ARPA Institute presents the Lecture/Seminar:
`Biological Evolution and the Genetics of Armenians","
by Dr. Paul Narguizian, on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at
7:30 PM at the Merdinian School auditorium.

The Address is 13330 Riverside Dr., Sherman Oaks, CA
91403. Directions: on the 101 FWY exit on Woodman, go
north and turn right on Riverside Dr.

Abstract: – Biological evolution investigates the
functioning and biodiversity of life on Earth over
time, whether in the recent or more distant past, to
establish scientific explanations for the various
kinds of organisms, including humans, that have
evolved, and the biological relationships between
organisms and the ecosystems in which they live. DNA
technology has played an important role in increasing
our basic understanding of evolutionary principles,
while at the same time giving scientists the tools
necessary to combat diseases which are prevalent in
humans. There are numerous diseases which are more
prevalent in certain ethnic minorities including
Armenians, Turks, and Ashkenazi Jews. One such disease
includes Familial Mediterranean Fever (also known as
Armenian or Mediterranean disease). This lecture will
focus on the relationship between biological
evolution, recent groundbreaking scientific work in
DNA technology, and the techniques currently being
employed to better understand and treat human genetic
diseases.

Paul Narguizian is an assistant professor of science
education at California State University, Los Angeles.
Prof. Narguizian joined the faculty of the Charter
College of Education at Cal State L.A. in the summer
of 2002, after eight years of teaching
elementary/middle school general science and high
school biology and chemistry in Los Angeles, CA.
During this time, he also completed a Master of
Science degree in Cell & Molecular Biology at
California State University, Northridge. His research
at CSUN involved taking a closer look at the role of
cell membrane structures (i.e. amino acids) and
cancer. Realizing the dual importance of science
content and science education/pedagogy in being a more
effective science educator, he continued his graduate
education at the University of Southern California
where he received a Doctorate in Science Education.
During his tenure at USC, Prof. Narguizian became
interested in the Nature and History of Science (i.e.
the processes and mechanisms involved in science) and
as a result made it the focal point of his
dissertation. Dr. Narguizian’s university teaching
experience prior to CSULA included a position as an
adjunct professor of science education at California
State University, Long Beach. He has research and
publication interests in biological evolution
education, organisms of the CA Channel Islands, and
the nature, philosophy and history of science.

Moscow Teenager Admits 37 Race-Driven Murders, Then Retracts

MOSCOW TEENAGER ADMITS 37 RACE-DRIVEN MURDERS, THEN RETRACTS

Union of Councils for Jews in the Former Soviet Union, DC
Bigotry Monitor: Volume 7, Number 22
June 16 2007

Artur Ryno, 17, a student of icon-painting claimed responsibility
for 37 murders in Moscow, according to law enforcement sources cited
by "The Moscow Times" of May 29. Then he retracted his confession
but police have so far been able to link him to 21 killings and are
investigating several others, according to a June 14 article in the
national daily "Vremya Novostey."

Ryno originally acknowledged that he had committed the murders out
of racial hatred and he saw as his duty to "cleanse the city" of
migrants. In addition to his accused accomplice Pavel Skachevsky,
18, who has consistently denied any involvement in the killings,
police now believe that other neo-Nazis took part in at least some
of the murders and that Ryno was acquainted with the bombers of
the Cherkizov market, a terrorist act in August 2006 that targeted
non-Russian market traders and took the lives of 11 people.

His first murder allegedly took place on August 21, 2006 near the
Cherkizov market in the company of some unidentified friends. "We
were strolling along and I spotted a fight between five of our guys
and an Asian man," Ryno reportedly confessed. "I ran to help out. I
took out a knife and stabbed the non-Russian several times."

Ryno and fellow student Skachayevsky were arrested last month on
suspicion of killing Armenian businessman Karen Abramyan. Abramyan,
46, was stabbed 20 times on April 16 in Moscow. Ryno and Skachayevsky
were detained on a tram with their clothes covered in blood and in
possession of a bloody knife. A surveillance camera captured the
crime. According to "Vremya Novostei," Ryno confessed to a string
of racially motivated murders after being shown the surveillance
footage. The night before Abramyan’s murder, Khairullo Sadykov,
26, a street sweeper from Tajikistan, was stabbed 35 times outside
an apartment building. Ryno confessed to Sadykov’s murder too, the
report said. Most, if not all of Ryno’s and Skachevsky’s victims were
foreigners and were stabbed at least 20 times, presumably to delay
the body identification process, the report said.

Last year, 53 people were killed and 460 injured in apparent hate
crimes, according to the Sova Information-Analytical Center.

BAKU: Three-Page Document On Principles Of Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict

THREE-PAGE DOCUMENT ON PRINCIPLES OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT IS UNDER DISCUSSION: ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTER

TREND News Agency, Azerbaijan
June 14 2007

The Foreign Minister of Armenia, Vardan Oskanyan, stated in an
interview with Kentron TV that a three-page document which includes
key principles of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
settlement is being discussed in negotiations on the conflict
settlement.

"Currently a three-page document which includes all possible
principles of the conflict settlement is under discussion. It is quite
a complicated document and results from the two-year negotiation
process at the level of the Foreign Ministers and Presidents of
Azerbaijan and Armenia," Oskanyan said.

The minister considers that the comparative analysis of the coordinated
and uncoordinated issue give grounds to suppose that this document
will be possible to implement.

"Based on the document, I have certain optimism that it is possible
to expect some progress from the discussions at the level of
Presidents. It is a logical and compromise document although it does
not fully satisfy the requirements of the sides, but gives something
to the sides according to which it is possible to present the document
to their people," Oskanyan said.

In addition, he stressed that irrespective of progress, there are yet
uncoordinated issues and the sides should resolve the most difficult
problems. Oskanyan spelt out that the document under discussion
envisages "pack approach", Novosti-Armenia reports.

"Temporary alternate is possible there, but the responses to all
questions should be provided beforehand," he stressed.

The Armenian Foreign Minister considers it impossible to speak
of other problems without response to the questions regarding the
self-appointment right of Nagorno-Karabakh inhabitants, existence
of a corridor ensuring uninterrupted land links between Karabakh and
Armenia, as well as a solution of all problems regarding the security
of Nagorno-Karabakh inhabitants.

France To Block Further Talks Between Turkey And EU

FRANCE TO BLOCK FURTHER TALKS BETWEEN TURKEY AND EU

PanARMENIAN.Net
14.06.2007 13:07 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The scheduled negotiations over Turkey’s accession
to the European Union may fail on two of three articles. Besides
Cyprus, Paris has also suddenly stated about his intention to
block negotiations. France is going to block further talks on the
issue of Turkey’s accession to the EU, Financial Times Deutschland
reports. Citing representatives of French diplomatic circles, the
newspaper reports that President of the country Nicolas Sarkozy may
try to veto negotiations over "Economic and Currency Union" article.

Paris explains his refusal with arguments that this very direction
of talks applies only to those countries, the future full membership
of which does not raise doubts from the very beginning. For, example
the same thing happened with Eastern European countries, which joined
the EU recently, Deutsche Welle reports. It is worth mentioning that
France has always opposed Turkey’s accession to the European Union.
