On March 23. The Armenia Church marks the commemoration of the fathers of the Armenian Church – St. John the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Armenian Patriarch St. John of Otzoon, St. John of Vorotan and St. Gregory of Datev.

Qahana.am reports that According to hagiographers, St. John (Hovhannes) of Otzoon possessed both spiritual and mental brilliance. During the 11 years of his reign (717-728), Catholicos Hovhannes managed to withstand Byzantine and Arab pressures and incursions, while struggling mightily against sects. Hovhannes of Otzoon endowed to us a rich and priceless literary legacy. His work entitled “Canons of the Armenians” is the first voluminous collection in Armenian history, which contains ecclesiastical canons and laws. He is also famous as the author of numerous sermons and church hymns.

The names of Vartabeds (church divine or archimandrite) St John (Hovhan) of Vorotan (1315-1388) and St. Gregory of Datev (1346-1410) are closely interrelated. Gregory of Datev, the greatest Vartabed and theologian of the Armenian Church, studied under Hovhan of Vorotan, and later raised the famous school founded by his teacher in the Monastery of Datev. Gregory of Datev authored numerous significant theological works. Included in his literary legacy are the “Book of Questions” and the collections of his sermons.

Finally, the blessed memory of St. John the Patriarch of Jerusalem is commemorated on the same day, along with the aforementioned three fathers of the Armenian Church. St. John was Patriarch of Jerusalem in the 4th Century. He is remembered to this day as being a great orator and a defender of Christianity through his sermons.

Armenian-Australian Gladys Berejiklian has become  the first elected female Premier of Australia’s largest state of New South Wales. The Leader of the Opposition Michael Daley has conceded defeat, and Berejiklian has accepted victory.

A gracious Berejiklian thanked many in her speech, reserving special praise for the people of New South Wales: “No matter your background or where you live, you can be the Premier of New South Wales – a state where someone with a long surname and a woman can be the Premier.”

Berejiklian’s victory has ensured she also makes history as the first leader of the Liberal (LIB) and National (NAT) Coalition to lead her political party to a third consecutive term in office.

“This is a historic day for Armenian-Australians and for the global Armenian community, as Ms Berejiklian continues to be the most powerful Armenian woman in world politics; this time being elected in her own right to lead the executive branch of a government that runs a state of 7 million people – the largest state of a G20 nation,” said  Haig Kayserian, Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU).

“The Armenian community of New South Wales is filled with joy, as support for Ms Berejiklian extends beyond party politics – the opportunity for an Armenian-Australian, for ‘Our Gladys’ to be elected was too big not to get completely behind,” Kayserian added.

US President Donald Trump’s statement on the Golan Heights is directly proportional to the issue of Karabakh’s hydrosecurity, Davit Babayan, press secretary of the President of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic/NKR), told the Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“The statement of the U.S. President Donald Trump concerning the fact that the Golan Heights is an integral part of Israel as it is an important component of security in that country and provides stability in the region, is a very significant and unprecedented statement, especially in the context of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict. Everything here is a symbolism. Even the announcement was made on the eve of the International Water Day, because the Golan Heights first of all is Israel’s hydrodonor, which is home to the source of the largest Jordan River in Israel.”

David Babayan recalled that even 50 years before the establishment of the state of Israel,v arious circles of the Jewish diaspora emphasized the importance of controlling the sources of Jordan as a critical component of the security of a future state.

“Trump emphasized safety without any reference to history. In this context, we have a powerful opportunity to actively promote the importance of Karvachar from the point of view of ensuring the critical security component of Armenia and Artsakh. Karvachar, just as the Golan Heights is a hydrodonor region from purely strategic point of view. Not to use messages of the great power in this context it is simply inadmissible”, – David Babayan concluded.

David Babayan: There is no alternative to Karabakh independence David Babayan: There is no alternative to Karabakh independence

There is no alternative to the independent statehood of Karabakh, Davit Babayan, press secretary of the President of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic/NKR), said during Facebook live.

He recalled that during the stormy times of the Artsakh liberation movement, the demand to unite Karabakh with  Armenia gave birth to a new policy. “Of course, we did not abandon the idea of unification, but the realities did not allow us to realize sincere feelings, and the alternative became the formation of an independent state. If the emphasis was on reunification at that time, the national liberation struggle would have been turned into a territorial dispute, ”said David Babayan.

According to him, feature of our situation is that we have a free independent homeland with two citadels – Armenia and Artsakh. This option allows to protect of national interests in the most difficult conditions of the clash of geopolitical interests as much as possible. Armenia and Artsakh are organically linked, but they are strongholds of the same homeland, Babayan stressed.
