Environmentalists: After a while, the water of Sevan will not even be used for irrigation (video)

Members of “T.O.T Sevan” initiative held a protest action in front of the National Assembly in support of Lake Sevan.

They protest against the draft law “On making changes in RA Law on Approving Annual and Complex Programs for Restoration, Preservation, Reproduction and Usage of Lake Sevan Ecosystem.”

The action participants noted that if the law is adopted, it will be a real disaster for Sevan.

According to environmentalists, at this moment, the balance of Lake Sevan is negative. In case of excessive water loss, Lake Sevan will be in danger. This year’s water pollution and its algae were no coincidence. After a while, the water of Sevan will not even be used for irrigation.

The participants of the action are sure that taking water from Sevan will not help the Ararat province villagers solve their problems, as these problems are not related to the water intake but to poor management. According to another opinion, the water will be used to operate the Hydroelectric Power Station.

Aharon Adibekyan: Kiev was founded by Armenians, Queen of England is Armenian (video)

Sociologist Aharon Adibekyan believes that Kiev was founded by Armenians. Today, at a meeting with journalists, he told about the Armenian trace in Russian history and culture. According to him, the creation and construction of Moscow is also connected with Armenians.

“The Russian alphabet has 36 letters, just like the Armenian. If the creators did not have Armenian origin, they would create it like the Greek, using 24 letters,” says the sociologist.

“The Russians also adopted Christianity through Armenians,” adds Aharon Adibekyan and emphasizes that Armenians and Russians have spiritual and historical-cultural ties for centuries.

Besides the Russians, the sociologist sees links between the British and the Armenians, too.

“The queen of England is armenoed with a skull. In the oldest tradition, Armenians have come to these islands, but English historians reject it. But if we look at the Irish, we will find a similarity,” says sociologist Aharon Adibekyan and adds that Armenians should show their contribution to world history.

Robert Kocharyan’s Interview with NTV Media company

“The situation is quite interesting and to say that the authorities do not have experience will be very mild. During latest rally, for example, it was stated that in Armenia, a new system of state governance has been created, and the revolutionary square has been declared the supreme authority. I’m not joking, I’m quoting,” said Robert Kocharyan to a Russian TV channel.

According to him, the new authorities of Armenia simply do not understand what the mechanism of the state governance is.

“It is announced that the government is accountable for that square. For example, I was frankly thinking that the government is accountable to the National Assembly. What is happening in Armenia is irrelevant populism, the consequences of which, as it seems to me, will hinder the development of the country for a long time,” Kocharyan said.

He noted that there is a revolutionary euphoria that cannot last long.

And all this worries Kocharyan and that is why he came back to politics again.

Asbarez: Yerevan Will Veto Baku’s Membership in CSTO, EEU

Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan during a press briefing Tuesday

YEREVAN—Armenia will exercise its right to veto in the event of Azerbaijan’s application to join the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union, said Armenia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan during Tuesday’s press briefing.

“Such discussions actually are taking place within analytical circles, but those discussions—and circles—are happening and are based on intelligence. I will express the official position of Armenia’s foreign ministry. If such an issue is brought up, Armenia will use its right to veto,” she Naghdalyan.

Explaining that issues of membership and participation in the two organizations are made through consensus of member-states, Naghdalyan stressed that official Yerevan has clearly conveyed its position in order to avoid double standards. She also said that Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan has clearly conveyed this position during discussions about future CSTO and EEU expansion.

Armenia’s role in the CSTO has been come front and center since Armenia’s Prosecutor General last month charged its current secretary-general Yuri Khachaturov of breaching Armenia’s constitutional order when he was Armenia’s deputy defense minister. The charges are related to post-election protests, which resulted in the deaths of eight civilians and two police officers during a standoff on March 1, 2008. Khachaturov was released on bail and allowed to return to Moscow to continue his duties as head of the Russia-led military alliance.

Armenia began the application process to replace Khachaturov, however the criminal proceedings against him did not sit well with Moscow, prompting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to tersely criticize Yerevan for what he called “political” trials.

Naghdalyan also briefed reporters on the ongoing process to replace Khachaturov saying that a number of meetings with various players in the organization at all levels have been held, “in accordance with the existing rules of procedures aimed at finding consensus solutions.”

Naghdalyan explained that based on earlier decisions, Armenia will retain the leadership of the CSTO until 2020, hence efforts are underway to propose a suitable replacement for Khachaturov.

On another note, Naghdalyan reported that the foreign ministry was preparing concrete proposals and programs for the advancement of relations between Armenia and the European Union, following last week’s visit to Yerevan by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

She explained that certain agreements were reached during meetings and discussions with Merkel, among them pursuing a visa-free regime between the EU and Armenia.
