Music: 13 pianists competing for the main award at Aram Khachaturian International Competition

The semi-final round of the 15th Khachaturian International Competition is underway on June 10 at Yerevan specialized secondary music school named after Tchaikovsky. According to Aram Khachaturian Competition Cultural Foundation, 13 participants have passed to the semi-final round for the main award and the prizes.

The final round of the competition will take place on June 12. The finalists will perform with the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia which is the official symphony of the competition.

The Khachaturian International Competition is held in Yerevan from June 6 to June 14 every year starting from 2003. For the first time it was implemented within the framework of events, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of great composer. In 2013 the Khachaturian competition was elected as a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions becoming the only Armenian competition ever honored with such a privilege.

15-year-old Russian-Armenian pianist Eva Gevorgyan won the $10,000 second prize of the 2019 Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition held in Dallas, Texas, from 31 May to June 8.

The young pianist also received the Press Award (an additional prize of $500), Panorama.am learned from the official website of the competition.

Shuan Hern Lee, 16, of Australia won the $15,000 first prize, while South Korea’s JiWon Yang, 17, won the $5,000 third prize.

In the final round held on Saturday afternoon, each of the finalists performed full concertos with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Ruth Reinhardt. A total of 23 pianists aged 13-17 took part in the competition.

Eva is studying at the music school under the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. She has been playing the piano since 3 years of age. Eva has been taking part in international music competitions and festivals since she was 15 years old, winning all of them.

According to the experts, Eva does not simply play; she strives to convey the music to the audience in its full depth and beauty.

During the meeting the sides exchanged ideas over the Armenian-Russian cultural similarities and strenghening cooperation in humanitarian fields.

ST. PETERSBURG, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says he sees the future of Armenia in the development of innovative economy.

“We see Armenia’s future in the development of innovative economy. This has no alternative for a country like Armenia. The technology sector is a priority for us. Education in this direction is gaining special significance for us. Armenia has inherited a good school of physics and mathematics from the Soviet years, and today we are doing everything possible to consolidate and utilize this potential,” the Armenian PM said at the 2019 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Pashinyan noted that during the past 7 years the IT sector grew five times in Armenia, and it became one of the economy’s moving force and the most promising industry.

“Education and innovation, cooperation and integration, establishment of the rule of law and effective governance – this is where we see our potential advantage that allows us to fully utilize our resources and achieve conditions for a sustainable economic development,” he said.

ST. PETERSBURG, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. PM Nikol Pashinyan talked about the political and economic changes that are taking place in Armenia during remarks at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The Armenian PM said these changes are aimed at raising the efficiency of political and economic institutions’ activities, ARMENPRESS correspondent reports.

“Today, Armenia is going through an important chapter in its modern history. On the background of political stability and unprecedented legitimacy of authorities fundamental transformations are taking place in the country. The final goal of these changes is to create a competitive and technologically advanced economy and modern society, based on universal principles of equality, justice and the rule of law. What is the essence of these transformations? In short, they are aimed at increasing the efficiency of activities of our political and economic institutions,” Pashinyan said.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan highlights the institutionalization of access to global economic centers for Armenia, the correspondent of ARMENPRESS reports Pashinyan said during his speech at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. “For countries like Armenia the institutionalization of access to global economic centers is very important. This is first of all about our cooperation with Russia and membership to the Eurasian Economic Union. We are ready for future improvement of our strategic partnership with Russia and maximally raising the effectiveness of our membership to the EAEU. For achieving that goal we will make al efforts to improve the cooperation mechanisms between the members of our union and maximally deepening the integration. This applies equally to our CSTO membership”, Pashinyan said.

Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia is interested in expanding the external economic relations of the EAEU. “In this context China has a special importance. I am glad to note that during the recent period we have recorded high level of dynamics and development of relations with that country, which is one of the key actors of the global economy. As an EAEU member state we highlight the creation of institutional cooperation with different integration unions and initiatives. I prioritize the implementation of the idea of conjunction of EAEU and Silk Road Economic Belt, it’s totally rational and reasonable”, the Armenian PM said.

ST. PETERSBURG, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan finds the policy of deepening cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union to be promising.

“I think, if not in the nearest future, then in mid-term period this cooperation is realizable and even unavoidable,” Pashinyan said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

He said that partnership with the EU doesn’t anyhow contradict Armenia’s membership to the EEU.

“Armenia has a Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with the European Union, which we intend to utilize with maximum efficiency to implement our reforms. Our partnership with the EU doesn’t anyhow contradict our membership to the EEU, it supplements it, enriching our opportunities in terms of new competitive advantages,” Pashinyan said.

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan urges international partners to become richer in Armenia, making Armenia richer, the correspondent of ARMENPRESS reports Pashinyan said during his speech at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“The value added tax increase in the first half of this year was 7.1% in Armenia, while economic activity index amounted to 9.2% in April, so I invite the international business to make investments in Armenia. We even have a slogan for potential investors – We invite them to Armenia to become richer and make our country richer”, Pashinyan said.

YEREVAN, 7 JUNE, ARMENPRESS. The Central Bank of Armenia informs “Armenpress” that today, 7 June, USD exchange rate is up by 0.04 drams to 479.61 drams. EUR exchange rate is up by 0.95 drams to 539.75 drams. Russian Ruble exchange rate is up by 0.01 drams to 7.37 drams. GBP exchange rate is up by 0.91 drams to 609.68 drams.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Gold price is up by 8.66 drams to 20593.17 drams. Silver price is up by 1.79 drams to 230.6 drams. Platinum price is down by 384.44 drams to 12366.69 drams.
