YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has held a meeting today at the Government Headquarters with a group of residents of Jermuk, Vayots Dzor.

The meeting focused on the situation regarding the Amulsar gold mine project, the PM’s Office said in a news release.

Earlier in August PM Pashinyan personally visited the town of Jermuk and met the local population to discuss the matter.

“In particular, the Environmental Impact Assessment procedures, the monitoring issue, the legal, economic and environmental aspects and public concerns were addressed,” reads the news release.

The PM attached importance to the government-society dialogue over issues of public concern and noted that the solution to the Amulsar issue must be based on Armenia’s balanced interest, and that future steps must be taken by taking into account the importance of viewing all components of the project in a complex whole, the PM’s Office said.

The Amulsar gold mine project, a program operated by Lydian Armenia – the subsidiary of gold developer Lydian Armenia – is currently stopped pending the government’s approval for resumption of operations. The Ministry of Environment has requested the National Academy of Sciences to assess the Environmental Impact Assessment of the project.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. The lawyers of 2nd President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan plan to file a motion to the court following the decision of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, demanding to suspend the detention of their client, ARMENPRESS was informed from the lawyers team of Robert Kocharyan.

The Constitutional Court of Armenia has issued its verdict over ex-President Robert Kocharyan’s appeal regarding his arrest.

Robert Kocharyan, currently in pre-trial detention on charges of “overthrowing constitutional order” during the 2008 Yerevan unrest, requested the Constitutional Court to determine whether or not his arrest is constitutional, i.e. whether paragraph 2 of Article 135 and Article 35 of the Criminal Procedures Code are in conformity with the Constitution.

On September 4, the Constitutional Court delivered a verdict, partly approving Kocharyan’s motion.

The Constitutional Court ruled that Article 35 of the Criminal Procedures Code contradicts respective articles of the Constitution and is invalid in terms of not envisaging official immunity among the circumstances which exclude criminal prosecution.

The Constitutional Court, however, ruled that paragraph 2 of Article 135 is constitutional.

Sports: ‘Can’t make this up!’ – Henrikh Mkhitaryan has got Arsenal fans talking after Armenia display

Football.London
Sept 8 2019

The Arsenal midfielder netted twice as Armenia defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina – less than a week after his loan move to Roma

Some Arsenal fans are in disbelief this afternoon (Sunday) after seeing Henrikh Mkhitaryan net twice for Armenia – less than one week after leaving the Gunners on loan.

It was a fine performance from Mkhitaryan as Armenia beat Bosnia-Herzegovina in a European Championships qualifier, with the 30-year-old bagging a brace and registering an assist to help his country to a 4-2 win.

Mkhitaryan opened the scoring in the third minute, before former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko equalised for Bosnia ten minutes later.

Armenia’s lead was restored by Mkhitaryan in the 66th minute with a thunderous strike after some neat build-up play, but Bosnia drew level once again four minutes later through Amer Gojak.

However, Mkhitaryan’s side were not finished and Hovhannes Hambardzumyan gave the hosts the advantage for a third time, before an own goal from Stjepan Loncar in injury time sealed the win for Armenia, with the Gunners man playing his part with an assist after his double earlier on in the game.

nd Mkhitaryan’s performance has prompted a reaction from Arsenal fans, who have not always seen the best of the midfielder following his move from Manchester United in January 2018.

Since then, Mkhitaryan has scored nine times in 58 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, with six goals in 38 games last season.

He did play three times for Unai Emery’s men this season prior to making the loan switch to Roma, where he is yet to feature, having headed off on international duty after completing the move to Italy.

But while he won’t be playing again for Arsenal this season, his performance for Armenia has got Gunners supporters talking today.

Here’s what some fans have been saying on social networking website Twitter this afternoon.

Sports: UEFA’s Aleksander Čeferin visits Armenia

UEFA.com
Sept 8 2019

The football relationship between UEFA and Armenia has been further reinforced by a visit to the country by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, which included talks with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has visited Armenia, where he held talks with the country’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and senior officials of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA).

At a meeting also attended by the FFA President, Artur Vanetsyan, Mr Pashinyan gave warm praise to UEFA for its crucial contribution to strengthening football in Armenia through its HatTrick and UEFA GROW programmes.

UEFA’s HatTrick assistance programme to its 55 member associations has contributed over the years, among other things, to the building of a football academy and national team technical centre in Armenia, and has helped give impetus to the development of regional youth football infrastructures.

“HatTrick is not about any one competition or the bigger countries,” Mr Čeferin said. “It is about developing football throughout our 55 countries.”

The FFA is implementing a nationwide project to improve the country’s footballing infrastructures. Among others, ten full-sized pitches have been built in different regions of Armenia. In addition, the building of artificial pitches is providing increased opportunities for young footballers to train throughout the year.

On the grassroots front, the association is striving for greater football participation, with the objective to get 80,000 children and adults involved in grassroots and amateur football. UEFA will also be assisting Armenia in its drive to develop women’s football and futsal.

As part of its UEFA GROW project aimed at helping the progress of Europe’s national associations and maximising their potential, UEFA has worked closely with the FFA on drawing up an overall association strategic plan, as well as a new communications strategy.

“The Prime Minister highlighted the close and productive cooperation between UEFA and the Football Federation of Armenia for the benefit of the development of football in Armenia,” a statement said.

“Nikol Pashinyan appreciated UEFA’s support for the development of football infrastructures in Armenia, noting that as a result, a range of projects aimed at popularising football are underway in our country.

“The Premier expressed confidence,” the statement continued, “that the UEFA President’s visit would foster partnership between the UEFA and the Football Federation of Armenia, including the construction of a new national stadium in our country.”

Aleksander Čeferin praised the work being undertaken by the FFA to foster Armenian football at all levels. “The association is doing a great job,” he said. “We have a friendly relationship, and I’m sure that football in Armenia will only go upwards.

“The cooperation of the Armenian Football Federation with UEFA is at a high level,” added Artur Vanetsyan. “We implement many joint projects, and we hope that in the coming years, this cooperation will become even closer.”

“We have discussed important issues during the visit of the UEFA President,” said FFA General Secretary Armen Melikbekyan, “such as the development of football in the regions of Armenia, the need for a bigger national stadium and the prospects for development of grassroots and youth football.”

The Armenian FA has also proved itself to be an excellent organiser of a UEFA final tournament, staging the latest UEFA European Under-19 Championship finals in the capital Yerevan in July.

Aleksander Čeferin said he hoped that the Under-19 event would leave a legacy for Armenia. “It’s necessary to host competitions like this to promote football for the future,” he explained.
