YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. US Congressman Brad Sherman has called on the US State Department to react to Turkey’s deployment of jihadists to the NK conflict zone where the Azeri forces are using these foreign fighters as mercenaries against Artsakh.
“Today, I spoke to Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent and U.S. OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair Andrew Schofer about reports that Turkey is recruiting and deploying fighters from “jihadist groups” in Syria to the Artsakh-Azerbaijan border,” the congressman tweeted.
“I urged State Dept to continue to push Turkey that the deployment of foreign fighters in the region is unacceptable and will be met by a response from the United States.”
There are numerous confirmed data that the Azeri forces are using Syrian jihadist terrorist groups as mercenaries in the attacks on Artsakh.
This information has been confirmed by the Armenian intelligence agency, French President Emmanuel Macron, by Russia’s intelligence agency, by the Pentagon, and also by Syria’s .

Armenian community in Norway to hold protest against Azerbaijani aggression

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian community representatives of Norway will hold protests on October 7 and 8 against the ongoing Turkey-backed Azerbaijani aggression on the Republic of Artsakh.
The first protest, titled ‘Solidarity with Armenia and Artsakh’, will be held on October 7, and the second one – Protest against Azerbaijani aggression, will take place on October 8 outside the Norway Parliament.
Narine Harutyunyan, chair of the Armenian church community of Norway, told Armenpress that there will be a set number of participants in the protest due to the novel coronavirus (COVIUD-19).
“The rally will take place at a time when the members of the foreign affairs and defense committee of Norway meet. We expect that they will not stay indifferent and will react to the Armenian community representatives, with this showing their support to the people of Armenia and Artsakh who seek peace. The mercenaries by Azerbaijan and Turkey have attacked and are trying to deport a nation who has lived and created on that land for centuries”, she said.
The protest aims at drawing the attention of the Kingdom of Norway on what is happening in Artsakh for already 10 days. Before the protest Narine Harutyunyan and head of the culture community Liana Harutyunyan have addressed a call-letter to the prime minister of Norway, asking to make a statement, strongly condemn the Azerbaijani aggression, urge Baku to stop all attacks and sit around the negotiation table.
Harutyunyan said the Armenian community expects that Norway will support Armenia in the Council of Europe and other international organizations, seeking sanctions against Azerbaijan and Turkey.
“The local media keep silence on the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression which kills not only soldiers, but also civilian population”, she said, adding that the Azerbaijani terrorism must be stopped.
Narine Harutyunyan also informed that the Armenian church community is organizing a fundraising to assist the Hayastan All Armenian Fund and the Military Insurance Fund to overcome this war situation.
On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack against the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabgakh), targeting also the civilian settlements, including the capital Stepanakert and the city of Shushi. In addition, the Azerbaijani armed forces have also targeted Armenia’s military and civilian infrastructures.
21 civilians in Artsakh and Armenia were killed, 80 were wounded as a result of the Azerbaijani aggression.
240 servicemen and volunteers have been killed in Artsakh from the Azerbaijani attacks.

Artsakh Defense Army reports 40 more KIAs

STEPANAKERT, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. The Ministry of Defense of Artsakh said that an additional 40 of its troops have been killed amid the ongoing Azeri attacks.
The total death toll in the Artsakh Defense Army has reached 280.

Artsakh delivers counterstrike at another Azeri army fuel base

Parliament approves bill on authorizing government with approving new mobilization economy plan

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Parliament adopted the bill submitted by the government which proposes to enable the government with the authority to confirm the mobilization plan of the economy in its defense sector powers.
Deputy defense minister Gabriel Balayan introduced the bill on making amendment to the Law on Defense during the Parliament’s session.
The deputy minister said the bill will allow to approve a new mobilization economy plan by the decision of the government, in light of the current military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan and Turkey.
The deputy defense minister also informed that the bill is already drafted and agreed with the ministry of economy. It will be submitted for the government’s approval immediately after its adoption.
87 MPs unanimously voted in favor of the bill.

COVID-19: Armenia reports 672 new cases in one day

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. 672 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed in Armenia in the past one day, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 53,755, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention said today.
178 more patients have recovered in one day. The total number of recoveries has reached 45,110.
2878 tests were conducted in the past one day.
5 more patients have died, raising the death toll to 995.
The number of active cases is 7348.
The number of patients who had a coronavirus but died from other disease stands at 302.

WATCH: Stepanakert City after latest Azerbaijani bombardment

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. Stepanakert City is under continuous Azerbaijani bombardments targeting civilian infrastructures of the capital of Artsakh.
Air raid sirens are heard many times during the day.
The video released on October 7 shows Stepanakert after the latest bombardment attack overnight October 6-7. Heavy damages to civilian infrastructure, residential homes and property was inflicted.
Artsakh’s presidential spokesperson Vahram Poghosyan told ARMENPRESS that currently the authorities are assessing the damages.
According to latest available information 21 civilians were killed in Artsakh and Armenia since the beginning of the Azeri attacks.

Artsakh’s military regains control over previously lost height amid Azeri attacks

STEPANAKERT, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. An Artsakhi special operations force, together with servicemen from the Volunteer Movement detachment, have organized a counterattack in the northern direction and returned a height called “Varangatagh” (Lulusaz) which was previously attacked and captured by Azeri forces, the Defense Ministry of Artsakh said.
“As reported earlier, the Defense Army units continued delivering devastating counterstrikes upon the adversary throughout yesterday, significantly improving positions,” the Defense Ministry of Artsakh said.
“The combat operations at the Artsakh-Azerbaijan conflict zone continue at this moment.”

Greece recalls Ambassador to Azerbaijan

ATHENS, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. Greece has recalled its Ambassador to Azerbaijan following “the completely unsubstantiated and insulting allegations made by the government of Azerbaijan”, the Greek foreign ministry said in a statement.
“Following the completely unsubstantiated and insulting allegations made by the government of Azerbaijan regarding supposed tolerance on the part of the Greek state for preparation of terrorist actions, efforts to recruit terrorist fighters, and cyberattacks from Greek territory on Azerbaijan, in the context of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, a stern demarche was made to the Azeri Ambassador yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Following the demarche, the Greek Ambassador to Azerbaijan, N. Piperigos, was summoned to Athens for consultations, by decision of Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias”, the statement says.
