Sports: What happens next in the Movsisyan story?

Real Salt Lake

July 7 2017

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Real Salt Lake have once again found themselves in unusual territory today by being the subject of another transfer rumour. For a club that often spends windows laying low, RSL has been at the forefront of the news over the last few weeks which is likely a positive for the fans. With the Joao Plata to Liga MX rumours now seeming like ancient history our next potential leaver has been tipped in out of sorts striker Yura Movsisyan apparently looking for a move to LA Galaxy.

We have plenty of coverage here and will continue to report back on all the news as we get it but there’s room for speculation here too. Whether he stays or goes, the ultimate end of this story will have a long lasting effect on the RSL season. While we’ve broken down the variables and covered the latest news for you, here’s a little insight into where this could go:

Yura goes, We sign somebody new

This is probably the most popular option perhaps with the office as well as the fans. The issues between Mike Petke and the 29 year old Armenian are slowly coming to a head and the unhappiness on the training ground is infectious, especially with a player who is no doubt well liked by his team mates. Yura moves to LA Galaxy (or one of the other clubs apparently interested) and opens up a big spot on the field and in the back balance with Real Salt Lake dive on to sign a new striker more suited to the playing style of the team. We’ve heard nothing about who could be coming to provide a healthy injection of goals but with the space left by Yura Movsisyan it could be a name equally as big.

Yura goes, We replace from within

Just as before, Yura leaves a hole in the team and in funds but with no targets available the club don’t snatch at just anybody to make the fans happy. While there will be a vocal criticism of the clubs running (which isn’t anything news to be fair) it would be much louder on the back of such a painful loss to the squad. Luis Silva would take up the role as point man in the attack with Plata and Jefferson Savarino backing him up. Lennon, Velazco and even Savarino himself may take that point role in hopes we find the right person to get us goals while we scout for a striker to build around.

Yura stays, Yet remains unhappy

With so many variables at play in such a big deal it’s possible this deal, if true, could fall through. Maybe LA get cold feet, maybe Yura does, maybe Real Salt Lake pulls the plug. Should Yura stay the issues we have off the field will stay the same. Yura will remain unhappy and continue to dedicate any goal celebrations he may get to do to Mike Petke while the two struggle to see eye to eye. Petke, to his credit, is able to work with players he disagrees with but it’s not a position anybody will be happy with. The tension continues to affect the players on the field and the season comes to a miserable ending. Sad Face Emoji.

Yura stays, Works out issues

Probably the most unlikely of the four here but the trade falls apart as before which leaves Mike and Yura no choice but to work out their issues, presumably on a spa weekend at Boca Raton. Yura finds his form and works out how to play Petke ball and while the season ends without a playoff place, the work for next season is made easier by keeping a player who’s ready to score lots of goals.

The International Recognition of Gampr Wolfhound Breed and Thievish Turks

All In Net.info

July 9 2017

The Armenian wolfhound Gampr was recognized by the International Kennel Union (IKU) on February 10, 2011 thanks to the efforts of Violetta Yurievna Gabrielyan, the president of the Kennel Union of Armenia and the initiator of the process of recognition of the breed at International level.

To make the approval of the breed possible, Armenian cynologists have prepared documents proving the origin of the breed and providing reasoning behind the need to recognize it as Armenian. The initiative became a necessity after the Turks presented the Gampr breed as Anatolian Rapabash at numerous international dog shows.

Gamprs have always been one of the most famous animal species from Armenia. According to Armenian scientists, Gamprs are mentioned even in ancient Roman sources.

A similar situation has also occurred several years ago. Turkey presented the Armenian mouflon as Anatolian mouflon and tried to make scientific circles to rename the breed.

The next mission of the organization is to fight against the false designation of Van cats, which are now known as Turkish Van cats. Today, Van cats live in the area of Lake Van in the territory of modern Turkey. It is a common pet among those who have been former residents of Turkey. In Armenia, 40 Van cats are registered today.

Film: Conservative MPs Pressure Culture Ministry to Ban Films Portraying "Realistic Picture" of Modern Iranian Life

Director Ali Ahmadzadeh’s film “Atomic Heart,” about the lives of young, modern Iranians, including Christians, could be removed from cinemas in Iran just weeks after a three-year ban on the movie was lifted.

“Although it was made in 2014, the film only recently received a screening permit,” Ahmadzadeh told the Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) in a recent interview. “Now there are threats to ban it again.”

“I tried to present a more realistic picture of Iranian girls and boys in a way that had not been done before in Iranian cinema,” he added. “But there are angry people and officials out there who, instead of standing up for the film for its realistic and lively portrayal, are criticizing it.”

On July 6, 2017, a group of conservative members of Iran’s Parliament wrote an open letter to the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry calling for a ban on “Atomic Heart” as well as “Oxidan,” a comedy by director Hamed Mojhammadi about a man who impersonates a Catholic priest to get a visa to the UK.

The letter said: “Given that the Holy Quran respects all religions and prophets of the book, and considering that supreme leader [Ali Khamenei’s] command to maintain national unity and mutual respect among monotheists in the struggle against [the US] and international Zionism, we expect the ministry will stop these two films from being distributed in order to prevent insults against holy religions and avoid discord among the great Iranian people.”

Other critics have claimed that some of the film’s characters display homosexual tendencies and that it undermines Iran’s right to nuclear technology.

“Even though it has been revised several times, ‘Atomic Heart’s’ achilles heel is still the homosexual themes surrounding the film’s main characters and challenging Islamic Iran’s firm stand on the right to have a nuclear industry,” said a review by Cinema Press, a website belonging to the conservative Islamic Society of Artists on June 11, 2017.

“Atomic Heart” was also attacked by the International Quran News Agency on June 16 for allegedly “undermining Iran’s legitimate nuclear rights and making fun of our popular Islamic diplomacy.”

Iranian-Armenians have also criticized the movie; one objection regards a scene wherein a policeman stops a car for suspected drunk driving. The driver, played by famous Iranian actress Taraneh Alidousti, defends herself for having had alcohol by saying, “I’m Christian.”

In a scathing review of the film, Iranian-Armenian actor Siamanto Barseghians wrote: “Taraneh Alidousti plays a role that shows Armenian girls as drunken creatures who take advantage of their Christian faith in an Islamic society. In other words, it represents the Christian community as a bunch of louts.”

While Muslims are not legally allowed to consume alcohol in the Islamic Republic, the private consumption of alcohol by Christians is allowed.

Iran’s small Christian community is primarily made up of ethnic Armenians and Assyrians.

While Iranian Muslim conservatives have reacted strongly to the films’ use of Christian characters and themes, Christian institutions in Iran have not shown any reaction.

Nevertheless, Mohabat News, an Iranian Christian website, reported on June 2 that “Atomic Heart” and “Oxidan” were met with “a lot of criticism among Armenians and Christians in general for how they were negatively represented.”

In the interview with CHRI, Ahmadzadeh insisted that critics who think Christians were belittled in “Atomic Heart” are wrong.

“In fact, the Christian girl is the best character in the film,” the director said. “I don’t understand why there should be objections to her drinking wine in the film. Why should we oppose everything that’s real?”

To date, the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry, which operates under President Hassan Rouhani, has not taken any action against the film. It has, however, banned other films in the past when faced with a wave of criticism from religious conservatives.

“The ministry has not said anything yet, but the film could be banned at any moment” Ahmadzadeh told CHRI. “I’m 30-years old and I have made three films in the past 10 years and all three have received angry reactions.”

His earlier film, “Kami’s Party,” was banned in Iran because the authorities said the female characters did not wear proper hijabs. The film nevertheless made its way to international film festivals.

In January 2017, less than three months into his new post as culture and Islamic guidance minister, Reza Salehi Amiri boasted about banning ten films from entering the Tehran Fajr International Film Festival, “in line with the policies of the supreme leader.”

“For the first time, we cut out films with feminist and inappropriate themes and supported 30 films made by young directors about the sacred defense [Iran-Iraq War],” he said during a meeting with Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, a senior Qom-based theologian.

Some Iranian directors who have had their films banned responded angrily to being subjected to extreme censorship.

“I will no longer make any films showing women wearing headscarves in a private space or in front of strangers,” said veteran Iranian director Kianoush Ayari on January 8, 2017, after he learned that his latest film, “Canopy,” was rejected even after he tried to pacify censors by showing four actresses wearing wigs to avoid religious objections to their shaved heads.

“I’m in this situation because of my commitment to realism,” he said.

BAKU: Azerbaijan strikes Armenian army positions to prevent another provocation

AzerNews, Azerbaijan
July 7 2017

By Rashid Shirinov

Armenian military units were put on alert on July 7 to stage another sabotage against Azerbaijan, said Azerbaijan’s defense ministry.

However, Azerbaijan’s armed forces inflicted precise blows to the positions of the Armenian armed forces to prevent the planned provocation by Armenia and as revenge for the civilians killed in the Alkhanli village of Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli region.

The Defense Ministry reported that as a result of the strikes, a major part of Armenia’s manpower was destroyed, and several units of military equipment were completely disabled.

“Based on initial information, as the result of the activities carried out by our units in Fuzuli-Khojavend direction, majority of the enemy personnel involved in battalion’s area of operation were killed, some fighting vehicles were destroyed and other infrastructure facilities were made irrecoverable,” the ministry reported.

“The units of Azerbaijan Armed Forces were brought into combat readiness in order to immediately prevent any enemy hostile activity against peaceful population and military personnel, and deliver response fire to its fire positions.

Currently, the operational situation is fully under control of Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

Overall, Armenia’s armed forces 130 times violated the ceasefire along the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops over the past 24 hours.

The Armenians shelled the Azerbaijani army positions near the state border in the Gazakh, Tovuz and Gadabay regions, as well as the Azerbaijani positions along the Nagorno-Karabakh frontline.

Three days ago, the Armenian troops targeted the Alkhanli village of Azerbaijan’s Fizuli region and savagely killed two Azerbaijani civilians, including a toddler.

Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan by laying territorial claims on its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts
