Sports: Soccer: Henrikh Mkhitaryan claims confidence is behind Manchester United’s brilliant start to season
Saturday
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed that confidence is the reason behind Manchester United’s brilliant start to the new season.
Jose Mourinho’s men have won their opening two games of the Premier League season 4-0 and sit top of the table at the end of match day two.
Many people have different theories to why things are going well for United but the Armenian midfielder says the team must stay grounded and keep going as they are doing now.
Speaking to MUTV after the Swansea game, Mkhitaryan said that “we still have 36 games to play in the Premier League” so the main thing for now is to take it “step by step and try to win every game” from now to the end of the season and “see where we arrive” when all is said and done.
Mkhitaryan yet again assisted two goals for United against the Swans to make it four assists in two games and the midfielder said “I’m very happy that I could assist twice” as it means that he is doing what he is suppose to do but he also said that he “enjoyed more of the teamwork” from the whole team as in the end that is what matters at the end of the day.
The midfielder continued to say that “last year the atmosphere and environment in the team was amazing” but went on to say that this year “it is much better” which is making everyone trust each other on the pitch and it is producing great results.
The arrival of Victor Lindelöf, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matić have also really helped the team to improve so far and Mkhitaryan revealed his delight about how they have fitted into the squad.
Mkhitaryan said “we are trying to support” the new players in order to help “them settle down quick” as then it will allow them to “show their best quality” which will help the team going forward and it has been shown “from the first game” with what they have contributed in the early games to date.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan produced a truly sensational display at No.10 during Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Swansea City in the Premier League.
The Armenian, who claimed two assists against West Ham last weekend, struggled to find space early on as Swansea packed the midfield.
He was nonetheless tidy on the ball and, with Swansea starting to tire, supplied Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba with inch-perfect assists during the last ten minutes.
His numbers from the game shed light on what was an effervescent display in south Wales.
Mkhitaryan’s game by numbers vs. Swansea:

Mkhitaryan only managed one assist in the Premier League last season. This time around, however, he has four after just two games – another potent indicator of the dynamics shifting for United on a domestic front this time around. They have already scored 15 per cent of the goals they managed in the league last term.
Whisper it, but there is genuine change happening amidst Mourinho’s men this season, and at the heart of it lies the Armenian. He struggled to find space against Paul Clement’s side but was wonderfully nimble and aware in possession, always there to turn and spring forward, picking out teammates at will.
And United’s procession during the latter stages couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the 28-year-old’s superb vision and execution. Mourinho ought to give him a run of games in that role – something he didn’t really do last year.
The sudden impact brought by the diminutive magician will be crucial, you sense, when it comes to unlocking lesser sides hellbent on packing the midfield this season.
Chess: Kasparov shows flashes of past glory but comeback no dazzler
Agence France Presse Saturday 2:56 AM GMT Kasparov shows flashes of past glory but comeback no dazzler Washington, Aug 19 2017 Russian chess legend Garry Kasparov concluded his keenly awaited comeback Friday, ending a week of games in which he showed flashes of his legendary prowess but ended up eighth out of 10 players. The 15-time world champ temporarily came out of 12 years of retirement to take on a much younger generation of masters at the Rapid and Blitz tournament in St. Louis, Missouri. In this format featuring faster-paced chess than in traditional games, Kasparov played inconsistently. He won just a few games against the other nine players, who included four of the world's top 10. The winner of the tournament was Levon Aronian, of Armenia. After retiring from chess in 2005, Kasparov turned to politics and joined the opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In his peak he was known as "the Beast of Baku" -- a reference to the capital of his native Azerbaijan -- because of his very aggressive playing style focusing on wins over settling for a draw. Kasparov was not expected to win this tournament. Experts predicted the Russian would face stiff competition from the younger stars, especially after more than a decade away from the pro chess circuit. "I expected a better performance from Kasparov," French grandmaster Sylvain Ravot told AFP. Ravot said Kasparov actually dominated a number of games but played too slowly through much of the tournament. "The explanation for that is his lack of confidence," said Ravot.
ATP Leadership Provides Update on Forest Fires in Armenia
ARMENIA TREE PROJECT 400 W Cummings Park, Suite 3900 Woburn, MA 01801 USA Tel: (617) 926-TREE Web: www.armeniatree.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 18, 2017 ATP Leadership Provides Update on Forest Fires in Armenia We were saddened to witness the forest fires in the Khosrov Forest Reserve and in Artavan, Vayots Dzor on 13 August 2017. Unfortunately, our country lost many hectares of old growth forests, with estimates ranging from 2,500 hectares to 10,000 hectares. In addition to the benefits to tourism and other ecosystem values of these 600-year-old forests, we lost a large stand of 150-year-old juniper trees, as well as habitat for the animals living in these forests. Information is still being gathered by organizations and governmental agencies involved in the recovery effort. We expect to know more in the coming days and clarify the extent of the losses, and hopefully identify the causes of the fires, as well as the action plan to prevent such disasters in the future. There is an ongoing risk in Armenia to forest fires, especially in summers when temperatures are hot and the air and soil is dry. This threat is further exacerbated by climate change which has caused higher temperatures and more erratic weather patterns including drought in summer. We often see smaller fires, but these have been the largest in recent memory. Of course the issue raises questions about Armenia's capacity to fight such fires or withstand other natural disasters. The weekend events have revealed a lack of resources and infrastructure to fight massive fires, though the men and women deployed to fight the fires are to be commended for their hard work and bravery to bring the disaster under control. We also received technical support from Russia in the form of water distribution and a firefighting air vehicle, which helped disaster management workers to control the spread of the fires. Clearly there is more room for improvement and capacity building, and we would like to see this become more of a national priority to protect our natural heritage. None of the sites were planted by ATP, but we have already begun to take action and reach out to the major stakeholders involved in the recovery and future prevention efforts. These include the Ministry of Nature Protection, World Wildlife Fund, Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets, Caucasus Nature Fund, and the United Nations. All of the parties are interested in coordination and a proactive approach to preventing similar disasters in the future. Here are a few initial steps that ATP has taken: . We are visiting our planting sites to assess any areas of risk and ideas to prevent the outbreak or spread of fire . We have extended a hand to partners working in or around Armenia's forest reserves, to assist with monitoring for threats . We are already developing educational materials for the public to learn about threats and think twice about practices that can cause forest fires Protecting our green infrastructure is a team effort. At this stage, we wanted to let people know that we're aware of the threat, we are concerned and our experts are talking to the appropriate parties to determine an action plan for solutions. Film: AGBU Spearheads The Promise to Educate Movement to Foster Armenian Genocide Education
On August 14, the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), in partnership with Survival Pictures, the production company behind The Promise, and major Armenian organizations in North America, launched The Promise to Educate campaign to raise funds for the advancement of Armenian Genocide education across the United States.
Expanding on the social impact mission of The Promise and recognizing the gaps in genocide education in the U.S., AGBU and its partners have initiated a campaign to send copies of the film and relevant curriculum resources to public educational institutions across the country. While human rights issues and related history are included in the social studies curricula of the vast majority of public schools, the Armenian Genocide goes largely ignored. Currently, the Armenian Genocide is not a required subject in history courses in most schools and lack of awareness and teaching materials leaves it on the sidelines.
“The primary goal of the filmmakers of The Promise was not only to bring our history to light, but to encourage a dialogue among middle school and high school students and their teachers,” said AGBU Central Board Member Ani Manoukian. “The AGBU Alternative Education Department works to provide a diverse range of resources on various topics of Armenian language, history and culture for classrooms. The distribution of The Promise DVDs, along with tailored study materials, provides access to trustworthy information about the Armenian Genocide, challenging the powerful forces of denial.”
Donations will allow AGBU to supply Keep The Promise Educational Packages to American public middle and high schools, higher educational institutions and libraries. Each package includes a copy of The Promise DVD, a letter from filmmaker Terry George, a tailored The Promise Study Guide and a reference of Armenian Genocide curriculum resources and contacts. The package is developed in cooperation with well-known genocide education organizations, such as the Armenian National Institute (ANI), The Genocide Education Project and the Zoryan Institute.
Following the successful grassroots outreach campaign for the movie, AGBU and major Armenian organizations in North America, including the Armenian Assembly of America, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), Children of Armenia Fund (COAF), the Dioceses and Prelacies of the Armenian Church of the United States and Canada, as well as other religious and cultural institutions, are again joining efforts to bring Keep The Promise Educational Packages to classrooms.
“Tell the world about the Armenian Genocide, and every genocide taking place across the globe. We owe it not only to the descendants of the Armenian Genocide, but all people who are vulnerable, to learn about and learn from our history so that it is never repeated again,” said filmmaker Terry George in his letter addressed to educators. “Together, through education we can raise awareness so that future generations will never forget and never stay silent.”
A minimum donation of $100 distributes Keep The Promise Educational Packages to five public institutions in the United States. AGBU encourages all members and friends to support the campaign by making online donations at www.thepromisetoeducate.org. Educators and administrators are welcome to sign up online to receive the packages.
Established in 1906, AGBU () is the world’s largest non-profit Armenian organization. Headquartered in New York City, AGBU preserves and promotes the Armenian identity and heritage through educational, cultural and humanitarian programs, annually touching the lives of some 500,000 Armenians around the world.
