The invention of an Armenian graduate of Cambridge University can revolutionize the industry of power supplied devices.

Amalya Kostanyan, a scholarship holder of Luys Foundation, specializes in nanostructures. She and her team design new generation screens based on the nanostructures, and the screens are entirely carbon-based.

“They are useful by the fact that they can be designed by new types of materials which are entirely made in laboratory conditions and with our desired features. We can create devices which will completely change our environment, which will enable to substitute silicon-based made devices with nanostructure-based made devices in mass production”, she told reporters in Yerevan.

Amalya and her team already received the patent with the University of Cambridge and are thinking about mass production.

Since the basis of the innovation is mainly the industry with organic materials it will be possible to apply in any industry.

“Imagine paper think phones, tablets which require almost no power for operation. They can be applied in healthcare, for example there are devices which check the heart and other organ functions during the day”, the young scientist said.

“It will be possible to use this device for three years with only half an hour of charging”, she said.

Kostanyan said they are currently discussing what resources can be used to establish a laboratory operating with such technologies in Armenia.

In the summer of 2015, fourteen-year old Ani Gevorgyan from the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic/NKR) had presented renowned physicist Stephen Hawking with his portrait made from crinoid fossil stones, which are found in Astghashen community in Artsakh’s Askeran Region.

Gevorgyan told ARTSAKHpress news agency that she got interested in Hawking when she learned that he had become a world-renowned scientist despite his limited physical abilities.

“I was excited,” she said. “And when in 2015 I was told that renowned astrophysicist Garik Israyelyan—who knew Hawking personally—was in Artsakh, I asked him to present to the great scientist his portrait made by me.

“Later, I was informed that my gift had reached the addressee and that he liked it a lot.’’

Stephen Hawking died Wednesday at the age of 76.

He was a leading theoretical physicist and cosmologist.

Tigran Petrosyan analyzes Aronian-Karjakin game

Armenian chess lovers have been waiting for an Aronian win in the Candidates Tournament with their breaths held, and the grandmaster finally delivered.

Levon Aronian has recorded a confident, beautiful win over Sergey Karjakin (Russia) in the fourth round.

Two-time World Olympiad winner, grandmaster Tigran Petrosyan has analyzed the game for Mediamax Sport readers.

This win was anticipated indeed. I congratulate Levon.

It was clear from the beginning of the game that Levon prepared better and would play for the win only. Until the 14th or 15th move, the position was one played by other chess players too, but Levon did his homework with more attention and acted more competently.

After the 22nd move, when the players exchanged queens, Aronian had one pawn more. Nevertheless, it was too early to relax and Levon needed to continue his careful, competent work.

Levon was playing in his style yesterday, very quickly and confidently, which was another factor hushing Karjakin.

Step by step, Aronian strengthened the position of all his pieces until he got a rook ending. Finally, he used perfectly well his three pawns.

I hope this win will inspire him and lead to more success in the upcoming games.

Levon Aronian will face Alexander Grischuk (Russia) in the 5th round of Candidates Tournament today.

Here’s How Kim Kardashian’s Armenian Culture Still Influences Her Life

When it came to celebrating her birthday in October 2017, Kim gathered all of her family and friends at Carousel in LA. The Armenian restaurant has been a favorite of her family’s since she was a little girl, and she was thrilled to receive an “Armenian style” white cake with her photo on it for the special occasion.

However, being Armenian is more than just enjoying the food to Kim. In 2016 she wrote an open letter in TIME magazine to raise awareness for the Armenian genocide. “When we grew up, all my father did was talk about our heritage,” she explained. “It was such a big part of our life: We’d eat Armenian food, we would listen to stories — my dad was really outspoken about our history.” That history included her great-great-grandparents leaving Armenia before the 1915 war. “Had they not escaped, we wouldn’t be here,” she wrote.

Kim and her sisters actually went to Armenia in 2015 to visit with their cousins and bring awareness to their country’s struggles. “An emotional day at the genocide museum,” she tweeted, along with a photo of herself at the museum. She and Khloe also visited the Dzidzernagapert Armenian Genocide monument’s eternal flame, and left flowers to honor the fallen. “My sister and I are trying to bring awareness not only to our Armenian genocide but genocides and human slaughter, in general,” said Khloe. “Knowledge is power!” We love how the Kardashians never lose sight of who they are!

Turkey slams US congressmen buoying Karabakh occupation

Turkey’s prime minister on Thursday slammed members of the U.S. Congress for meeting with the so-called leader of Nagorno-Karabakh, an Azerbaijani territory occupied by Armenians.

Taking reporters’ question in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, Binali Yildirim urged U.S. leaders to hold Armenia accountable for its crimes in Nagorno-Karabakh rather than meeting with occupiers and receiving a so-called “medal of gratitude” from them.

On Wednesday, a group of eight U.S. congressmen met at Washington’s Capitol building with Bako Sahakyan, Nagorno-Karabakh’s so-called leader, and accepted the “medal.” The congressmen are known for supporting the occupation.

Azerbaijan and Armenia remain in dispute over the occupied Karabakh region. Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan in 1991 with Armenian military support, and a peace process has yet to be implemented.

Three UN Security Council Resolutions and two UN General Assembly Resolutions refer to Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe refers to the region as being occupied by Armenian forces.

Turkey reiterates that the dispute needs to be resolved within the framework of international law and Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Speaking at the Sixth Global Baku Forum in Azerbaijan, Yildirim added: “Turkey and Azerbaijan are working together in counter-terrorism and establishing regional security.”

Reasserting that Upper Karabakh is Azerbaijan’s “rightful cause,” he stated that if there is a terror threat against Turkey or Azerbaijan from the occupied region, it will receive a response.

On Turkish-Azerbaijani ties, he said: “From now on, regional cooperation, cultural relations, and developing tourism will be enhanced as investments in infrastructure projects are increased.”
