with humanitarian aid heads for Lebanon

The first plane with Armenian humanitarian aid has taken off from Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport.
 
Two more planes will carry aid to Beirut next week.
 
Thirteen Armenians were killed, hundreds were injured as a result of two massive explosions that rocked Beirut.
 
A total of 158 people have been confirmed dead, 5,000 have been injured and 300,000 are homeless.
 
UN agencies have warned of a humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.

Armenian youth help clean up Beirut’s Bourj Hammoud neighborhood

The local authorities and Armenian community organizations are cleaning up the districts affected by the huge blast in Beirut on Tuesday, Aztag Daily reports.

Representatives of the ARF Armenian Youth Federation rushed to help the municipal staff in the clean-up efforts of the Armenian-populated Bourj Hammoud neighborhood, removing the pieces of broken glass and stone piles.

They also urged the residents of the district to participate in the clean-up works, and help restore the neighborhood in the shorted terms.

Ministry of Health spox comments on resignation of Yerevan infectious disease hospital head

Referring to the resignation of Mher Davidyants as Director of the Nork Infection Clinical Hospital in Yerevan, Armenian Ministry of Health spokeswoman Alina Nikoghosyan reminded that a process of merging the Republican Center for the Prevention of AIDS with the infectious disease hospital started in early 2020.

According to her, Mher Davidyants was offered to serve as a deputy general director at the new medical institution, which he initially accepted but later rejected.

“By the order of the minister, the directors of the two medical centers, the Republican Center for the Prevention of AIDS and the Nork Infection Clinical Hospital, have already been dismissed due to the process of establishing a new center. After the merger of the two clinics, an acting director will be appointed by the minister,” Nikoghosyan said in a Facebook post.

“Mr. Davidyants was also offered to continue the cooperation in other formats acceptable to him, for example, to be engaged in scientific and educational activities.

“The ministry and the minister highly appreciate Mher Davidyants’ contribution to the fight against the pandemic and regret his decision,” she wrote.  


Covid-19 cases in Armenia top 40,000

Armenia has reported 200 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total to 40,185.

According to the data of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 387 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 32,395.

Eight patients have died in the past 24 hours. The death toll has reached 785, another 228 patients with coronavirus have died because of other diseases.

The number of active cases is 6,777.
