Sanitek accuses Yerevan municipality of failure to pay 330 million drams

ARKA, Armenia

YEREVAN, September 2. /ARKA/. Sanitek Armenia, a  branch of Sanitek International Group –a multinational waste management company headquartered in Lebanon, accused the Yerevan Municipality of failing  to pay it 330 million drams. In a letter to Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan the company says  more than 300 million drams (about $630,000) were withheld from the amounts that were to be paid to the company in return for its services.

The company quotes the mayor as saying previously that  the municipality  is only responsible for making timely payments for garbage removal. The company says that a new company  created by the municipality  collects garbage with a gross violation of the law.

For several months, residents of Yerevan have been complaining over the failure of Sanitek’s Armenian division to collect garbage throughout the city.

Earlier, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan publicly expressed displeasure at the work of the Sanitek company, stressing that Yerevan residents will no longer tolerate its ineffective work.

In the spring of this year, Sanitek was twice fined for failing to fulfill its contractual obligations in the amount of 13 million drams (more than $26,800) and 26 million drams ($54,100).

Sanitek Armenia, the branch of Sanitek International Group –a multinational waste management company headquartered in Lebanon, was chosen by the Yerevan Municipality to handle sanitary cleaning and waste recycling of the capital city and until recently it was a monopolist in this business. -($1 – 476.17 drams)

Expert: New approaches have appeared in the Artsakh settlement

Arminfo, Armenia

David Stepanyan

ArmInfo.New approaches appeared in the Artsakh settlement, around which discussions are already underway and work is underway. Head of the International  Center for Human Development Tevan Poghosyan  expressed a similar  opinion to ArmInfo.

“However, until the return of Artsakh to the negotiation process, the  main problems will not be discussed.  For the most part, the results  of the meetings of the foreign ministers and the heads of Armenia and  Azerbaijan, discussion of various issues come down to just such a  conclusion. Before this return, we can discuss issues related to  managing the situation in Armenia -Azerbaijani border, regional  security problems, actions and measures in the direction of  increasing confidence, “he said.

In this light, Poghosyan assesses the upcoming meeting of the Foreign  Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar  Mammadyarov, as “yet another “. According to his forecasts, this is  exactly what the processes, statements and speeches made in Armenia  over the past month lead to.

On September 29, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan told  reporters about his upcoming meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart  Mmmadyarov. According to him, the meeting is planned to be held in  the near future, although there are no specific dates yet.

Not excluding the possibility of the ministers discussing the  aforementioned new approaches to the settlement, the expert believes  that the main line and the substantive part of the discussions will  be a continuation of Vienna, St. Petersburg, Geneva, Bishkek and all  the other meetings between the foreign ministers and the two states.

Since 1992, the OSCE Minsk Group, represented by the co-chairs from  Russia, the USA and France, has been engaged in the settlement of the  Karabakh conflict. Currently, the settlement process is nominally  taking place on the basis of the Madrid Principles put forward by the  OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in 2007 and updated in 2009.

Sanitek: Improper performance of the company`s services is the result of non-payment of funds provided by the contract with the municipality

ArmInfo. The improper performance of Sanitek’s services is the result of non-payment by the Municipality of Yerevan of the funds stipulated by the contract. This  is stated in the statement of the “Sanitek” company distributed on  Monday, September 2.

To note, earlier Sanitek issued a regular statement, warning about  the deterioration of garbage collection.  After that, the Yerevan  Municipality reported that for several days Sanitek, without a  written warning and an indication of the reasons, has been refusing  to fulfill its duties of garbage removal from the capital.

”As of today, Yerevan Mayor’s Office has refused to pay a total of  more than 330 million drams under two agreements, violating the  payment deadlines. It is noteworthy that part of the indicated amount  consists of fines stubbornly applied by the mayor’s office (which we  dispute in court), while the other part is not paid without any  justification and in violation of the contract”, the company’s  director Nicholas Tawil said in a letter.

The inability to fulfill its obligations are the result of  non-payments and will continue until the Yerevan Municipality fully  fulfills its payment obligations, the company threatens, recommending  the Yerevan administration to fully fulfill its payment obligations  established by the contract.

In turn, the press secretary of Yerevan Mayor Hakob Karapetyan,  commenting on the Sanitek statement, said that there is nothing new  in the words of Nicholas Tawil, and the fines written to the operator  were consistent with the contract and were written for non-performed  or incomplete work. “The evidence, to put it mildly, of the inferior  work of the Sanitek company in recent months, is visible at every  step, in the streets and yards of Yerevan,” Karapetyan said.
