Glendale approves building for Armenian-American health center

PanArmenian, Armenia
Feb 7 2020

PanARMENIAN.Net – The City Council of Glendale, California, has unanimously approved the construction of a daringly-designed building for a community health center created by Armenian-American physician, Dr. Noobar Janoian, in 1999, The Architect’s Newspaper reports.

The building is authored by Los Angeles-based architecture firm P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S and Santa Monica-based Sharif, Lynch: Architecture.

When complete, the Janoian Building will be the new home of All For Health, Health For All, the local community health center, and will include rentable office space, ground-floor retail, and a small amenity space in the terrace. As approved, Glendale residents can expect to see a 5-story, 70-foot-tall complex rise on the site.

The five-story building’s shifting character on the corner of Broadway and Isabel Street is designed to visually connect the urban promenade of the stylistically-diverse Glendale Civic Center.

The building’s irregularly-striated brise-soleil system and exterior voids along Isabel Street contrast the smooth, unbroken glass facade to break up the structure’s otherwise imposing presence. A series of exterior soffits and cantilevers unify the building’s envelope while adding continuous open balconies accessible via the medical office spaces. The health center will be set back along Isabel Street to make room for a small pocket park, for which Armenian artist Zadik Zadikian was commissioned to create a public mural as a backdrop that reflects the community’s diverse citizenship.

Construction on the Janoian Building will begin this summer and is expected to be completed by late next year.

YEREVAN. – There is no opposition between the Armenian government and the ARF Dashnaktsutyun, PM Nikol Pashinyan assured.

He admitted there is a conflict between a part of the ARF and the Ministry of Education, but insisted that those members of ARF have links to the former authorities and the former corrupt system.

“Sometimes you get the impression that there is a conflict between the Armenian government and the ARF. The entire ARF party cannot be judged in the same way, because I have an impression the Armenian government and the ARF have great potential and willingness to cooperate on national issues. At least we have that willingness. I am convinced that we will be able to start a constructive dialogue together with the Dashnaktsutyun, as a pan-Armenian body. As for Armenia, my opinion remains the same, unless the abobve mentioned is stated, ARF will have a vague political future, here in Armenia, ”the Prime Minister said.

Armenian PM added that the government has good relations with the traditional political parties.

“We have great, close relations with the Diaspora agencies, traditional parties. I have positive attitude towards the governing bodies of our three traditional parties, their representatives, and I have a very warm and fraternal attitude towards them,” he added.

Fans Slam Kim Kardashian For Turning a Church Outing Into a ‘Glam Shot’

Kim Kardashian West loves documenting her life on social media. And she recently took a trip to Armenia with her family so that her children could learn about where their ancestors are from. Kardashian has visited Armenia in the past, but this was the first time she visited the country with her own family. However, some fans thought her recent church photos were distasteful.

Robert Kardashian, the Kardashians’ late father, was Armenian and took a lot of pride in his culture and heritage. The four Kardashian children grew up with a strong appreciation of Armenia and have gone to visit several times, especially since losing their father. This past week, the Kardashians took a long-anticipated return trip to Armenia, and this time, Kim Kardashian West and Kourtney Kardashian brought their children along for the trip. Kardashian West wanted her kids to learn about where her side of the family comes from and introduce them to where their ancestors once lived.

Kardashian West and Kanye West have done their best to incorporate religion into their children’s lives. It’s unclear how much Kardashian practiced religion when she was growing up, though the family does seem to turn to God for a lot of things in life. Now that West does his Sunday service, Kardashian West’s kids have become more involved in religion than ever. And during the family’s trip to Armenia, Kardashian West’s children were baptized in one of Armenia’s most well-known cathedrals. Though she loved sharing the photos of her family, some fans weren’t too pleased.

Kardashian West posted two sets of photos to her Instagram from her family’s time spent in the cathedral. And though the photos were beautiful, not everyone was happy to see that she was posting photos during something that seemed so personal. “Why can’t you guys just have a special, personal family experience without photographing it and turning it into a glam shot,” one user commented. “When u [sic] get baptized just for the ig [sic] pics,” another person wrote. Others took issue with her tight dress in the church. “If u [sic] were baptized, dress properly!” one user added. “Your outfit seems a little tight for a baptism.”

Though Kardashian West is proud of her heritage and proud of what she did for her family, the Kardashians have received criticism from photos before. Fans have taken issue with everything from over-editing to using Photoshop and have suggested in the past that the family posts too many personal events to social media. However, Kardashian West seems to enjoy sharing close family moments with her followers, since so many of them love and support her. Though they mostly block out the haters, it doesn’t stop some fans (or trolls) from saying how they feel about the way she parents her kids and lives her life.

168: Arpine Hovhannisyan to Rustam Badasyan: “You shouldn’t speak”

Category
Politics

Among others, Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan also condemned what happened to Judge Anna Danibekyan last evening. Anna Danibekyan is the judge examining the case of Robert Kocharyan.

Badasyan particularly said the following: “I strictly condemn the persecution and assault against Judge Anna Danibekyan of the first instance court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan. Such cases must be ruled out and strictly punished. I am aware that the Police have already instituted a criminal case in relation to this incident and that the suspect of the crime has already been apprehended. This should not happen in our reality. This is simply inadmissible.”

168.am asked former Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan to comment on Badasyan’s statement.

According to Hovhannisyan, that boy (Rustam Badasyan-G.S.) shouldn’t speak because, for instance, when he talks about the former corrupt regime, he has to remember that, according to rumors and improperly refuted news, he benefited from the former corrupt regime and was exempt from military service.

“He shouldn’t speak because it is clear that, during his studies, he listened, but didn’t master the knowledge about human and professional values and is only characterized as narcissistic,” Arpine Hovhannisyan said.

According to the former justice minister, politically speaking, Rustam Badasyan has to keep silent because when he was saying that the demonstration to block the entrances to and exists from courts was lawful and was speaking as the author of a package of embarrassing laws on bribery and the bearer of this ideology, he shouldn’t be surprised when such incidents take place.

“As your Prime Minister says, keep calm, sit down and be quiet,” Arpine Hovhannisyan concluded, addressing the current justice minister.

President Rouhani Due in Armenia to Attend Eurasia Summit

Iran Front Page
Sept 29 2019

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani arrives to address the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly at UN headquarters in New York City, New York, US, Sept 25, 2019.

Iran’s president is to travel to Armenia to take part in the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in Yerevan on October 1, 2019.

Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to deliver a speech at the event, which will also be attended by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

According to Rouhani’s deputy chief of staff for communications and information, Parviz Esmaeili, the president will address the EAEU high-profile summit on Tuesday.

“In addition to delivering a speech at the summit and discussing Iran’s extensive potential and capabilities for trade cooperation with the EAEU, the president will hold bilateral meetings with Armenian prime minister and other senior officials,” said Esmaeil.

The most important issues regarding Tehran-Yerevan relations, as well as the latest status of the implementation of joint agreements and projects, will be discussed during the meetings, he noted.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Rouhani will also hold separate meetings with a number of participating leaders to exchange views on topics of mutual interest, as well as regional and international developments.

A high-ranking politico-economic delegation will be accompanying Rouhani on this visit, said Esmaeili, adding that the president will return to Tehran on Tuesday night.

Rouhani’s participation at the EAEU summit was confirmed by Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on Sept. 7, who said in an interview that “we have a wide-scale agenda with Iran, and we are looking for frameworks and effective ways for cooperation in the fields of regional security, development of infrastructure, and energy diversity to reach a positive result that would benefit all of our countries.”

“Armenia’s membership at the EAEU will provide the condition for us to expand cooperation with Iran, as well as Singapore and Egypt,” he had noted.

The EAEU meeting of leaders in Yerevan is a major regional event which is said to help Tehran increase its non-oil exports amid US sanctions.

The invitation came more than a month after Iran ratified a parliamentary bill to launch a free trade zone with EAEU members, namely Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

The agreement is expected to hugely boost Iran’s trade transactions with countries to the north of a region in northern Asia and Eastern Europe called Eurasia.
