Book: Renowned Armenian writer Hovhannes Tumanyan’s 10-volume set to get republished

A series of events are scheduled on the occasion of the 150th birthday anniversary of renowned Armenian writer Hovhannis Tumanyan. The events will be based on scientific studies, Yerevan-based literary critic Vardan Devrikyan told the reporters on Tuesday.

Mr. Devrikyan informed that the 10-volume set by the prominent writer is set to be republished in the framework of the events. Meantime, the new editions will also feature newly discovered manuscripts and annotations, which were forced to be published outside the volumes. The new publications will have significant differences, featuring numerous in-detail annotations. Two of the 10-volume books have been republished as of now, with the third one set to be republished when funds are available.

“The second volume completes 1914, with the third one concluding the 1917. In total, four out of the ten volumes will cover the writer’s life chronicle.

Vardan Devrikyan also noted that it takes serious measures and time to publicize the works of the merited Armenian writer, properly translating them and presenting to the foreign readership. The literary critic meantime expressed hope that Hovhannes Tumanyan and Komitas will be included in UNESCO Collection of Representative Works.

Sports: Armenian sportsmen win bronze in deaf wrestling championship

Two Armenian Greco-Roman wrestlers won bronze medals in the 23rd Deaf Summer Wrestling Championship being held in Samsun, Turkey.

After successful competitions, Zhora Grigoryan (71 kg) and Narek Nikoghosyan (81kg) deserved the honor to greet fans from the winners’ podium, the National Olympic Committee’s website reports.

Earlier, Robert Gevorgyan (60kg) won silver in a judo match.

The Armenian team comprises ten wrestlers and two judo athletes.

The competitions, organized annually for sportsmen with hearing impairments, has this year brought together participants from 90 countries.

YEREVAN, JULY 24, ARMENPRESS. The representatives of the Armenian Army
are involved in the 2nd all-army military games which launched in
Kyrgyzstan on July 23, the Defense Ministry told Armenpress.
“The Armenian Armed Forces continue actively taking part in all
observations and official meetings between the armies of the CIS
member states.
In this framework, the Armenian Army representatives are engaged in
the 2nd all-army military games launched in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan
on July 23 which will be completed on August 1, as well as they are
taking part in the ‘Reliable Orientation’ military topography
service’s competition of the armed forces of the CIS member states in
Borovichi (Russia) from July 24 to 28.
According to the 2017 plan of the Council of the Defense Ministers of
the CIS member states, head of the physical preparedness and sports
division of the Armenian Armed Forces will take part in the session of
the Council’s sports committee in Kyrgyzstan on July 30”, the Defense
Ministry’s statement said.

Leonid Slutsky: Karabakh conflict should be solved by today’s politicians

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved by the current generation of politicians, the Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky said, speaking to Vestnik Kavkaza.

“There has been a difficult situation in Nagorno-Karabakh for the past 30 years. We all know about the Madrid principles of 2009, we remember the difficult rounds of negotiations between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, which were held with the participation of the Russian leadership. At these meetings, they were solving issues that we have no right to leave to our children and grandchildren,” he said, referring to the countries participating in the conflict.

At the same time, the MP drew attention to the fact that the process of the Karabakh conflict settlement is very, very complicated. “Undoubtedly, I see the role that parliamentarians could play in this negotiation process, but at the same time I believe that any our interference in this delicate process of the Karabakh conflict settlement would be destructive. Unfortunately, there is still bleeding situation, but I hope that the mechanism of the Minsk Group, as well as other formats of negotiations, will gain progress in the foreseeable future,” he stressed.

In addition, the Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs urged his colleagues from different countries to be more careful in this matter. “Any wrong, too harsh statement can interfere with the delicate process of the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiation process,” he explained.

The deputy also expressed confidence that this conflict will be solved with the help of the current politicians. “This, of course, is my and my colleagues’ responsibility: we have no right to leave this bleeding conflict to those who will come after us,” Leonid Slutsky concluded.

Armenian, Georgian FMs exchanged messages on the occasion of 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations

Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian and Georgian FM Mikheil Janelidze, exchanged messages on the occasion of 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Georgia, press department at the ministry of foreign affairs reported on Tuesday.

In his message, Edward Nalbandian notes that the twenty five years are just a drop in the bucket of the centuries-old chronology of our two nations. However, in the modern history of the two countries, that have regained their independence, this past quarter of a century defines an important phase of establishing and enhancing interstate friendly relations, a period that has been filled with significant achievements and successes.

Edward Nalbandian stresses, that Armenia is determined to exert joint efforts in further strengthening and developing the relations based on this traditional ties, adding that it will be possible to make full use of the existing opportunities in a more efficient manner, once the whole potential of our bilateral relations is explored. Armenian FM highlighted that Armenians of Georgia play a significant role in strengthening the traditionally friendly Armenian-Georgian relations and serves as a bridge between our two countries.

Concluding the message Foreign Minister of Armenia expresses the confidence that through effective cooperation the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Georgia will continue to make their important contribution to the development of relations between the two countries.

Foreign minister of Georgia notes that over the last two decades, since regaining the independence, Georgia and Armenia have developed relations, based on mutual understanding and common interests. Minister states, that two countries have already achieved a significant progress in various directions, with many more opportunities ahead.

Mikheil Janelidze commends the existing relations between two people and close ties between the two countries fully comply with the traditional friendship between two nations and are based on solid historical foundation and the mutually shared principles of freedom and democracy.

Foreign Minister of Georgia emphasized with satisfaction the close and effective cooperation of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Armenia, and confirms the readiness to undertake all the necessary efforts to further strengthen our cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.

Yerevan Municipality chaired by Mayor Taron Margaryan, the assistance
programs for Syrian-Armenian families and the quick solution of issues
voiced by them were touched upon, the Municipality told Armenpress.
By specifically highlighting the importance of quick integration of
Syrian-Armenians, Mayor Margaryan tasked the social insurance
department and heads of administrative districts to constantly control
solving the issues of Syrian-Armenians and in case of necessity
provide respective assistance to those Syrian-Armenians who have a
desire to be engaged in small entrepreneurial activity.
“Settling the problems of Syrian-Armenian families living in Yerevan
will always remain in our spotlight, and the social assistance

Armenia Ombudsman urges int’l condemnation of Azerbaijan’s shelling

PanARMENIAN.NetArmenian human rights defender Arman Tatoyan has detailed Azerbaijan‘s shelling of Armenian border villages of July 20-22 to the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights in a recent phone call.

According to the Ombudsman, Azerbaijani armed forces are specifically targeting civilian settlements and properties, opening fire towards community schools, kindergartens and houses.

In the phone call, Tatoyan said the international community must publicly condemn the targeted shelling of Armenian population by Azerbaijan.

Also, the human rights defender and the Commissioner’s office agreed that a complete overview of all the shootings and their consequences will be compiled and submitted to the Commissioner.

Azerbaijani troops opened fire towards the village of Barekamavan in Armenia’s Tavush province on July 21, between 11:00pm and 01:00am.

Also, the village of Chinari fell under Azeri shelling the same week.

Norduz-Meghri joint operation to increase Iran-Armenia trade turnover
YEREVAN, JULY 24, ARMENPRESS. The main purpose of the bill of the
joint operation of Norduz-Meghri gate is to launch perspective
economic agreements, expert on Iran Armen Israyelyan told a press
conference today.
“This relates to increasing of bilateral commercial turnover volumes
and implementation of various programs in the economic branch. The
joint operation of the Norduz-Meghri gate is aimed at the
implementation of transit cargo shipments, namely shipments en route
from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea”, he said, adding that it will
also increase the investment appeal of both countries for
international investors.
The expert said a task force will be created for rapid customer
service in order to avoid double operations in border checkpoints and
swiftly carry out customs procedures.
“In addition, Armenia and Iran will exchange information on smuggling
cases, in order to rapidly solve the problems which might occur at the
border”, Israyelyan said.
He said a significant growth has been seen in the Iranian-Armenian
trade turnover in the recent years.
In 2016, the commercial turnover (non oil products) amounted 170
million dollars, compared to the 120-130 million of 2015.
“In the past couple of years a number of economic processes happened –
the visa regime was lifted between Iran and Armenia, the 500 dollar
insurance payment for inbound vehicles from Iran to Armenia was
revises and decreased to 90 dollars etc. This also contributed to the
development of tourism”, he said.
