“Revival Of Our Soul” Book Ascribed To Zory Balayan Doesn’t Exist

“REVIVAL OF OUR SOUL” BOOK ASCRIBED TO ZORY BALAYAN DOESN’T EXIST

PanARMENIAN.Net

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ During recent two years Azeri websites often
mention of a book titled “Revival of Our Soul” and ascribed to
Armenian writer Zory Balayan. The book “is related to the events in
Khojalu.” PanARMENIAN.Net publishes the letter written by Zory Balayan,
who is presently aboard of Cilicia vessel.

“Friends and unknown people call me and ask whether I have written
a book titled “Revival of Our Soul” published by Vanadzor publishing
house. The fact is that some two years long dirty information is spread
via Internet. Quotations from a book allegedly written by me appear
in the network. I do not want to come down to the level of those who
do not realize that such insinuations first of all discredit their
own nation.

I urge all those who should carry out investigations in case of
violation of human rights or show the readers the above-mentioned
book. If such exists that’s another matter.

I am absolutely sure that human rights notion is not an empty sound
but the reality that must be protected.”

“I have stopped my political activities, also ceased to engage as
a vice chairperson and political board member. I stopped my party
activities because I am the executive director of “One Nation,
One Culture” Fund, Tamar Poghosyan, the head of One Nation, One
Culture Fund told Panorama.am. Answering to the question whether it
is possible that she leaves Orinats Yerkir, Tamar Poghosyan said,
“time will show. I cannot say clearly right now. All I can say that
I have stopped my party activity.”

At present Mrs. Poghosyan is concentrated on culture and cannot
combine the work with political activities.

“Two years ago I could not forecast about the developments with
Orinats Yerkir. The decision to stay with culture is very objective,”
Poghosyan said.

Christian Union Wants To Make The Denial Of Genocide Punishable

CHRISTIAN UNION WANTS TO MAKE THE DENIAL OF GENOCIDE PUNISHABLE

Anp (Dutch Press Agency)
1 June 2006

THE HAGUE (ANP) – The denial of genocide, such as the Holocaust,
must be punishable. To this end the Christian Union (ChristenUnie)
party has submitted a bill to the Parliament. Anyone who intentionally
denies a genocide or a crime against humanity in order to insult
others or incite hate shall be accountable as having committed a
crime which can carry a maximum sentence of one year imprisonment,
according to the draft law.

The presenter of the bill, Dutch MP Mrs. Tineke Huizinga, wants to
have this provision included in the Dutch Penal Code as a clear signal
that such denials would not be tolerated. The law should also make it
easier to combat discrimination on Internet, said Huizinga Thursday
during the introducing of her bill.

For the victims of genocides and their surviving relatives the
intentional denials of the committed evil or distorting of the
facts are “indigestible”. Huizinga named as an example, next to
the persecution of the Jews during the Second World War, the extent
and dimensions of the slavery in which The Netherlands has played a
“disgraceful” role.

In addition, the parliament member recalled the Genocide of the
Armenians in 1915 during the Ottoman Empire, which is still being
denied by the present day Turkey and the Turks elsewhere. Huizinga and
other members of the Parliament have recently been bombarded by E-mails
forwarded especially by the Turks who oppose the Christian Union bill.

Huizinga emphasised that the bill does not seek to restrict the freedom
of speech. According to her, the historical facts should always be
open to discussion. The denial, approval or justification of genocide
should therefore be punishable when it concerns a deliberate expression
to insult and discriminate people.

The Federation of Armenian Organisations in The Netherlands called
the bill a step forward and is happy that the Armenian Genocide has
been explicitly mentioned in the Explanatory Memorandum of the bill. A
representative of the organisation, Mrs. Inge Drost, thinks that the
adoption of the bill should make it possible to close Internet sites
which engage in the denial of Armenian Genocide, such as seemingly
innocent site www.armenië.nl

In a reaction, the National Bureau for Combating Race Discrimination
and the Israel Information and Documentation Centre, likewise
announced their support of the bill. The draft law should go first
to the Council of State for advice, following which the Parliament
can start the proceedings on the bill.

MARGARYAN: MEETING OF ARMENIAN AND AZERBAIJANI PRESIDENTS DOES NOT INSPIRE BIG EXPECTATIONS

Regnum, Russia
June 5 2006

Meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in Bucharest to
negotiate on Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement does not inspire
big expectations, Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan stated.

“However, I consider it to be possible that there will be no regress
and time will show whether progress will be recorded,” the Armenian
premier stressed. Also, he expressed confidence that the results
of the negotiations would not be able to exacerbate the Armenian
internal political situation, and, moreover, to create conditions
for conducting extraordinary parliamentary elections.

It is worth reminding that th emeeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani
presidents began on June 4 and it is still continuing. Yesterday’s
tete-a-tete meeting lasted for about 4h. The meeting takes place in

Boxing: All eyes on Aussie Vic

All eyes on Aussie Vic

by BARRY MICHAEL

THE world boxing spotlight will be on Vic ”Raging Bull” Darchinyan
when he defends his IBF/IBO flyweight title in Las Vegas tomorrow.

Darchinyan, Australia’s only reigning world boxing champion, will get
huge international exposure when he makes his fourth title defence,
against Mexican Luis Maldonado.

This fight is the main supporting bout to the third battle between
Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo for the WBC lightweight title
at the Thomas and Mack Centre.

Darchinyan is at the peak of his career. The 30-year-old is
undefeated in 25 fights.

Darchinyan is a powerhouse for this weight division, a southpaw who
throws punches with bad intentions from the first bell.

He faces tough opposition here with Maldonado bringing to the ring an
impressive record of 33 wins, one draw and no losses with 25 of his
wins by knockout.

It looms as a great fight between two undefeated warriors who will
wage war from the first bell.

I believe Darchinyan is the strongest flyweight in the world at the
moment and I would be surprised if Maldonado is around to hear the
final bell.

Darchinyan is Armenian-born but now a proud Australian having stayed
in Australia since the 2000 Olympics where Jeff Fenech convinced him
to join his team.

In the fight for the WBC lightweight title, I believe Jose Luis
Castillo will repeat his effort from their last bout by knocking out
Diego Corrales again.

Their first fight saw Corrales out on his feet before clawing his way
back to stop Castillo.

Their second encounter was controversial as Castillo didn’t make the
weight but went on to score a crushing knockout.

HUMANITY WILL NEVER BE HOMOGENOUS: VAHAN HOVHANNISYAN

Today NA Vice Speaker Vahan Hovhannisyan delivered a lecture at the
parliament on upbringing of an individual in a society. Students
enrolled in summer school civic education program organized by `New
Armenia’ non-profit organization attended the lecture.

V. Hovhannisyan rejected the theses that `one day nationalities will
disappear and the humanity will be homogenous.’ According to
Hovhannisyan, nothing like that will ever happen. `Nationality is not
only the major but the sole form of being,’ he said. The Vice Speaker
is sure that society is not a mechanical unity but organic which is
not possible to change. An Armenian living in France does not become
French, he just changes the passport, he says.

It is easier to establish a state than a nation in Hovhannisyan’s
words. The Armenian nation has devoted itself to family whereas the
major responsibility of the citizen is to serve the nation and people.
Hovhannisyan is sure that today’s youth can become such. /Panorama.am/
