YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The potential of Azerbaijan’s land forces has been seriously damaged and now the mercenaries are Azerbaijan’s main hope, ARMENPRESS reports representative of MoD Armenia Artsrun Hovhannisyan said in a press conference.

‘’Today we showed the second mercenary-terrorist who confessed how he was recruited, paid and how he was used by Azerbaijan against us. In this regard I can say that there are still many surprises, irrespective of the attempts of Turkey and Azerbaijan to deny the presence and usage of mercenary-terrorists’’, Hovhannisyan said.

He added that the Armenian side possesses information about where, in which directions and how the mercenary-terrorists are used and what tasks they are trying to solve.

‘’It should be noted that the attempts to carry out some tasks using mercenaries show that the land forces of the armed forces of Azerbaijan are seriously damaged and the mercenaries are Azerbaijan’s main hope’’, Artsrun Hovhannisyan said.

Artsakh’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemns use of phosphorus munitions by Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The Foreign Ministry of Artsakh issued a statement, condemning the use internationally banned methods and weapons in the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh. As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the Foreign Mistry of Artsakh, the statement runs as follows,

‘’We strongly and resolutely condemn the continued employment by Azerbaijan of prohibited means and methods of warfare under international law in the course of armed aggression waged against the Republic of Artsakh on 27 September 2020. In particular, the Azerbaijani armed forces, in addition to cluster munitions, began to use phosphorus-containing incendiary ammunition in wooded areas close to the settlements of the Republic of Artsakh, where part of the civilians from nearby villages have been temporarily sheltering from the actions of Azerbaijani subversive groups.

Contrary to its claims that the Azerbaijani armed forces as if are targeting only military objectives, official Baku is actually resorting to terror tactics against the civilian population of Artsakh. First of all, in this context, it is necessary to consider the consistent refusal of the Azerbaijani side to observe the humanitarian truce, since the continuation of hostilities allows the Baku authorities to further terrorize the civilian population of Artsakh. It is for this purposes that the Azerbaijani side resorts to the use of prohibited weapons, deliberate attacks on the civilian population and civilian objects, including medical units, setting itself the main task of exterminating and forcibly deporting the entire population of Artsakh.

In such cases, as an effective measure to prevent mass violations of the collective and individual rights of an entire people and protect them from physical destruction, the international community has developed a practice of recognizing the rights of these peoples to remedial secession and to enter international relations as an independent state.

30 years ago, the people of Artsakh chose the path of independence as a means of protection against Azerbaijan’s deliberate policy of exterminating the Armenian population. We are convinced, that under the circumstances of the ongoing attempts of the Baku authorities to complete their criminal plan, international recognition of the de facto independence of the Republic of Artsakh is an urgent and mature measure of the international community to fulfil its generally accepted obligations to prevent crimes against humanity”.

Azerbaijan not interested in sustainable and verifiable ceasefire, says Armenian FM

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Armenia has been always supportive of the idea of permanent ceasefire monitoring which was introduced in the peace process by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs immediately after the 2016 April escalation, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said in an interview to Sputnik International.

“Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to the expansion of the OSCE monitoring team and ceasefire investigation mechanism. However, later on Azerbaijan refused to implement this agreement. This indicates that neither yesterday nor today Azerbaijan is interested in a sustainable and verifiable ceasefire. Our position is unchanged and we support deployment of observers”, the Armenian FM said.

The FM said on October 10 foreign ministers of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed in Moscow the joint statement which through its subsequent articles presents itself as a road map for its implementation.

“Thus the first three articles, which envisage cessation of fire, elaboration of parameters of ceasefire, exchange of bodies and PoWs should be unconditionally and immediately implemented. The main diverging issue at the negotiations was reluctance of Azerbaijan to commit itself to a sustainable and verifiable ceasefire. Azerbaijan has been refusing to establish verification mechanisms in line with its longstanding position of avoiding sustainable ceasefire and keeping room for blame game”, he added.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. The Defense Army of Artsakh predicted the possible actions of the Azerbaijani side, destroyed their columns and manpower at the same place, spokesperson of the defense ministry of Artsakh Suren Sarumyan said in a statement.

“Last night the enemy tried to attack along the entire frontline. The attempts were especially intense in the directions of Martuni and Shushi. In the direction of Martuni, the units of the Defense Army made tactical maneuvers to create more advantageous conditions for fighting on the frontline, which is a part of the strategy.

In the second direction, the Defense Army predicted the possible actions of the enemy and destroyed their columns and manpower at the same place. From now on, the Azeris can call this place “Hell’s Gorge” because they had a lot of losses and their plans completely failed.

Right now, the units of the Defense Army confidently stand on their positions, controlling the operative-tactical situation and ready to stop all the attacks of the enemy”, the spokesperson said.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Turkey views the Nagorno Karabakh conflict as an opportunity to project its power in yet another neighboring region – the South Caucasus, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said in an interview to Sputnik International.

“No one can assert that Turkey has been acting as an impartial or neutral player in the context of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, including Turkey itself. Turkey views this conflict as an opportunity to project its power in yet another neighbouring region – the South Caucasus – and this attitude of exploiting conflict and inflicting enormous human suffering on peoples of the region for the sake of power projection should be countered not encouraged”, the Armenian FM said.

The FM said there is overwhelming factual evidence on the presence and ongoing transfer of foreign terrorist fighters by Turkey from Syria and Libya, which is confirmed by the intelligence of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing countries and coverage from the conflict zone itself.
