Armenian goalkeeping legend Alyosha Abrahamyan has passed away at the age of 72.

Abrahamyan was a member of the FC Ararat team from Yerevan that won the USSR domestic championship in 1973 – the only Armenian team to capture the Soviet title.

Born on 28 August 1945 in Leninakan (now Gyumri), Abrahamyan took his first footballing steps in his native city, playing for the FC Shirak club in the mid-1960s.

Abrahamyan moved to Ararat, and he and his brother Furman – later to pass away in a road accident – were members of the Yerevan club’s team that finished second in the USSR top flight in 1971. He became renowned as one of the best goalkeepers in the USSR, and played a major role in Ararat’s superb league and cup “double” in 1973.

In 1975, Abrahamyan helped Ararat to another cup success. The 1974-75 season saw Ararat, inspired by Abrahamyan’s goalkeeping, reach the European Champion Clubs’ Cup quarter-finals before going out to Bayern Munich.

Abrahamyan ended his playing career in 1978, and immediately went into coaching. He was a long-serving goalkeeper coach for Ararat, FC Banants and FC Mika.

The 20 year old midfielder was part of the Plateau United side that won the 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Title contributing five goals.

Ngbede also registered a goal in the 2018 CAF Champions League campaign and he featured in all four matches before the team’s exit to the CAF Confederation Cup.

The creative winger whose greatest strength is precision with the use of the ball and great pace to get past his opposition is set to spot the no. 26 jersey for Lori FC in the new season after the club confirmed it at his unveiling.

Sunday Ngbede will be the fifth player to have left Plateau United this season, other players who have left for the proverbial golden fleece are Emeka Umeh, Peter Eneji, Okemuute Odah and Raphael Ayangwa.

Plateau United would now be hoping that the mass exit of several key players to foreign leagues would not be counter productive when the league resumes on September 2nd following a prolonged break in league matches.

Until now, the Armenian armed forces have had a clearly expressed image of a ground force, relying only on air defense and land-based missile means in the struggle for air supremacy. Times, however, have changed. The dynamic image to be conveyed to the armed forces also requires the presence of fighter-bomber aviation, as no missile system can replace this capability in terms of flexibility of use and resilience.

Ahead of the Shant-2018 strategic command and staff military exercise, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia will give a lecture on August 28 as part of the preparatory trainings held in the administrative complex of the Ministry of Defense.

Davit Tonoyan presented his vision to the officials regarding the development priorities of the defense sector and the main issues arising from them.

Referring to the prerequisites for the development of the armed forces, the head of the RA Defense Department emphasized the reality of constant learning, reform and making the army more mobile and maneuverable. “Horizontal communication, without bureaucratic hassles, should become the norm, not the exception. We will eliminate the artificial barriers that inhibit or seriously complicate cooperation, excluding, so to speak, the “tunnel” style of work, when individual circles advance their agendas without knowing the common idea that unites them,” said the RA Defense Minister.

Emphasizing the steps aimed at strengthening the armament of the army, modernization of the management system and the combat capability of the personnel, Minister Tonoyan assured that at the moment the works of updating the armament programs are in progress, within the framework of which it is planned to acquire multi-functional aviation as well. “Until now, the Armenian armed forces have had a clearly expressed image of a ground force, relying only on air defense and land-based missile means in the struggle for air supremacy. Times, however, have changed. The dynamic image to be conveyed to the armed forces also requires the presence of fighter-bomber aviation, as no a missile system will not replace this capability in terms of flexibility of use and resistance,” stressed Davit Tonoyan.

At the core of the lecture were the issues of equipping the front line with modern technical means and increasing the effectiveness of combat tasks. In this regard, the Minister of Defense emphasized that in 2016 in the second half and 2017 thanks to the works carried out during the war, the front-line armament was greatly improved with video surveillance and certification equipment, which allowed to significantly reduce the enemy’s chances of carrying out surprise sabotage. Measures are being taken to create an integrated system for detecting the enemy on the front line, making decisions, hitting the enemy with fire and engineering means and assessing the damage caused.

Minister Tonoyan singled out the priority of improving the ways of carrying out combat duty among the priority tasks before the Armed Forces, stressing that the time has come to make radical changes in the ways of carrying out daily combat tasks. “Our goal is to significantly reduce the duration of the personnel being under enemy fire, to increase the degree of protection and resistance, as well as to increase the probability of ambushing and destroying the enemy’s subversive groups,” said the Minister of Defense.

Referring to the other strategic approaches adopted in the defense system, Davit Tonoyan pointed out the priorities of morale-psychological training of the military personnel, material and medical provision and increasing the level of social protection, improvement of the military education system, as well as the expansion of international relations.

The appellate court rejected the appeal of Yuri Khachaturov, accused in the “March 1” case, General Secretary of the CSTO, leaving the decision of the court of first instance in effect.

According to Mihran Poghosyan, Khachaturov’s defense attorney, after indicting him, the pre-trial body submitted a motion to the court of first instance to detain Khachaturov. But, as the lawyer conveyed, the court, despite finding that there are no reasonable doubts that Khachaturov is related to the charge brought against him, at the same time found that the arrest was justified, but decided to apply bail as an alternative preventive measure and released Khachaturov on a bail of 5 million drams, “Azatutyun” radio station reports.

According to the lawyer, if the court decides that there are no reasonable doubts about the accusation, it should reject the motion to detain him, instead of considering the detention permissible. Poghosyan said that they were appealing this very circumstance to the appeals court.

Poghosyan has not yet received the decision of the appellant and after receiving it, he will specify whether to appeal to the cassation court or not.

To remind, CSTO General Secretary Yuri Khachaturov was charged under Article 300.1 of the RA Criminal Code – subverting the constitutional order.

A1+: Sergey Bagratyan: Without “digesting” the old one, you talk about new 40 million cubic meters (video)

During the discussion of the bill “On making changes to the RA law on restoration, conservation, reproduction and use of the Lake Sevan ecosystem,” PAP MP Sergey Bagratyan asked Inessa Gabayan, Water Committee Chairman, on what purpose the 100 million cubic meters water were used in the past and what effect this had.

“Without ‘digesting’ the old one, you talk about new 40 million cubic meters, and the justification is weak,” he said.

Inessa Gabayan replied that the Water Committee had already demanded a deficit of 80 million cubic meters at the beginning of the year.

In response to this, Sergey Bagratyan noticed that there is no justification in the bill.

“40 million is justified. As a result, we will have opportunity to get products from cultivated lands of 55,000 agricultural families,” added Inessa Gabayan.

To remind, the project envisages to take 40 million cubic meters of water from Sevan.
