More than 70% of Yerevan residents are not going to leave the country
According to many experts, the Armenia economy standard will increase for 2.5-3%, Arman Ghukasyan, “Vox Populi” NGO expert, said at a meeting with journalists.
“Last few months may be considered favorable for Armenian economics. The export increased by 21%. We see rather large perspectives in the net of EAEU. If those achievements are used in a proper way, migration decrease is expected in January 2018”, Ghukasyan mentioned.
According to the expert, the citizens of Armenia rely on the Government activity.
In turn, NGO expert Covinar Kostanyan told that a small sociological inquiry has been carried out among 900 Yerevan residents. “Responding to the question if they are going to move to another country forever, 72% responded negatively, 19% were not aware and only 9% responded positively”, Kostanyan said.
The question if the republic citizens expect reforms in social and economic sphere received 79% positive, 15% negative answers and 6% of the respondents were not aware.
Yerevan promises tough response to Baku’s provocations
“Yesterday evening and throughout the night the Armenian Armed Forces did not open fire from any weapon along the entire length of Armenian-Azerbaijani border,” the statement reads.
The Armenian Defense Ministry denied the allegations, mentioning that the Armenian Forces never target peaceful population.
“The falsification by Azerbaijani propaganda is evident even from their own pictures, which show that the child’s wounds are rather old and have nothing to do with allegedly “shrapnel wound” on August 7.
Armenian Ministry of Defense called on Azerbaijani military and political leadership to avoid further escalation, warning that any provocation will receive tough response from the Armenian side,” Armenian Defense Ministry stated.
Armenia refutes opening fire towards Azerbaijani village, injuring teenager
PanARMENIAN.Net – Azerbaijani media outlets disseminated disinformation on Monday, August 7, alleging that Armenian troops had opened fire towards the Azeri village of Garalar and wounded a teenager as a result.
Armenian defense ministry press secretary Artsrun Hovhannisyan in a Facebook post refuted the claims as completely false.
“We warn the Azerbaijani authorities that no provocations will go unpunished, with Baku bearing full responsibility for the incidents,” Hovhannisyan wrote.
“The border situation was more or less calm yesterday and throughout the night, the Armenian units have not opened fire from any type of weapon whatsoever.”
According to Hovhannisyan, Azerbaijan’s fabrication is revealed with the photo of the child’s injuries, which are obviously old bruises and cuts and have nothing to do with shrapnel wounds.

An appeal to call for EU to engage with Nagorno-Karabakh
«Member of the European Parliament Frank Engel wants Europe in Nagorno-Karabakh». A video with this claim appeared recently on Facebook. It refers to an appeal that is aimed at initiating EU engagement with Nagorno-Karabakh.
«Nagorno-Karabakh’s isolation is unique. The EU provides aid to 150 countries around the World. It also provides aid to people in many unrecognized territories such as Abkhazia, Transnistria and Northern Cyprus regardless of their status. This policy is called “engagement without recognition”.
We call on the EU to engage with Nagorno-Karabakh and support projects to improve the living conditions of its population because EU policies should contribute to the welfare, not to the hardship of populations in Europe and in its periphery», the appeal states.
Will Line of Contact of U.S.-Russia Conflict Pass Across Karabakh

Armenian analyst expects U.S. to step up its role in Karabakh peace efforts
YEREVAN, August 8. /ARKA/. Ruben Safrastyan, the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, an affiliation of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, predicted today that the United States is very likely to step up its role in the international efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Speaking at a news conference Safrastyan said it is in the interest of the US to be more active in the Karabakh negotiation process and to strengthen its position in the region, however, he added that no breakthrough should be expected very soon because all the parties understand how complicated this conflict is.
Safrastyan argued that Azerbaijan’s refusal to participate in NATO exercises in Georgia may be related to the processes around Nagorno-Karabakh.
“The refusal was a gesture meant for Russia. This way Azerbaijan is trying to probe and strengthen its position,” he said.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict erupted into armed clashes after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s as the predominantly Armenian-populated enclave of Azerbaijan sought to secede from Azerbaijan and declared its independence backed by a successful referendum. On May 12, 1994, the Bishkek cease-fire agreement put an end to the military operations.
A truce was brokered by Russia in 1994, although no permanent peace agreement has been signed. Since then, Nagorno-Karabakh and several adjacent regions have been under the control of Armenian forces of Karabakh. Nagorno-Karabakh is the longest-running post-Soviet era conflict and has continued to simmer despite the relative peace of the past two decades, with snipers causing tens of deaths a year.
On April 2, 2016, Azerbaijan launched military assaults along the entire perimeter of its contact line with Nagorno-Karabakh. Four days later a cease-fire was reached. —0—
Turkey’s Erdogan accuses Germany of ‘abetting terrorists’
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Germany of “abetting terrorists” amid a widening spat between Ankara and Berlin, CNN reported.
Speaking at a conference in the Black Sea province of Rize, Erdogan said Turkey had given German Chancellor Angela Merkel “4,500 dossiers but have not received an answer on a single one of them.”
“When there is a terrorist, they can tell us to give that person back. You won’t send the ones you have to us, but can ask us for yours. So you have a judiciary, but we don’t in Turkey?” he said, according to the source.
To remind, relations between Germany and Turkey have deteriorated in recent months after Merkel questioned Turkey’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law, while Erdogan suggested Germany’s Nazi past might not be entirely behind it.
Berlin has also so far refused to extradite soldiers and civilians Ankara accuses of being among the higher level coordinators of last year’s attempted coup.
Jeffrey Katzenberg’s WndrCo Invests in The Young Turk Network as Part of $20 Million Round
August 8, 2017 | 07:04AM PT
WndrCo, Jeffrey Katzenberg’s mobile-entertainment holding company, has made one of its first investments: It’s taken a stake in TYT Network, one of the top online-video political news networks.
TYT Network, whose flagship show is The Young Turks, closed $20 million in funding led by growth equity firm 3L Capital with participation from Greycroft, e.ventures and WndrCo.
The company said it will use the investment to hire additional management execs and creative talent, as well as enhance its subscription-video offering and expand marketing initiatives. TYT also said it expects to tap into the relationships of its new investors — 3L, Greycroft, e.ventures and WndrCo — for new growth opportunities.
TYT, with more than 200 million views a month on YouTube, was founded by CEO Cenk Uygur (pictured above) as an online radio show in 2002. The Young Turks, the left-leaning news and commentary show co-hosted by Uygur, is now the longest-running daily live-streamed show online.
“TYT has done a tremendous job developing a deeply engaged millennial community, as evidenced by the size of its paid subscription membership and total watch time,” 3L managing partner Shawn Colo said in a statement. “This financing will allow the company to accelerate its reach and further its leadership in the massive and evolving market of online news and entertainment.”
With the investment, Colo is joining the TYT board.
L.A.-based TYT Network operates 30 owned-and-operated channels and shows including The Young Turks, What the Flick?!, ThinkTank, TYT Sports, TYT Interviews, TYT Politics, Pop Trigger, and Nerd Alert.
Last month, TYT recruited Rotten Tomatoes editor-in-chief Matt Atchity as head of programming, among other editorial hires.
