PrintEmail Article Tools Page 1 of 1 With their unique sound, energetic
personalities and international appeal, Hashish Punk, hailing from
Argentina, are trying to earn their place in the music industry.

Performing in English, Spanish and Armenian, Juan Abajian, Levon
Hassassian and Ernesto Vaneskeheian have been crunching out pop-
and punk-rock inspired melodies since 2000. Their self-titled debut,
which took them three years to release, has gained attention and
attracted many fans on their MySpace music page, prompting the band
to sell their albums on the Web site.

Hashish Punk’s appeal does not end at the Argentinean border. They mix
their Argentinean upbringing with their Armenian roots and influences
like Green Day and the Ramones. "My Hashish," in which they sing,
"Yes eem Hayasdaneen, amen eench seeretzee/Yerp beedee veratarnam
Mayr Hayrenik," translates to "I have loved everything about my
Armenia. When will I return to the motherland?"

Hashish Punk’s sound takes a lot of getting used to, though this is
not necessarily their downfall. With the highly potent and infectious
sound and their use of such instruments as the accordion on tracks
like "Labbarah," this power trio’s freshman effort will make you
want to dance like no one is watching, even if you don’t necessarily
understand the lyrics.

ATTACK AND UDDF GAVE JOINT BRIEFING ON THE SCANDAL WITH LEAVING PLENARY HALL

FOCUS News Agency, Bulgaria
May 2 2007

Sofia. The Bulgarian nationalistic party Attack and the rightist United
Democratic Forces /UdDF/ organized a briefing about the scandal from
this morning in plenary hall, a reporter of FOCUS News Agency informed.

Dimitar Stoyanov from ‘Attack’ said that it did matter what was the
point in the parliamentary agenda, which was removed by the majority,
in particular – the proposal of Attack for recognizing the genocide
on the Armenian people by Turkey in 1915.

‘The proposal for rejecting this point did not come from the Movement
for Rights and Freedoms, who one week ago insulted the victims of the
Armenian genocide, by leaving the plenary hall during the honoring
of the victims’ memory; instead the proposal came from ‘Bulgaria’s
face in united Europe’ – the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Stoyanov said.

development of the current relations," RA National Assembly Speaker
Tigran Torosian said receiving on April 25 newly appointed Ambassador

framework of European parliamentary structures. In the respect of

"TURKEY SCARED BY ARMENIAN YOUNGSTERS"

[03:21 pm] 24 April, 2007

Thousands of youngsters, headed by Reverend Ter -Tajad uttered the
holy prayer altogether at the Genocide Memorial at midnight. This
was all illuminated by thousands of torches and candles.

The participants were marching both with excitement and anxiety. The
march was accompanied by slogans ‘ Recognition of Genocide’, ‘ Armenia’
and the like. The citizens joined the action by lighting a candle on
their window-pills thus expressing their demand for recognition and
condemnation of the Genocide.

Gegham Manukyan, representative of the ARF party (Armenian
Revolutionary Federation) stated that if 8 years ago only a few people
would raise torches, today there were thousands to do so.

Kiro Manoyan, leader of the Armenian Question Committee of ARF Bureau
made speeches in front of the crowd, and assured that Turkey was
scared of our unification.

Students were holding the flags of the countries to have recognized
the Armenian Genocide, whereas schoolchildren were holding the RA
flag. "My friend is a Russian, that’s why I am holding the RF flag,’
Volodya made a joke but at the same time couldn’t help showing his
pride to carry the flag.

Hrant from Constantinople was holding the poster with Hrant Dink’s
picture. "It is already 100 days that Hrant Dink was killed: we are
here to commemorate his death, too. As Armenians we will not feel
secure in Constantinople, until the criminals are punished. A terrible
atmosphere is reigning in Polis," he told "A1+".

‘Dink’s assassination comes to prove that there is a great splitting
in Turkey. There is a great struggle for one’s identity. We hope sooner
or later this struggle will make Turkey reflect upon its sins and they
will truly try to receive absolution.’ Kiro Manoyan informed "A1+".

The Reverend Ter-Hakob Khachatryan explained the essence of the
torch-marches.’ This is an initiative to inform the historical
events and commemorate and speak about their responsibility towards
Fatherland.’

Karla Karapetyan, director of the famous movie "Screamers" announced,
"This is not an action only for the sake of Armenians but also that
of the whole world. Darfur is still suffering genocide."

To mention, the inspired and enthusiastic youngsters stayed at
"Tsitsernakaberd" till 1:00 a.m.

Many of them were even willing to spend the night as guards of honor.

Armenians Prefer Kocharyan As President – Presidential Aide

ARMENIANS PREFER KOCHARYAN AS PRESIDENT – PRESIDENTIAL AIDE

Arminfo
20 Apr 07

Yerevan, 20 April: The outcome of the forthcoming 2008 presidential
election in Armenia largely depends on the statement of Armenian
President Robert Kocharyan about whom he prefers to see in the post
after himself, the Armenian president’s aide on national security
Garnik Isagulyan said at a news conference in the National Press
Club today.

Isagulyan stressed that the results of sociological surveys carried out
by his centre for strategic research show that although Armenians know
that Kocharyan does not have the right to nominate his candidacy for a
third presidential term, his personal rating is still higher than that
of all other politicians put together. This is also explained by the
personal qualities of the incumbent head of state, his biography and
the fact that people cannot but value the continuous economic growth,
stability and peace. Because of this the word of the president is
very substantial in society, Isagulyan stressed and noted that even
after Kocharyan leaves the post of president, he will most likely
remain in major politics.

Isagulyan also stressed that his personal view is that the most worthy
candidate to the post of Armenian president after Robert Kocharyan
is Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan.

SLAIN EVANGELISTS WERE TORTURED, SAYS TURKISH DOCTOR

DEMONSTRATION: People lay carnations at the entrance of the Zirve
publishing house in Malatya April 19 where three Protestants were
tortured for three hours before being murdered.

(REUTERS)

MALATYA, Turkey — Three Protestants murdered at a Christian publishing
house in Malatya, Turkey, were tortured for three hours before their
assailants slit their throats, a press report said Friday, quoting
one of the doctors involved in the grisly case.

Dr. Murat Ugras, a spokesman for the Turgut Ozal Medical center, told
the daily Hurriyet of hospital surgeons’ fruitless efforts to save
Ugur Yuksel, one of the three victims of the massacre at the Zirve
(summit) publishing house, which distributed Christian literature.

"He had scores of knife cuts on his thighs, his testicles, his rectum,
and his back," Ugras said. "His fingers were sliced to the bone.

"It is obvious that these wounds had been inflicted to torture him,"
he said.

The two others who were killed, Necati Aydin, pastor of Malatya’s tiny
Protestant community, and German Tilmann Geske, a Malatya resident
with his wife and three children since 2003, were also tortured,
press reports said.

The abuse lasted for three hours as the five men detained at the crime
scene interrogated the three on their missionary activities, they said.

"We tied their hands and feet and later gagged them," the mass daily
Sabah quoted one of the suspects as telling police. "Emre slit
their throats," said the youth, who was not named, referring to
Emre Gunaydin, the alleged leader of the gang, who is at the same
hospital in serious condition after jumping out of the publishers’
third floor office in a bid to flee police.

Gunaydin, 19, had reportedly made several visits beforehand to the
publishing house to gain the confidence of the people working there,
newspapers said.

The daily Radikal said that the German was the first to die and the
two Turks were slaughtered only when police arrived at the door after
receiving a call from a member of the Protestant community who grew
suspicious when he found the office door locked.

Proselytizing is not banned in Muslim, secular Turkey, but is generally
viewed with suspicion.

Newspapers linked the Malatya massacre to other recent attacks against
minorities in Turkey, including the murder last year in Trabzon
of Italian Catholic priest Andrea Santoro and the assassination in
Istanbul in January of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink.

The reports said that the killers were believed to be members of a cell
of nationalist-Islamist fanatics recently set up in Malatya and similar
to one based in Trabzon that has been blamed for the Dink murder.

Newspapers also said that three of the five main suspects – police
have detained 10 people in all – were taken into custody two days
before the killings for shooting air guns in an empty lot, but were
released after paying a fine.

Geske’s wife Suzanna, meanwhile, told a television channel that she
"forgives" her husband’s killers and that she intends to stay on in
Malatya, where her husband will be buried.

The killings shocked Turkey and were strongly condemned by the
international community, prompting Germany, which holds the rotating
presidency of the European Union Turkey is seeking to join, to call
on Ankara to take greater measures to protect religious freedoms.
