Sports: Junior World Championships: Three Armenian wrestlers to compete for bronze

The Junior World Wrestling Championships have kicked off in Tallinn, Estonia, with the first competition day started by performances of freestyle wrestlers.

Armenian wrestler Vrezh Gevorgyan at 57 kg started the struggle from the qualification round where he took a 10-0 win over Italian Tommaso Frezza, the National Olympic Committee’s press service reported.

In the 1/8 finals his opponent was German Horst Lehr whom the Armenian wrestler beat 6-4. In the quarterfinals Vrezh gained advantage 4-2 over Chinese Weiyu Li but in the semifinals lost 2-12 to Japanese Toshiya Abe. The Armenian athlete he will wrestle for a bronze medal on Wednesday.

In the 63 kg weight class European U23 current champion Vazgen Tevanyan entered the competition from the 1/8 finals where he took a 10-0 victory over Korean Injong Hwang but lost 4-10 to Russia’s Kuban Shiraev in the quarterfinals.

The Russian wrestler reached the final and Tevanyan got a chance to spend a repechage bout and fight for a bronze medal. At 70 kg Arman Andreasyan started performing from the qualification round where he defeated China’s Jun Zhao 9-1. In the 1/8 finals he faced Lithuanian Pjotrs Golubevs whom Andreasyan beat 15-4.

In the quarterfinals the Armenian wrestler’s opponent was Iran’s Mohmmadsadegh Firouzpourbandpei whom Andriesyan conceded 1-6.

Later the Iranian wrestler lost too and Andreasyan lost the opportunity to fight for bronze.

At 79 kg weight class Arman Avagyan entered the competition from the qualification round defeating Estonian Erik Reinbok 4-1. In the 1/8 finals he beat Kazakh Tilek Kabykenov 6-4. In the quarterfinals he outcompeted Bulgarian Oktay Hasan 6=4, but in the semifinals the Armenian wrestler lost 2-3 to Russia’s Amkhad Tashukhadzhiev and tomorrow will fight for bronze.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 12, ARMENPRESS. Yerevan has been the most preferred summer destination for Russian tourists, with the dynamics of visits growing around a quarter times, RIA Novosti reported citing statistics issued by Tutu.ru, a Russian online travel platform.

Analysts used June 1 – October 1 2019 tickets and bookings and compared it with the previous year’s data.

“Yerevan became the most demanded foreign direction this summer, in the event when the number of those wanting to spend the summer in Georgia decreased nearly twice,” experts of the company said.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 12, ARMENPRESS. The Utair airlines flight UTA880 from Yerevan to Moscow took off from the Zvartnots Airport in the Armenian capital at 17:00 after a 10-hour delay.

The Boeing 737 was scheduled for takeoff at 07:05, August 12, but was delayed due to technical problems.

The Civil Aviation Committee had earlier said that Utair is working to fix the problem and that passengers would be provided with food and accommodation in the meanwhile.

Authorities did not elaborate what the “technical problem” was.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 12, ARMENPRESS. Artsakh’s Defense Army serviceman Arayik Ghazaryan, 19, abandoned the military position at about 12:00, August 12 in still unclarified circumstances, ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the Defense Ministry of Artsakh.

“According to the information spread by the Azerbaijani media, Ghazaryan is in Azerbaijan. Investigation is underway to clarify circumstances”, reads the statement of the Ministry.

The 2nd stage of the ”Step towards Home” project initiated by the Office of the  High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs kicked off in Tsakhadzor on August 12.  ARMENPRESS reports the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs informs that 190 Diaspora-Armenian youngsters from 28 countries, including Thailand, Montenegro, Qatar and Brazil, have arrived in Armenia.

”Welcome home. During the upcoming two weeks you will visit the sights of Armenia, will discover your Motherland, but the most important thing is that you will establish friendly relations and will be filled with new love towards Armenia”, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan said in his welcome remarks.

The partners of ”Step towards Home” project are ”Teach for Armenia”, ‘VisitArmenia” and ”World Vision” organizations.

200 participants from 300 countries participated in the 1st stage of the project.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 12, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with the relatives March 1 victims at the Government on August 12.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Pm Pashinyan said, ‘’I want to speak about the decision of the Government made at the last Cabinet meeting, which is about the monetary support to be provided to the successors of the victims. I want it to be clear, this is just a support and should not be taken for compensation, since the life of the citizen of the Republic of Armenia is beyond price. My position is that the final solution to this issue should be decided at the European Court of Human Rights. This decision is an interm step that reflects the political position of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. The future process should take place in the context of the decisions of the ECHR”.

The relatives of March 1 victims noted that following the velvet revolution they have great hopes and expressed confidence that the changes taking place in the country will give the opportunity to carry out a trustworthy investigation and fully expose the March 1 case.

The PM and the relatives of the victims exchanged views on the investigation process of March 1 case and the works aimed at the construction of a memorial dedicated to the memory of March 1 victims.
