Three Decades in a Basement

ArmInfo. The Sukiasyan family from Gyulagarak village, Lori region, has been living in a damp and cold basement for years. Their wish to live a decent life was left unfulfilled when the 1988 earthquake struck. It became nearly impossible to build a home even after many years following the disaster.

For three decades, the Sukiasyans’ son, Arman, together with his parents and sisters, and later with his wife and children, went through many hardships. He has tried to take steps, but with the lack of financial means, chances were little he could do that; the walls of the semi-constructed building were left under the old and deteriorating roof. The weather in the region is damp and rainy damaging whatever remained in the house. Living in it had turned dangerous with the walls completely covered in mold.

The problem of the socially vulnerable family appeared in the center of attention of VivaCell-MTS and the Fuller Center for Housing Armenia. As a result of the support of the partners now the problem of the leaking roof is solved. The rain showers are no more a threat for the family.

“I wouldn’t handle this if I tried alone. Thanks to the support, we replaced the roof in 4 days. I am glad my children are under a safe roof. Now I may feel that we live a decent life,” said Arman.

“The house was in a horrible condition after the earthquake. We had some savings and tried to put the stone on the stone. For a whole life, for 30 years, I have been living in a damp basement first with my children and later with my grandchildren without any hope. Now everything has changed. Now we live full of new hopes and dreams. I will send my grandchildren to the army from this house with good mood,” Arman’s mother, Gyulper Sukiasyan said.

The Sukiasyans have been able to also address another danger threatening their children by renovating the room with semi-dark and moldy walls with the help that came as part of support from partner organizations.

“Our partnership with VivaCell-MTS was initially focused on supporting families living in borderland villages, but we should not neglect the issue of the disaster zone housing and the problem of other families in need of housing. The priority for this family was to repair the roof; but with our investment, we were also able to solve the problem of renovating the interior,” Fuller Center for Housing Armenia President Ashot Yeghiazaryan said.

These days, construction works are underway in various regions of Armenia as part of the partnership between VivaCell-MTS and the Fuller Center for Housing Armenia.

ArmInfo. Thanks to today’s decision of the judge in the case of the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, a new legal state was born in the republic. Deputy  Chairman of the Armenian National Congress Party Levon Zurabyan  stated.

When the judge of Yerevan court of general jurisdiction Anna  Danibekyan today rejected the lawyer’s request to cancel the arrest  as a measure of restraint against the main defendant in the March 1  case, Robert Kocharyan, citizens gathered in the courtyard of the  court who demanded life imprisonment for Kocharyan, at the call of  the  “Armenian National Congress” party’s deputy chairman Levon  Zurabyan moved to the Myasnikyan monument, paying tribute to the  memory of the victims of March 1.

Speaking to opponents of Kocharyan, Zurabyan called today’s decision  of the judge a victory of justice, saying that thanks to this  decision the republic changed its face and a new legal state was born  in Armenia.  “Today, not just Robert Kocharyan lost, or some  political force won. Today robbers, looters were defeated, today  those authorities who thought that using decades of state power could  rob their own people and then shoot at it when it rebels, lost. Today  Armenia has won, a law-abiding citizen has won, democracy has won,  justice has won, “Zurabyan chanted, noting that the” struggle “and  the” war “are continuing.

Yerevan Municipality: We are looking for legal ways for the amount paid to Sanitek reaches its employees

Sept 18 2019

ArmInfo.Employees of “Sanitek” Sanitary cleaning and waste collection company, which is in Yerevan the monopoly company in this direction, on September 18 again held a protest rally in front of the city hall with a demand to pay them  salaries for August.

According to the protesters, they arrived at the city hall to find  out whether the payments to Sanitek’s accounts were actually listed  or not. The protesters noted that they want to understand who owes  them the money, and if they still do not receive a salary, against  whom they must go to court. One of the protesters also emphasized  that the bankrupt “Sanitek” periodically paid them less, and now it  does not even issue final payments.

A spokesman for the Mayor of Yerevan, Hakob Karapetyan, meet with the  participants of the rally and presented them with a certificate  confirmed by a seal and a signature saying that the Mayor’s office  transferred to Sanitek a sufficient amount to pay salaries (transfer  in the amount of 165 million drams).  However, as Karapetyan noted,  the mayor’s office cannot answer the question of why the company  didn’t pay the employees the money they owed.

Sports: Why did Armenia’s team fail to win gold in Nur-Sultan? (PHOTOS)

2019 Senior Wrestling World Championships in Nur-Sultan completed. The Armenian team with nine participants won two medals. Artur Aleksanyan and Slavik Galstyan became medalists. And Artur Alexanyan and Karapet Zalyan will head to Olympic Games. Slavik Galstyan became a bronze medalist in the non-Olympic weight category.

Armenia’s “revolutionary” team and world championship

For the Armenian national team, this championship was not a lucky one. Artur Alexanyan became a silver medalist, Slavik Galstyan won a bronze.

The Armenian national team missed two, if not three, gold medals as Artur Aleksanyan withdrew from the final due to rib injury and the Russian representative Musa Yevloyev won a gold medal.

Karapet Zalyan was in a hurry that’s why he missed the chance to win the gold medal. Slavik Galstyan lost to Stepan Maranyan in the semifinals, but he was also very close to the gold medal. Karen Aslanyan also had the opportunity to reach the final, if there was no referee bias.

Artur Alexanyan’s gift to Musa Yevloyev

Artur Alexanyan was the only favorite in the 97kg category at the World Championships but he had very strong opponents. Artur faced the toughest group and made it to the finals. In the qualifying stage, Artur Aleksanyan (97 kg category) competed with Belarus’s representative Aleksandr Hrabovik and beat him 5-0, Finnish wrestler Kusmanen (10-0), Turkish Cenk Ildem (4-2), Iranian Saravi (4-3) and Georgian Georgy Melia (3-1).

Artur Aleksanyan won the Turkish representative but suffered a serious rib injury. He fought hard in the 1/2 finals, but was no longer able to conceal the injury and restrain the severe pain and after the clash with his Georgian counterpart he could not even breathe in his way to the hall after the clash.

It was the worst thing that could have happened to him and was the biggest gift to Yevloyev before the final. The Armenian coaching staff and the head of the Armenian delegation Arayik Baghdadyan discussed Artur Alexanyan’s participation. Minutes before the start of the final, Arayik Baghdadyan announced their position: Artur Alexanyan will not fight. This was probably the best decision in this case, but the worst for Artur Alexanyan as he had only one step left to become a four-time world champion.

The Russian wrestler celebrated his victory as Alexanyan just gave him the medal. Maybe years later no one will remember that Yevloyev became a world champion even without fighting.
