YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Ministry of Defense reiterated that the Armenian side is strictly adhering to the humanitarian ceasefire set from 08:00 a.m. today.

“The statements of the Azerbaijani side that the Armenian side has allegedly violated the humanitarian ceasefire do not correspond to reality and are of provocative nature.

In this regard Armenia’s Ministry of Defense highlights the immediate introduction of parameters for monitoring the ceasefire and the start of the process of exchanging bodies and prisoners of war with the mediation of the ICRC,” Armenian Defense Ministry spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan said.

The Azerbaijani military violated the new humanitarian ceasefire agreement just 45 minutes into the deal and launched artillery attacks at Artsakh’s military positions in the north-eastern direction, the Armenian Defense Ministry spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan said on October 26. 

“Grossly violating the ceasefire agreement reached in the USA, starting from 8.45 a.m. today Azerbaijani armed forces opened artillery fire at the positions of Artsakh’s Defense Army in north-eastern direction,” Stepanyan said in a statement.

Another Azeri violation took place at 09:10. Azerbaijani forces fired 5 artillery shells at the Artsakh positions in the south-eastern direction.

COVID-19 Armenia: 973 new cases, 16 deaths over last 24 hours

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. 973 new COVID-19 cases and 16 deaths were recorded over the past day in Armenia, the Centers for Disease Control said.

The cumulative total number of confirmed cases has reached 78810.

254 patients recovered, bringing the number of recoveries to 51162.

The death toll reached 1196. This number doesn’t include the deaths of 339 other individuals (2 in last 24 hours) infected with the virus, who according to authorities died from other pre-existing conditions.

2201 tests were conducted over the past day.

As of 11:00, October 26, the number of active cases stood at 26113.

In addition to the ceasefire violations that shelled Artsakh’s military positions shortly after the ceasefire deal took effect today, the Azeri forces have also bombed residential areas in the town of Martuni, the State Service of Emergency Situations of Artsakh said.

“Moments ago, Azerbaijan bombed the town of Martuni with air force bombers, grossly violating the agreement on humanitarian cessation of hostilities,” it said.

“The Armenian side will continue to strictly adhere to the ceasefire regime,” he tweeted.

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. The Republic of Artsakh confirms readiness to comply with the ceasefire regime on reciprocal basis, ARMENPRESS reports President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan wrote on his Facebook page.

‘’I welcome the agreement reached through the mediation of the United States of America and with the participation of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group affirming the commitments of the respective parties to implement a humanitarian ceasefire, agreed on October 10 and October 17 at the initiative of the presidents of the Russian Federation and the French Republic.

The Republic of Artsakh, as the party to the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict, confirms its readiness to comply, on a reciprocal basis, with the terms of the humanitarian ceasefire, set to take effect on at 08:00”, he wrote.

Brokered by the USA, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a ceasefire effective from October 26, 08:00. This is the 3rd ceasefire agreement between the countries. Azerbaijan violated the October 10 and October17 agreements mediated by Russia and France respectively.




Stepanakert residents told not to panic from explosion sounds as bomb squads dispose ordnance

STEPANAKERT, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS.  Bomb squads are disposing the unexploded munitions fired by the Azeri military in Stepanakert City and nearby territories, the State Service of Emergency Situations of Artsakh said.

“At this moment the bomb squads of the State Service of Emergency Situations are working in Stepanakert and the adjacent territory of the city. The discovered ordnance is being disposed on spot. Therefore, please do not panic in the event of hearing sounds of explosions,” the service said.

UN Secretary General welcomes Nagorno Karabakh ceasefire agreement

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. UN Secretary General António Guterres has welcomed the ceasefire agreement in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone, his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said in a statement. 

“The Secretary-General welcomes the joint statement issued today by the Governments of the United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan announcing that the humanitarian ceasefire agreed in Moscow on 10 October and reaffirmed in Paris on 17 October will take effect at 8 a.m., local time, on Monday 26 October. He commends the facilitation efforts of the United States, with the support of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
 
The Secretary-General reiterates his appeal to the parties to fully implement their agreement without delay based on this understanding and to resume substantive negotiations without preconditions under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.  He also calls on the parties to allow safe and unimpeded access to humanitarian workers and delivery of humanitarian assistance and services to civilians in and around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
 
The Secretary-General expects the parties to abide by all their commitments and to work jointly together with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to make concrete steps towards a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” reads the statement.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced that the Armenian side will fully maintain the from 08:00 as agreed.
