Pakistan opposes Armenian action on Upper Karabakh

KARACHI, Pakistan

Pakistan on Monday opposed unilateral action by Armenia to change the status quo in the Upper Karabakh region, urging Yerevan to respect UN Security Council resolutions on the disputed region.

Speaking at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Contact Group meeting on Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the Upper Karabakh dispute was “a threat to regional peace and stability”, likening it to the Jammu and Kashmir conflict between Pakistan and India.

“Pakistan is against the action of Armenia to change geography, population, economic, social and cultural identity and institutional structure in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Qureshi said, according to state-run Radio Pakistan.

Noting that the conflict that erupted in 1994 has displaced one million people, Qureshi urged Armenia to respect Azerbaijan’s integrity and sovereignty and withdraw its forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territory of Upper Karabakh, in line with previous UN Security Council resolutions.

During the meeting which was held at the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Qureshi called on the world to resolve the simmering dispute and ensure repatriation of displaced people.

Upper Karabakh is the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan illegally occupied by Armenia through military aggression since 1991.

The Armenian occupation of the historical Azerbaijani lands led Turkey — which sides with Baku in the conflict — to close its frontier with Armenia.

The political supporter of RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, businessman Khachatur Sukiasyan does not think that the current authorities have targeted the companies of the big businessman, PAP chairman Gagik Tsarukyan.

“I don’t think so Gagik Tsarukyan the companies are targeted”, said Khachatur Sukiasyan, head of “Sil” concern, well-known businessman, in a conversation with journalists in Gyumri on September 21, referring to the fact that inspections are underway in the companies of the PAP leader, and the general director of “Multi Group”. Sedrak Arustamyan charged with “North-South” and money laundering cases.

Khachatur Sukiasyan, who is also Gagik Tsarukyan’s brother-in-law, believes that it is about strengthening the legal state.

“I think that if we want to become a legal state, it doesn’t matter if it is Gagik Tsarukyan’s company or Khachatur Sukiasyan’s or a third party’s, we have to go that way. I don’t see that they are targeted. Of course, everyone’s organizations in Armenia should be equal, and any state body should have the right to check any organization and understand whether that organization has fulfilled its obligations towards the state or not,” he is confident.

And here, in his opinion, it does not matter whose organization or business structure we are talking about. “And with that, we can say that we have a legal state,” emphasized Sukiasyan.

During the preliminary investigation of the criminal case on the cases of apparent abuses committed during the development and implementation of the “North-South Road Corridor” project in the main department of the RA Investigative Committee’s investigation, he actually managed the activities of “Stones” SP company. Sedrak Arustamyan (he too Gagik Tsarukyan is the head of the “Multi Group” concern) was also charged with committing a criminal act provided for by Article 190, Part 3, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code, that is, for legalizing particularly large amounts of property obtained through criminal means (money laundering).

On September 18, 2019, Sedrakyan was charged under Article 38-189, Part 3, and Article 38-205, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code.

According to the criminal case, it is about 2.7 billion drams. Petitions were submitted to the court by Sedrak Arustamyan, who actually managed the activities of “Stones” SP company. Suren Avagyan, Gurgen Sargsyan about choosing detention as a preventive measure. As of today, 15 persons have the status of accused in the criminal case.

Mr. Vanetsyan spoke about the officer’s honor in his statement. The fact that he, being the de jure director of the National Security Service, makes a statement against his supreme commander, there is no greater dishonor to the officer’s honor than that. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this during a press conference in Los Angeles, referring to Artur Vanetsyan’s resignation, the latter’s statement and the removal of that statement from the official website of the NSS.

“It’s a lot… by the way, I didn’t even know that that statement… I found out later that it was posted on the website of the NSS. And then, even after the signing of the decree, questions arise… Would an officer do such a thing? You know what that is? It means throwing the shoulder straps in the trash, because the putschists of 1991 did such a thing last time. RA is not the country where such a thing can happen. it’s an insult to the military. And I am very happy that the public of Armenia has given its assessment to this phenomenon very clearly,” he said.

To remind, Artur Vanetsyan submitted his resignation to RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on September 16.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says the attempts to ascribe the revolution to other people are disrespect to the Armenian people. He is confident the Armenian people did the revolution, Pashinyan told reporters in Los Angeles.

“The truth is the following: I personally did one thing – I said I think that we have a situation that is problematic, I personally take a step for this situation, those who have steps, can do that. And it turned out that many people have steps to take. It has been created and formed by the people. The people of Armenia carried out the revolution. Yes, I did my step, but if the others didn’t do that, nothing would happen”, the PM said, adding that the authors of conspiracy theory circulate versions according to which the revolution was planned somewhere, the place where usually the famous revolutions are being planned.

Pashinyan urged all sides to calm down because those who were in Armenia and not in their offices, know who did the revolution and how. The PM said the revolution took place in a live broadcast, and this story has not just started, it has a long history and has been created, formed and taken place before everybody’s eyes. “There was a time when this story was followed by 5 people, and then by 50, 500 and later by all Armenians. This revolution has been done by the Armenian people. And those who want to ascribe the copyright of the Armenian people to others, to foreigners, just show disrespect to the Armenian people. They thought in this way in the past, the result of their rule has been so, they thought that the Armenian people do not have an identity, a will and goals, that they are manageable people. They were used to that the people should not decide who must become an MP in the elections. No, this will not happen anymore. The Armenian people have statehood, identity and dignity, and those who want to mix Soros or other things, just want to insult the dignity of the Armenian people”, Pashinyan said.

“Armenia is a sovereign and developing state,” he added, in particular. “And having economic revolution and the diversification of national security on its agenda, it proposes to discuss cooperation [in several domains] (…).

“Armenia is ready to discuss options to buy American weapons (…), and to make it clear to the USA that the Armenian side is definitely going to oppose the [Russian FM Sergey] Lavrov plan [toward resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict], and it needs US support—at least not to obstruct.

“And several dozen more matters that cannot be voiced, but shall be discussed so that we have specificity and move forward.”
